The alternative if it is so small and you have no template is to judiciously sand slowly. If you are sanding draw your line for uppermost, if you have a small enough straight edge pop that in the cavity to see where is not level, and you can cover the Non level bits in pencil so you know you have sanded enough when it’s gone. Free hand rout is always an option if you fancy

It’s a good point raised about what is Vintage So @Reggaebass your thread, your rules - what is Vintage? Is there a Super Vintage class and evening an über vintage?! Do we use human years or dog years?!
-
So 1 nights drinking for the band then? maybe a couple kebabs as well
-
Aye - that’s best - i never really find any demo nails what I do, but i try to educate myself on the feature set and hear as many parameters available as possible and then imagine within the range of what something does, will it get what I want. Often things will be derivatives of what is around, Fender tone stack, baxendall, certain power sections etc all have their own flavour, piece em together and finally see what extra the manufacturers may have put in or altered slightly and to get your recipe - it’s why the “ooo what’s your settings” doesn’t really hold water. I’d also wager most amps, especially decent ones will do most types of music if sensibly used

It’s a mid set one - warmed up but not end of the list when failing
-
Hmmmm is it like a mixture of the old tone stack where 2-10-2 is flat on the EQ and then play from there like the VXL pedal? If you haven’t started from flat may be a good time to reboot and your from there? if it’s anything like the VXL pedal there is a nice tone lurking

Do it - I was ‘nudged’ to be singist nil playing for a gig - Stone the crows, as an average singer it’s hard, but I would like to give it the balls with bass as well - can’t say I did it any favours - glad it wasn’t recorded
-
Honestly you won’t get the same result with that - minor adjustments are easier and neater with a well made template and router with the correct router bit
-
Whenever I am looking for precise information it seems logical to go straight to the horses mouth and go to the manufacturers website - clearly states the sizes are the same. 2nd/3rd Party websites Are always subject to error, also if They are running Imperial metric conversions as well - loads of room for error
-
Agreed all of the above - Firsch Forstner bit is best for drilling out, Axminster tools website will give you what you need, remember ball bearing needs to be at the top not the bottom. Its maybe overkill but I have a short and a long one. Use short first till it’s depth and then the long one. I use my mains router first and sometimes finish off with the handheld battery one for the finer adjustments

It’s on the list for me - this thread will make me save pop and crisps money for to one day buy

Pretty sure Cuddly Toy by roachford has a Status in it

Thanks for that, taking rose tints away I sort of suspected that. I am not sure if your Sandberg has any form of ageing but is there any comparison with ‘maturation’ of sound? Certainly my MarloweDK, which has 70s spacing @ped I think fits that, as have masterpieces I have played. Anyhow - back to Fenders, look forward to piccies

Drive sound is very very subjective as well - could be that you go for a relatively clean amp with enough power like a Peavey mini or mega or a Quilter bass block and pop a drive type pedal of your choice in front of it. If you are happy with your clean and it’s EQ then it’s easy to change around. Also look at the Genzler Magellan 800 - very nice musical drive channel. Remember the TE is hopefully the SW Bass bash in October which may give chance to play some stuff. Most importantly - Andy - I have heard you play, you’re a good player with a good tone-careful it’s not just lockdown jitters making things all squiffy - it could just be a little tweak is all that’s needed as opposed to wholesale changes
-
Andy - I have some stuff which may or may not fit the bill both amp and preamp - I’ll drop you a line and you can test it. Hope you are well

I have absolutely decided I love a P bass, and Geddy’s book is also a nice bit of porn. I’ve popped together some P themed basses that I love. I don’t own one and my birth year was in the stinky poo Fender boat anchor years. I did have a quick play on a vintage one, but I was too early in my bass journey to appreciate it, and furthest I can go back with any assuredness on the feel is the JV 83 P bass - 1 was ok, 1 was very very good, but for the guys who own a vintage one can you describe what it is about them compared to a really good modern one? Cheers
