  1. 5th video out, it’s finished and it looks pretty good actually
  2. Aye could be right, I don’t know if this guy on FB picked it up first hand or used, but it will in all likelihood sound how we played it - great in your hands, average in mine. i get what you say about the SL, but it was proper punchy, my spring roll fingers are mebbe a bit bassier
  3. Do you reckon Mr Crimson would approve.......going old school....
  4. Welcome and it looks great - we all hope our talents can grow into our fantastic basses
  5. @BankaiNo i do not think you are wrong and is inherent in the design of the Glockenklang pre-amp. Some call it ‘Sterile’ but i think that is wrong, it just requires you to see how it interacts with your kit. It is there to give the inherent push to what is the stock/base sound of the bass. If you have a good amp, it doesn’t need that push the on board pre-amp provides, it can just breathe the bass and come alive. If you rag it up front too much, it can become a wall of sound. It’s one of the reasons I don’t get on with super hot pick ups and mainly prefer passive bases aside from a few - i like to use a preamp of some description, too much pushes too much signal
  6. I was at the factory hanging out with Hölger and the gang, saw the whole operation first hand - it’s a class act. Stuff that was ready off the production line I got to play - pretty sure this was one of them, or one or two exactly like it. Also it’s where I played the first production Superlight bass, I suppose it could have been prototype/final product. I have to say I did tell him to make a short scale, cuzzie would have been a better name than Lionel, but it looks a cracking bass. @krispn also designed and named a new colour, but we are yet to see that - only a matter of time
  7. I played a couple of those Sandberg ones pictured - and yes they had that old school single coil/51 P thump, they were very cool
  8. It’s one of the reasons I haven’t bought a neck yet as it may not work, it’s all a little experiment-I May even consider giving it its own Jack output and do a stereo Billy sheehan vibe
  9. Absolutely no idea, it could be crap, could be just a low rumble to accentuate the sharpness of the jazz bridge pick up. One idea I had was to link it directly to the bridge pick up but changed my mind. Worse case I cut a hole in the pickguard, I am using a black one and raise it up - it’s a close enough colour to still look dark and sleek
  10. Evening, Well another frankenbuild for me. Always fancied a sneaky hidden pick up so..... Regular jazz body (unsure make and Wood- but standard Fender dimensions). Seymour Duncan AJJ-1 pick ups all wired standard vol/vol/tone. I am adding a Bassculture humbucker bar under the pickguard close to the neck. I want to experiment with some more deep sub type tones alongside the standard Jazz affair. I plan on simply wiring the bucker with a push/pull volume pot so it’s series/parallel. I’ll then send that straight to the output jack. Obviously drill a hole in the pick guard. Used a Noll one for this before, trying a CTS this time. Red Splodge is approximate knob placement (May change) and blue is sort of where the wires are going out into the original cavity rout and in. The output wire will be back out the long horizontal. Doing this to keep pick up wire length for any other fun if I don’t like. Awating pot and the plate so did this to pass the time and I wish I had a router - a Firsch Forstner bit and a dremel is fine, but takes ages! I’ll borrow a neck from another bass. when it’s wired if I like the sound I’ll get a black kickass bridge and ideally a Status jazz neck. I could use from another build for proof of concept. Bridge pick up output is 3.2, neck 4.2 and bucker 5.2 - so I hope it all matches. Nothing as adept as some of the other chaps here and their building skills but hopefully a fun mod, which suits what I hope to achieve sonically
  11. I am just about to pop something together which should be simple to use, yet active with distinct sounds and no EQ. Then I may do a FakeRay as well
  12. @mcnach you are completely right on what you say. As you have stated part of the stingray sound is the pick up and the pre amp, but let’s say you played your pre-amp flat - you may as well go full passive as you are not using it aside from some signal boost. What would be nice is a ‘Ray’ pick up with a fixed pre-amp - so still active, but using the most common settings like the old Seymour Duncan APB-1 pick ups, add a normal tone knob to it and hey presto. Come to think of it aside from just not touching the knobs, you could probably rout a bass and hide them at the desired setting inside. (And yes I am aware this is probably overkill and pointless, but I prefer fewer twiddle knobs)
  13. You can get a lightning to 3.5mm jack cable which would suffice
  14. LTD and Schecter are more than solid great options
  15. Haussel pick ups would only be by specialist request on building this, stock passives would be Sandberg in house pick ups which are also very good Information would be available from Sandberg giving the serial number or looking underneath them.
  16. Slight cable snob I am afraid - no point in maxing whatever you’re budget is on a bass and skimping on a cheap cable, it would be like putting push bike tyres on car. Lava, PJB, Canare are what I use - shop around on GAK, guitarguitar, Richtone etc. There are often deals to be had
  17. The above is a great bass
  18. Hartke HD range is cheap and honest as well New Peavey combos are also very good
  19. Out of those 2 I would go squier or this is a cracking wee bass form a cracking seller
  20. He’s just jealous as us Manc’s know that on the 7th day God created Man-chester
  21. The biggest thing is to play the bass if you can before buying. Doesnt matter if it’s made by Dave down the road or Fender or whoever-if it feels right, it’s a good price in your range then go for it. No matter what the name or looks of it does not feel right to play or sound like you want you will always fight it and not be happy
  22. Panther is a vastly underrated bass, beautiful skill and craftsmanship and super thin contoured body - the sound really surprised me. Joy to listen to and play
  23. Black label pick ups are glorious, great punch and precision to them
