1. You could probably work Don't Look Any Further by Dennis Edwards into that - knock it down to G#m C#m D#m
2.
TBF it was only £1500 but Jens got Ken Smith to calculate the postage
3. Not familiar with Stellah but the Shine/Harley Benton ones are surprisingly good for the money and are about £90 when they come up for sale. Probably come from the same factory! The one i had was structurally faultless and was ripe for modding if you wanted to improve the electrics. This kind of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shine-Extreme-6-String-Bass-Black-/200657353629?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2eb81c3b9d I think the Ibanez and Yamaha 6ers are great starting points, i'd be keeping an eye on this one if i were you: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-SR886-6-string-bass-/220864622182?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item336c8eae66
4. I have these going spare but before you ask for them be aware that two of them don't come with serials. F.E.A.R. is disc only and arrived in another game case i bought off eBay. The seller didn't want it back and i already have my own copy so it's yours if you want it. Either use your own product key from a damaged disc or use one of those naughty generators. Left4Dead came to me used but the seller didn't realise the key was single-user only and tied to a Steam account which is already in use. It comes with the case but unless you already own your own serial number it's useless. Would be handy if you purchased it online but don't want the 4-5gb download. Unlike a lot of Steam games the disc actually contains the game so it could save you a bit of time or hd space. Sega Bass Fishing is CD only, no case but works perfectly. It's the Explosiv version so is fine with XP and i would imagine Win7 too Anyway, they're free if they're any use, don't wanna split as both discs will be sent in the one case. They're great for laptops and better netbooks as they look good but have meagre requirements.
5. Would be ace with leather patches on the forearm contour - it'd be a Geography teacher's wet dream!
6.
Eye of the beholder, and all that. ... and looks like it's been chucked around a few rehearsal studios by someone wearing gloves made of sandpaper.
Hmmm, i agree. Some of the wear on the rear looks natural but some of the chips and knocks on the front and edges look like they were done yesterday by Mr. Black and Mrs. Decker. The neck is gorgeous but the body looks like a p1ss poor relic job to me.
7. I wonder how much mammoth tusk is. It should probably be illegal seeing as ivory is, what with mammoths being slightly rarer than elephants.... Just think - each time you file the nut slots you're taking hundreds off the value of the bass!
8. I have tried a few (all cheapies) and they all struggled with the E and some with the A also. The one i have at home doesn't make a very good connection with the instrument (spring is too weak) and struggles tuning anything without being phisically pressed onto the surface. Spending more money will probably get you a better product but that kinda defeats the idea for me. I use a Korg Pitchjack for home playing and practice - handles flat tuning which i need and you can put it in loads of 1/4" sockets besides the bass itself like mixers, line or tuner outs etc. http://www.korg.co.uk/products/tuners/pitchjack/tu_pj.asp Also has a little torch!
9.
Are you sure yourself that there's a need for new pickups? I mean, it doesn't matter what other people think if you like the tone you're getting out of it.
+1 They're quite nice basses those V940s, the one i had was really well put together and was generally a very good bass. The weak link is the preamp which, while decent enough for a cheapy bass, doesn't really do the bass justice. I'd take it back to passive first (totally reversible and very cheap) and give it a setup if it needs one, preferably by someone who is experienced with fretless. The pickups should be Wilkinsons unless it's one of the really early ones (they've been around for about 10 years now!) so are decent units. I agree that dropping over a ton on a set of Barts just because someone said so is a bit of an extreme measure, it's surprising how similar cheap-mid price pickups are compared to the pricey ones......
10.
A different factory to the one that built the Superfly and the LG, then?
I was just gonna quote that post and embed a Superfly pic!
