1. Yeah it does but it's changing all the time, I'm only sending one box at the moment to Janek and the other box when full will go direct to Africa. But I'm happy to give as I don't change strings very often these days it's good to be involved. Also speaking to Royal Mail as they do some work where they will cover some/all of the postage for charities of this nature. But I'm more than happy to cover shipping them wherever Janek wants them, so don't worry about sending them to me as it's evolving and it's more and more likely I'll be shipping directly to the people in need. Cheers
2.
I've never played in front of anyone (and don't intend to!) but can bring along my 1960s VOX Clubman & Bassmaster, Burns Sonic, WEM Sapphire for a bit of novelty value against all of the exotica on view! Anyone is welcome to play them. Just let me know if it's a good idea and i'll bring them.
I'd love to play everything you just listed
3.
Now that's what I call dedication! Fantastic - it'll be really good to see you there...
Well no one runs any good bass bash's in the NW (I've tried to do a few, no one ever turned up) So it's worth the travel and be nice for people to try more Matamp gear out as it can be a trek for you guys to get to the factory. Me and Jack will have the loud bits covered
4. Put me down for this, if I can get a lift down then I'll bring the following Rickenbacker 4003, Overwater 5 string, 1970s Ampeg B-15, Custom Matamp GT200 MK2, Matamp 8x10, the pedalboard If I can't get a lift I'll come on the train and it'll be the following Rickenbacker 4003, Overwater 5 string, the pedalboard Cheers
5. Weight on this is roughly 10.6lbs from what I can tell on my bathroom scales. It gets considerably heavier in the ata flightcase
6. Even more pics

8. Weight is about 10.5lbs, I only have a scale with a needle and it weighs me very accurately but obviously allow for some variance. More pics
9. Yeah, cutting it down to 3, 2 of which are mainstays and 1 that will probably end up being the inrotation fun bass, currently a Pawn Shop mustang, still on the hunt for the perfect hollowbody.
10. I have up for sale my beautiful (and mostly unused by me) Overwater fretless, I bought this last year from a great guy who had basically kept it under his bed for the past 10-15 years, as such the fretboard has very little wear and the bass is in great condition, it's got some wear but I've tried to show these as best as possible in the pics. Basically I bought it because I love this shape and since I've had so many changes in my life that I haven't touched it really since getting it (never played fretless before) I have no need for it in my music projects, etc etc. It has a figured trans blue top and then you can see the finished wood on the back in a brown, I believe it's mahogany neck thru. The pickup covers are wood or wood effect (if it's wood effect it's a really damn good effect). The interesting point of this bass is it only features an xlr out and has a filter based preamp that is original to the bass but I've never really come across in an Overwater before, as there is no jack there is a small flick switch which serves as a an off switch for the bass so your batteries don't constantly die, I will include a suitable xlr to jack cable with the sale of the bass. It's the blue one on the left (though the brown/tabacco burst one on the right is also for sale) So in getting it, it's been professionally setup with a set of Overwater Light guage stainless steel rounds (mwah for days) the action is really really low, it's just amazing to play. I've added a Schaller style Hipshot de-tuner (though original tuner will be included) As this didn't come with a case and I had two for my other Overwater original (also for sale) so this comes with either a fitted Aluminium ATA case or an original late 70's leather covered Overwater hardcase (the other bass has the same option so it will be very much a first come, first serve) Pics below (these are from when I bought it but the bass is in the same condition only as stated with the hipshot added) Not looking for any trades at the moment, cheers
11. My number 2 bass for many years, it's been taken to a lot of gigs but not used unless I broke a string or just fancied a change. It's an absolutely lovely bass, diamond inlays, binding up the neck, neck thru mahogany. 2 custom Bill Lawrence Pickups, I had the bass rewired professionally when I first got it as stock these come passive, master volume, front volume, rear volume, master tone. I had it change to front volume, rear volume, front tone, rear tone. Additionally I had a push pull put on the first volume knob so you could coil split the front pickup. It was only recently when having it setup by another tech that I learned the reason we never did the same on the rear pickup is one coil isn't working, now I've never noticed because the bass sounds so big and full. I've toyed with getting a replacement but end of the day there isn't really a proper replacement for a handwound 70's bill lawrence pickup so I've left it, it sounds so good as it is but this is why the bass is so low priced considering it's rarity. There is actually a replacement available but the company is only Bill Lawrence in name and he's had nothing to do with them for such a long time. It's the brown/tabacco burst one on the right (though the blue one on the left is also for sale) I'll get some more pictures tonight So it's been professionally setup with a set of Overwater standard guage stainless steel rounds, the neck is nice and straight, I had the truss rod nut replaced recently as the last one had been stripped over the years so there is now plenty of adjustment left in the neck (please note there is no issue with the neck, truss rod, I just had the bit you put an allen key in replaced as it was a bit worn). I've added a Schaller style Hipshot de-tuner (though original tuner will be included) As this didn't come with a case and I had two for my other Overwater original (also for sale) so this comes with either a fitted Aluminium ATA case or an original late 70's leather covered Overwater hardcase (the other bass has the same option so it will be very much a first come, first serve) This is one of Chris May's early basses a real rarity and going for an absolute bargain. Not looking for any trades at the moment
12. Obviously we greatly appreciate all the donations but I have to make special mention to Overwater Basses when these arrived this morning.
