Paulownia is also known as princess or empress wood and has been used by other manufacturers I think G&L. Lightweight, strong, Eco friendly as very quick growing, mainly out East which is probably why most Companies don’t use it.

Not breaks but woods like Paulownia and Cedar May well mark more easily

Not sure it’s entirely correct to say Larry Graham invented the style. Its roots are laid in orchestral music technique Bartok Pizz where the strong payer essentially does the ‘pop’ by plucking the string and allowing it to snap back. I think the first recorded ‘slap’ was a guy called Steve Brown. Gypsy Jazz uses a slap technique and has done for some time. Turn of the 20th century Guys like Bill Johnson and Pops Foster are using it. This is of course all on upright DB. Move to Electric bass - yes LG is probably the first, then guys like Stanley Clarke adapt it, Bootsy etc. And it comes to today where it is ubiquitous on You tube and guitar shows everywhere

My MarloweDK with Sandberg pick ups do not have a sandberg logo on. Some of them will, normally the split coil. If buying second hand if it has Haussel pick ups they also tend not to have a logo as well. If you do see a second hand one and want the exact specs and the owner is unsure, then you can email Sandberg with the serial number and they will tell you what is what when it left the factory.

2 lots of own brand pick ups - standard and black label. For a vast generalisation standard are leaning more towards a vintage sound, black labels More punchy and hotter. Both very very good Plek’d at the factory, I have seen the machine in action - it’s cool if you are a geek like me. Great basses on their own or with pedals etc. In some ways of you like using pre amps in your amp or pedals the normal Sandbergs are very useful as they are not too hot to overload a signal

Very easy to do, you can a bubbling appearance that shatters also. Accelerate the cycle using a heat gun, then freeze. If you just want cracking heat but don’t let bubble, pop in the freezer for at least 20mins to get a decent effect