11. You're probably looking at an i3 for that money. Some typically specced ones on Tesco clearances here: http://direct.tesco....nResultSort.y=8 Also a quad core Acer here for around budget: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5083400/c_1/1|category_root|Office%2C+PCs+and+phones|14418968/c_2/2|14418968|Clearance+Office%2C+PCs+and+phones|14520934/c_3/3|cat_14520934|Laptops+and+netbooks|25097307.htm#pdpFullProductInformation Screens might be a bit inadequate if you have lots going on though, an external monitor to hook up to at home might be worthwhile. Also not many laptops around that price range have Firewire.
12. Haha cool, have you managed to make another extension cab out of the remnants of the combo or is it destined for the skip? It's surprising how nice cheap combo heads sound when paired with a decent cab.
13. The Giraffe stands can be set level so you can use a head & cab. I bought one and it worked fine with a Schroeder 1212r (the heavier one at 50lb) and a LMII. They're not perfect - i would prefer a second clamp so the pressure is distributed evenly over both sides - but absolutely. fine for not-too-heavy cabs. I actually had to reattach the top part on back to front so it would sit level but it makes no difference to the overall appearance or function. I don't know if they're being produced any more but this looks identical: http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/music/typeproducts2.asp?id=4599-6196&ref=base
14. The bass is still available, no takers as of yet! They are really solid basses, if i didn't already have a nice cheapo beater to use as a spare then i'd be keeping it, however i'm trying to cut down on excess basses/music gear/stuff in general! I would also trade/px for a suitable USB controller keyboard
15. I'm thinking of clearing out the ones i don't play, which are actually the only expensive ones (a Zoot custom and the Warwick). I like my cheapy Jazz bitsas, it's hard to let go of a bass as beautiful as the Zoot though!
16. Looks pretty cool as do most of the suggestions (wish i had more money!) but Ahpook has very kindly sent me the mini mixer for free and asked to have the postage cost donated to BC, which was absolutely brilliant of him. The Phonic mixer works a treat and is a really handy practice tool, i've learnt a full set since i got it and it's a perfect solution. I'd definitely recommend them or something similar, i've been using it with an Aphex Xciter but even on it's own it sounds great. It also matches my netbook and my USB interface which is a bonus, tart that i am!
17. I remember a beautiful Tobias 5er listed on eBay for 2.5k a few years back, it had shared a stage with Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Kinda makes this one seem a bit small time, not to mention overpriced
18. Oh, almost forgot, send it back!
19. Yeah you do occasionally get the odd dead string in a pack. I've only ever had it on expensive brands though, never on £4 cheapies and never had a bad set of Elites even though i have used them for most of my playing life.
20.
Roger always says that it was never his intention to take control of the band but he felt like they gave it to him. He did force Rick out using the threat of deleting The Wall as a means to get him out so by the time Roger left, they were effectively a 3 piece.
That's kind of how i've always seen it, rather than Roger wanting to take control by force it just kind of ended up that way because he was the only one who could actually write an album's worth of material that was up to standard. I remember an interview with him a while ago where he explained how frustrated he'd become, i think if he wasn't such a headstrong person Floyd may have fizzled out without The Wall ever coming to fruition. I think if it was any other way we'd have seen some amazing solo albums and post-Roger Floyd albums written by the other three. I guess the absence of those works speaks volumes.
21.
dont they die off in the winter? I know last winter the avarage temperature was below freezing for 31 days on the run!! (well in the north West anyway.)
There's some in Stanley Park lake in Blackpool the size of dinner plates, been there years and survived it freezing over. There's also one in a little pond i sometimes fish which is 2ft at it's deepest and freezes over as soon as someone mentions "frost". Tough b@st@rds!
22. Ah i have the video with the pie and the Dark Side recordings. Also has the little sibilance argument! I also thought Roger came across really well in the interviews, he's always been an eloquent speaker and seems to have mellowed a little! I like Radio Kaos and Amused to Death, the snippets i heard of another album (the name escapes me) he played at the NEC a few years ago were good too. Never liked Floyd without him, sounds like over-produced 80s tripe and hasn't aged well at all, whereas Waters-Floyd still sounds fantastic. Maybe i'm a little biased as i've always liked the old goat!
