Get proper ACS custom moulds with whatever Attenuation you want - at Least 15dB - and of your are singing this is good, maybe up to 20 if you are parked next to a loud drummer, About 17 should be fine. You only have 1 set of ears. So far as the amp goes, we can all throw a hundred suggestions at you, but draw up the list of wants and then trawl through the big makers out there and see what fits the bill. Once you have them, look at some maybe not on the normal big list, it’s far easier for folk on here to advise once you have a short list, other wise it gets unwieldy. Defo protect your ears, the cheap amazon ones will dampen all the sound and dynamics and not let you hear the mix

Match the power output to your cab Decide whether you want purely a clean tone or an amp with some form of drive circuit. Do you want one you can silent practice with a headphone out How do you want the DI to work Do you get Tone from pedals and need it amplified, or do you get it from the amp, or a combination. Whats your fave EQ, Fender tonestack, baxendall etc. How much EQ control do you want, especially selecting mid frequencies. How heavy and or big are you willing to go. What do your fave artists use. How important are the aesthetics Do you want to buy new or second hand This will automatically narrow it down

Yep done one the neck heel has to be shaved , but not the full depth almost made into a T Shape. the neck I had didn’t require me to deepen the neck pocket, but overlay a 34” scale neck and see how it fits in reference to the bridge - that will give you your answer

For me anyway, without doubt the Jazz neck is an absolute joy to play, slim and very fast - @fretmeister if I remember correctly have you played some Sandberg’s? I can’t remember if it’s there and or Barefaced we share common ground. If so It is approaching the MarloweDK skinny fast proportions type thing. If you like a jazz neck - this will satisfy your need

Not that one, but other Noll stuff, very good electronics, preamps tend to be on the slightly more aggressive side as compared to say Glockenklang, but still clear and clean

I would say get a proper router - unless there is an absolute minty one, don’t buy second hand, you just don’t know what some fool has done with motors etc and abusing it. I did go more expensive, but I felt it suited me and is pretty good for free hand routing as well, remember for any cordless you have to factor in batteries! Give it too much to do it spits out and jams tip for drilling depth - but of masking tape around the drill bit at the requisite depth if you don’t have a drill press with a depth limiter And it’s great fun!

Echo the dremel for done work and finishing only in hard to reach areas and I exclusively use it with the extension cord and a plugged in one. The Tacklife clone isn’t bad either. For routing - get a decent router. Same for templates or make the templates yourself. I cannot stress enough having just done a build the importance of decent bits. You can get big packs which are fine, but those Trend cutters as people mention with the bearing at the top, not the bottom are essential. For a router I did spend a bit extra and got the Bosch cordless one, but the Ergonomics of it as opposed to ‘normal’ ones suited me.

Nitro will dull, but you don’t always need to finish and buff nitro to a gloss - certainly I haven’t when doing nitro finishes. That colour is nicely done Mark around the neck pocket wouldn’t bother me, but I am less bothered about stuff like that. If you want to take some sheen off the neck finish just gently rub with some 0000 steel wool, that take the stickiness and shiny ness off and make it a better feel.

Echo the above, but so far as listening to songs, just keep going with it. If you only switched 1 week ago your ears are not tuned to hearing Basslines yet. Keep going, they will get there, then it will be a lightbulb moment when you now get the rhythm of a song and what forms the meat of it. welcome to BC

Already been in touch with Hölger about possibilities, hardware and electronics I am not worried about going exactly to script, I may even consider making my own neck, it’s the next stage I need to do in attempting bass building

Exactly - that for me is why the DK is king - it’s a big closer down in the 70s position and has a little extra bite. Passive, thinner profile neck - absolute joy. Picked up the body as it was, been on the look out for Sandberg parts (not common!) and at some point Will basically restore it to some form of 5 string either a replica of the Ken, or a Ken with my twist

Only asking because if someone has pulled off something looking genuinely the same, but that one is not liked then it puzzles me. In some respects for me it’s the same as for example a masterpiece painting, do you only like the original and not the copy or print if it’s a decent one? I understand completely not liking various finishes, I like a relic - hate the crap belt sander ones, but if it’s tastefully done.....

Of interest, is that all relics either from years of use or mimicking years of use?
