  1. If your preference is playing on the neck pick up, then unless you plan to tickle something located nearer the bridge you will favour a bass with 1 pick up around that spot. Having something by the bridge can be useful be it a single coil or a dual coil even if you don’t dial it in as a place to rest a playing hand, still giving variation of tone. Whether you stick or twist you can always change pick ups (depending on the date of the model esp with the BB range) to give you a different sound in a familiar shell
  2. I am not most folk. Check the definition of what a humbucker is and what the ‘P’ pick up is and why it was developed moving from the original Single coil 51 type P bass. If the above is correct, then the original statement holds water unless I have the make up of the bridge pick up incorrect, but you will know more than me on that.
  3. Two Notes LeBass Hartke VXL 1st gen Tech21 DP3X Tech21 SH1 Barefaced Machinist Tech21 PSA 2.0 (but this may be overkill!)
  4. With that swap you are not swapping humbuckers, you are swapping a Humbucker in the bridge position. A split coil is still a humbucker by definition. Aside from other build features, try and source measurements as to where the pick ups are located in reference to the neck and the bridge and how each pick up is wound. You can also look at pot and capacitor information - this will give you the info you need as to how they will tonally differ and what suits you - then it comes down to looks and feel
  5. Nice work buddy - glad I persuaded you to stick with that beast of a bass!!
  6. You’ll forget the costs if you play it and it fits like a glove. my build costs have varied as some parts I wanted were rare to come up second hand so I had to bite the bullet. look forward to pics
  7. Across stains, nitro, fillers etc I have used various makes My fave is Rothko and Frost for quality, the others are not bad, R&F just nip it
  8. The ADAM though does look interesting and things like the dual knob functions is pretty sick manufacturing
  9. I must add BTW it’s nothing against DG, they do fine products and are a great company with good customer service. We are talking a minor difference, and maybe I am getting super sensitive but was discussing this with another player, and once I heard it, I couldn’t un-hear it. The DP3X is a pedal I unashamedly love, and I love Tech21 gear. IMHO the slight difference is that Tech21 produce gear according a high level musicians specs and wants, like dUg, Geddy, Steve Harris etc. DG and Doug is primarily an awesome engineer and scientist who plays bass very well and this engineers a product. Its a very subtle difference but for me I think gives this slight difference, yes guys like Nolly and Jon are on board now, but it’s sort of part of the DNA.
  10. @Wolverinebass will be far more eloquent than me at explaining stuff, but so far as DG dirt goes I have always felt that something about it makes it ever so slightly separate from the core sound - the distortion is never parallel to it - it seems separate, and not is a good way, it’s like your girlfriends/boyfriends mate who is there, but not part of the action
  11. Yep as above - really sand it bare - I often sand up past even 600 - or higher until I get bored
  12. As ever far more eloquent than me - I was furiously typing whilst having a sleepy breakfast before being late for work! Looks like all eventualities will be covered for you
  13. Agreed with the above, if you like the look of the wood stain use something like Tru-Oil. I used Gun Oil (for wooden gun butts) which is essentially the same thing and is on Amazon. First 2-3 coats I used it diluted with mineral spirits (white spirit) and used a fine sand great wet sandpaper piece to help push it into the cracks of the wood - you can probably get about 3 coats done in a day adding in drying time. After that I used fingers to push it in and depending on how Matt or shiny you want it will depend on how many coats you do. I have used nitro spray cans over stained wood, but that was because I wanted to relic the finish back to reveal ‘aged’ wood. If the body you are using is an open pore one like Ash you can consider a grain filler and there are tinted ones available. Go to Rothko and Frost (Dartfords) and IMHO they have the best finish stuff available across the board, they are lovely to talk to as well - you’ll find a combo of things you’ll like

I am as guilty as anyone, but I reckon guys/gals it is time to seriously bury most of the stuff. Let’s see what this unit does, what people like and don’t like of its sonic performance and intuitiveness and interaction with other bits of equipment and any instruments. We can also see if a V2 ones out and then compare whenever that is. I just put my tree up - time for a bit of xmas cheer!

So........ I’ve read every post! We’ve covered design of pedal, graphics and box - benefits of amps or no amps, digital vs analogue, the future and the past, personal issues, and I got offered out for a fight - started training only to find out it was in jest, and TB was slated as those that may look upon there. Some are for, some are against, smattered amongst the comments are tongue in cheek ones and pointed ones, even positive ones can have perceivable or actual negative vibes to it. What are we left with............ A bloody good pedal capable of a number of different sounds that’s easy to dial in, but can still be learnt over time to tweak to what is required to match what someone would want. The fuzz can get synth like, the OD does an OD and can be warm and subtle to overt, and clean can be blended into it to retain girth and clarity. Some will like, some will love, I doubt it can be hated. Level of love will decide whether it replaces existing pedals, people new to dirt/fuzz pedals will get a good pedal to cover ground for them. There you go.

Cheque comment is tongue in cheek and should be read that way. All i am saying is the box actually isn’t that bad IMHO - there are better and worse box products out there, but it defo ensures it arrives safely with delivery peoples occasional habit of chucking stuff around.

Exactly this as explained by Alex in the video, staggered to make it easy for single on off, but close enough for most feet to turn both on together in a single push without having to angle your foot to achieve this

  20. Me either! I’ve imported from US before, if it’s worth it, it’s worth it, even with duties(whatever they may be) it’s a Hellah deal on the new price for something in great condition. Just don’t want someone to think it’s impossible to prevent a sale for you!
  21. Loads of clever design features there, looks a smart bass, but I am not sure why it can’t be posted after 16th December, pretty sure ours and a worldwide postal service will still be running

Obviously - why did he not just electronically transfer the money? (Wire can hurt you right?) Those cheques give nasty paper cuts, don’t get me started if it’s one of those massive ones, plus you’d have to queue to get into the bank to cash it - disaster, I would refuse the money all day long
