Darkglass / NeuralDSP moving into hardware???? UPDATE: The Quad Cortex
Cuzzie replied to fretmeister's topic in Effects
Anyone know what they have captured on the Tech21 PSA they have listed under bass preamps There are 10 bass amps and 40 guitar ones -
I don’t see any denigration or elitist ideologies here about any context of use, but you could also argue this is precisely why insistence on sound samples and settings is also not massively relevant as they will be made for a particular context which will be different to someone else’s. what can be definitely said is that bass for the vast and overwhelming majority of situations will not be a solo instrument, if used alone it is likely to be layered, or played/recorded with other stuff - hence, how does it sound in the mix
-
Yup even if the drums are programmed or all instruments synthesised they will be a trade off
-
Away with you and your outlandish contextual theories
-
I get what you are saying about this - it’s about using it in context - essentially even if recording at home and messing around being creative pedals are unlikely to be used in isolation, there will be other instruments used to create a tune/soundscape of some description-that I think is what you are talking about

From the Sandy Insta Nice custom bass!

I think you may be correct there, what a great lockdown present tho! I know that when I play what sounds pleasing to the ear on my own, is not necessarily the correct sound when playing with other band members-I have sort of trained my ears to what sounds wrong in isolation, but sounds right with the band. For home practice I use the distorted sound to check on technique for muting, harmonics etc which are magnified, or I either have a dialled in sound I know I will change back, or play boringly clean just to get the groove. Dont get anything until you have played together, and believe me I love buying stuff and encouraging others to buy stuff. Also it will sound different as you have been pumping a jazz bass, now you have this awesome P bass to adjust sonically to You mention a flat EQ on the amp, I would toy with that first, and when all options are exhausted from the current lot, then hit up something else, it’s a great compressor as well.

The more and more I think about this, and see your set up, the Puma is a stellar amp and EQ to give you a really full clean sound and that SC is such a good clear cab, it will accurately replicate what you pop through. I would use the compressor only and the amp to start with, have the guitars dirty as hell - you are already drop tuned so it will sound heavier, you could drop down another half a step and that will make it sound fuller. Get that full clean bass really pumping, you won’t need a filter or octave except for the odd circumstance, and then dial in the dirt you have gradually, and you may have to add some treble for bite. that’s what I would do before adding anything
-
By the way - the bass, amp and cab are all awesome
-
OK,i get where you are at. IMHO i have to say that the VMT is a little flubby and lacks the clarity you seek i am afraid, and i have tried it with boosts, stacking with a B7K, other pre-amps etc. I am not saying it is a bad pedal, but I don’t think it will ever give you that cut you want. It then depends on whether or not you are wedded to the DG sound - if you are then the AO or the X will be way better pedals for what you are after. If you are open to other brands there is a massive amount to choice from, but it sounds like you want a tight low end and almost a cross over looking to poke through - for this i would go Tech21 DP3X every time, and it dispenses with most of that board!

When you say it does not ‘do’ the heavy stuff, what do you mean? Some of the heaviest bands have the cleanest of bass signals underpinning everything. When you play together, what is missing? Often it is better to record it and take a step back and listen as well as tinker in the moment. It could be something as simple as you are getting lost with the kick drum instead of it supporting you, or playing notes in a different patterN to what you are already with the drums. What are the guitars doing? HUmbuckers, single coils, distortion etc. What sonic space are they hitting? I see your blend is favouring the pedal sound as opposed to the clean sound, that could be dialled back, add a bit more drive and open the tone up to just poke through. How fresh are your strings and which ones? It may be for what you are playing you need zingy strings to twang through You may not need any change or additional pedals at all.

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Cuzzie replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Exactly the point I was trying to make - a decent parallel is that we have Major incident plans in all the hospitals I work in for explosions, chemical, pile ups, car/plane/train crash etc. They are practiced and rehearsed, updated etc. There were new processes popped in place for dealing with C-19, going to theatre, intubation for, transporting them around - policies were made and practiced and banked. Its what should be done -

It’s barmy to suggest the ‘half empty brigade’ want anything other than a successful vaccine, with a successful roll out programme safely and effectively delivered. I would say an unnecessary ‘poke/jibe’ at people, some of which work in the system, some of which may have put themselves on the trial to help out. Just out of interest, and not to point fingers or demonise anyone, as people have choice but @Al Krow, have you volunteered to be trained, or did you sign up for the vaccine trial? There should be a playbook, pandemics and national disasters are not new phenomenon, admittedly there will have to be tweaks for individual cases. The nation can be resilient, plucky etc. but unfortunately if the people in charge of the infrastructure to mobilise this are not always on point, and should be held accountable, which is all we are saying. We all want the same thing -

Only peace i get in my house -
Oh and I pre-stained the body wood of the whole guitar so it would look aged as it pokes through and wherever else it chips off as time goes by
-
So I have a close up of the bubble, but also the rest of the back - where you see the bass finish slightly darker is not a light trick, it’s where I used the blowtorch to make it uneven Logically, you can take it to a greater degree depending on how long you burn, I wanted a less obvious look have done a tiger scorch before

I think I misread - it’s only Crass if they do not separate flu from covid. Separation accurately is key to know rates, how they behave, mortality, morbidity, hospital burden, length of stay, ages etc. -

Crass to say the least -
Thanks! Its great fun - The natural P bass looked very bland before I flamed the lines, just enough to bring something out and Gun oil popped the rest. The jazz bass started life like this Then this after flaming Being swamp ash it really popped - the stain was first with Tea and then wire wool soaked in vinegar. The jag started life as this before going through various stains, bit of a burn and then a gun oil seal Get the torch out - if it’s too much, you can buff/sand it back. You can use the torch to create relic stuff on a nitro finished bass The ‘bubble’ effect on the belly cut was using a torch till the paint blistered, bang it in the freezer for 20 mins - the bubbles then pop leaving the bass below unharmed. Just a few bits of trial and error from me if peeps want to try

@krispn have you actually coined a new term in Trumpian? Trumpishness? Trumposity?
