  1. Dave is great, fantastic artist @Lozz196 you have put it exactly right, rap when done right can be exactly like punk in its principles. Without getting too heavy, you go back to the origins and using samples etc. To make beats, guys like grandmaster flash, it’s a protest to make music. They could not afford real instruments, so broke down beats and samples. NWA and their song F the police, all about brutality and inequality. Dave is relevant, these problems are out there, it’s not that all people are bad, but you probably don’t realise because I would wager most people on here are moderate, and see no problems amongst people of different cultures and races. Anyway, enough heavy stuff. Great performance, good to see british rap/grime getting more to the front
  2. @51m0n is way more erudite than me, but my simplistic view is that Compression is a spectrum where at the extreme end (as in super very fast) it becomes a limiter. The reverse journey is not applicable so a pure limiter (one that only deals in super fast ratios) is not a compressor. With compression there is a volume adjustment of the signal to allow an evenness to the sound, done well, the dynamics are not harmed, compressed heavily the sound become squashed like pressing a flower in a book. Limiter is your brick wall, or Gandalf - ‘You shall not pass!’ You set a dB limit and it doesn’t let anything louder than that past it, but it does not adjust the volume of anything beneath it. I suppose you could think of a heavy handed drummer who likes to really smash the snare on occasion, limiting its volume of sound to the rest of it’s surroundings allows expression and the snare however it’s set up to ring true, rather than a squished snare sound which may not be pleasing to the ear. They can then bash away to their hearts content. You can vary where your wall is, but it’s different to compression as it’s stopping sound rather bringing sound gently into line, but as said before it’s the far end of the one way street spectrum, limiting is not back compatible. Compression is coercion and negotiation, Limiting is a barricade. Its a simplistic view, happy to be called wrong, or very wrong if I am so.
  3. Yeah mine was a second hand not long ago, other expenses came up. We would look the nuts
  4. Me 3 Nearly got one, but wasn’t to be
  5. @mikel I dunno, I reckon you may need to tell us, you only mentioned it twice
  6. Fortunately @PJ-Bassist and @Reggaebass have covered some of my big big influences in RATM and Bob, so I am going for. Kings X - so much Rock and grunge etc has comes from their influence without them hitting the heights, as well as bass and guitar tone for days Boney M - Guilty pleasure (just like @51m0n) but Night Flight to Venus is a stand out album, they are pop and disco and showmanship in a nutshell - love them. Muddy Waters/Mississippi John Hurt - you cant argue with those boys DJ Premier - this is a wildcard as he is one of the foremost producers out there and not just hip hop, but his beats were always on point. Only 3 is very very hard
  7. Can’t disagree, but if you know what sound works for you solo’d in a band, then it still gives some info. Sometimes something which sounds horrible solo’d is the sound you need
  8. I always advocate spending time with a pedal, but with a half decent review it should give you a ball park and then if you know your own scope and likes then you can glean a lot from what it could potentially do for you. I have personally played around with a few from each of the mentioned companies range - for me Tech21 every time, it’s not to say DG is poop
  9. These are 3 that I popped together myself. Lannister (Goldilox) being a complete blank and finished by me (does have a tone knob now). Jazzenbackus routed etc. By me. Couple more friends joined the party
  10. You are not alone, I much prefer originals. If playing covers, I would mash up and change around, but it’s more of a performance practice thing. Picking and studying the right songs and seeing what others do helps with your own IMO
  11. Pat on the back for that
  12. Nice, was that off the Hoof?
  13. If I was a betting man I’d place a steak on you taking offence across a field of comments
  14. I had a suspicion you would take the Highland on this being a Jersey Royal disgrace. You have some guts to De-Liver jokes like that
  15. But you yourself have semi-skimmed the issue.....
  16. I knew you could be catty, but I didn’t know what an old cow you could be
  17. I am massively favouring my P’s at the moment that is until the next build! Looks great and a great combo - you could leave it no knobs?!
  18. I did a finish where I diluted the gun oil with spirits, and wet sanded it in for a few goes and then used the patented rub in with fingers method, gently sanding with high grit paper and rubbing off with a non lint cloth between coats And doing the same till I got the finish I wanted. Started with a blank, bit of stain and rub ‘n’ buff paste and oil ended up with what you see. same for the neck (aside from rub n buff) to pop the grain. i had done a high grit sand before, I think up to about 1500
  19. I had that up yesterday and forgot to click submit! here is the Jazz one as well
  20. It’s a good song, I like how he has matured, so long as you are not a complete tool and don’t hurt people along the way of your journey, the start matters not one bit
  21. Yep used them, some good ones out there, definitely useful for a variety of goals, worth a look
  22. You have missed nothing. If you want your cab sound and it’s going through a P.A. - mic it and send it. If you want any of the listed cab sounds on IR’s - straight to P.A. You can even take a DI out the effects and have one cab sound out through PA and your own cab sound through whatever you are using as a monitor. Loads of options at your finger tips, just needs a little exploration
  23. It’s in the manual how to load IR’s and yes it can, just a little tinkering and it’s there
  24. I think it’s an amazing concept and really liked the boards, I looked a lot into them, but ended up being stingy and making my own in the end. I would love one though
  25. I seen them and loved the concept and nearly bit, fiendishly expensive tho
