Oh yes, indeedy. I wish I could unlearn everything and go back to the time when a good song just overwhelmed me in its totality. TBH, I'd give up playing, just to get that back. .
Would you really go that far? Although I do think there is something to be missed, being a part of music kind of makes up for it, also you can still appreciate music in a different way, when you can tell the genius thats gone into a song, even if it does turn you into a bit of a music snob

Before I picked up a bass at about 14, a song was a "whole" it was one unit and I never even considered picking it into separate parts, the song was either good, or it sucked, there was never, "that song sucked...apart from the awesome bass line". Now I mainly respond to a nice chord progression/bass line or rhythm in general, and can never listen to lyrics, can't even tell what singers are saying half the time, and don't really care as long as they're in tune. Never ever been a fan of the singer songwriter stuff. Although i'm infinitely glad I picked up a bass, I wonder if i've lost a certain innocence of being able to just listen to a song, without thinking about how its been made, and reducing it to its component parts and devices?

Is being in a full-time band compatible with family life?
I agree, BUT there are exceptions if your good lady is some kind of super woman who doesn't mind you taking the piss a bit!
Or if your good lady happens to be a sound engineer or tech! -
Hello Up for sale is my Squier VMJ Fretless. I'm sure you know all about it, but I can confirm its an excellent bass for the money! It's in excellent condition, it has a very small amount of string marking on the fretboard (currently strung with roundwounds) but this is no where near affecting the playability! I brought it a year ago from one of our own, selling because it never leaves the house! i'm looking for £170 collection only as I have nothing to post it in! Based in Brighton, viewings/try outs welcome!

I own a squier VMJ fretless and an American deluxe P. The American feels and sounds a lot better imo and the price was justified second hand compared to the squier. But I couldn't believe how bad the pots on it where, they were wonky and one was totally shot and had to be replaced. The squier is a great bass, but doesn't feel as solid to play, although it's not far behind. Also, compared to the Squier P I got 10 years ago when I started playing, the VM is a dream! Looking back, my old squier was the biggest piece of junk i have ever laid hands on bass wise. How do CIJ and the older 90's made in Japan Fenders hold up against the American models? Ive never had the chance to play one.

American Deluxe P - Bass . How close to an AM , Standard sound ??
jay replied to mike 110's topic in Bass Guitars
Hi Mike I have an American Deluxe P, its a 2007 model and is one of the last with the humbucker(double jazz pickup) on the bridge. I can tell you they are great basses! You can get almost any tone out of it. As for the classic P sound, I would say it is 90-95% there, at least in comparison to a modern American P. It's kind of like a suped up P bass, it has a bit more punch. If you want that P sound, and nothing else, get a standard P bass and maybe save yourself a few quid. If you value the variety I would go for the deluxe! Good luck -
Alright, "funkiest" was an exaggeration! But I like his style.

I just set mine all flat and gain to taste. I would suggest and active preamp or an eq pedal to craft a decent sound!

Haha, thanks for the advice/butt kicking. I put in a good shift today and kept GASing to a minimum! Don't know how many jobs my particular degree is going to get me, but one is better than none i guess.
Pathetic! If you come here and said that all your studying time was being taken over by writing songs, rehearsing, gigging and recording with some fantastic band then I could understand - I've been there. But if it's all about lusting after some new gear then I have no sympathy what so ever.
I'ts not just the gear, its that combined with the day dreaming about about all the projects I have lined up!