13. My new amp £8.50 per watt, very boutique me
14. Sold quicker than when I had
15.
Yeah you had a rickenbacker and a ampeg b15. your tone was great. that was with the Twilight Sad.
Now I play his B-15 with my Rickenbacker Dave, you will love this very very much, if I was doing more I'd have jumped at it.
16. Awesome I'll book my train ticket for August to come try it I had a chat with Clarky recently as whilst as you know I'm no DB player the Ampeg Baby bass is on my list of things to own (think it comes from living in Venezuela) Do you think this would be the sort of thing that would suit me if I wanted to dabble in DB, I believe they aren't that pricey and the size and weight makes them a bit more suitable for my modern city flat living Thanks for the write up.
17. Loudest 120w I ever heard, glad it's sounding the business for you, now you just have the imagine the 200w version on top of an 8x10 doing pub rock
18.
I have three full sets I can send. Does it matter that they're not in the right packaging and I don't know what brand they are?
Yeah not a problem
19.
When we say 'digital modelling' what sort of ear are we talking? I only ask cos I watched the rig rundown for Billy Corgan's stuff recently and he has loads of old amps digitally recreated for him to use live, and wondered what stuff like this is more widely commercially available without having the income of Bily Corgan? I'm all for it in theory, but when I've played with the little things like a POD or a sansamp, it's not quite done it for me, but it is something of consider if I found the right kit...
i tried running a Pod into a 400w valve power amp and it still didn't do it for me You'll never get that heft of a proper valve amp with a simulator but same goes with all these small hybrid heads that are all the rage. Now simulators can get everything they do and more.
20.
I use studio headphones and my little studio monitors to create patches, almost lab conditions. Had no problems geting levels right. I always eq & level test and tweak with the bands' music playing. Had no problems with that so far.
My only comment would be that live is far from lab conditions, don't get me wrong I'm all for what you're doing, I ran my pedalboard for years where that was my tone and the amp didn't matter and I would send this to the front of house and just use whatever piece of crap they had available on stage. I found it much more satisfactory to have an amp, but I was rocking a 200w valve head and 8x10 and have transport for such a rig through friends who tour manage (taxi'd around for a minimal fee) but as I don't drive I have often considered a rig like this and actually went as far as working it through with an Ipad which saved even more space as I carry the Ipad everywhere (obviously this approach is easier and cheaper if you already have an Ipad) and I have to say with apps like Amplitube and Jamup the sound quality (imho) is every bit that of a Pod. The monitoring here is key really, if you can manage with wired IEM go that route and get a decent molded set, then down the line look to change this element to wireless, that way you can always hear yourself and if the PA can't take the bass, someone somewhere at the gig will have something you can use.
21. I would suggest a happy medium of a POD and then something like a Berg IP cab or powered cab. You will need to be trying your patches out with something like this as you'll find the difference between setting them at home and then using them live to be massive and you'll likely have volume jumps all over the place.
22. Largely the assumption that there is going to be a decent PA there, hell a PA. I have in the past done IEM only gigs, as long as you've got In Ear Monitors you can bring just a DI box, because the risk to yourself not being able to hear yourself is reduced and then you can argue like many young musicians do, well this is all my parents could buy me for Christmas, it's your job to make it louder Its certainly something I've considered in the past, you can get some seriously killer tones out of the POD
