1. I thought Gaf just used transfers for block markers. In fact i thought Fender did too on maple boards. I have one Mighty Mite neck (a fretless modern P shape) and it's ace.
 2.
My 'dinky P' in swamp ash is almost comically lightweight and the neck doesn't dive at all. Might do with Fender type tuners, but it's fine with Schaller lightweight.
I had Schallers on mine too, plus the neck and fingerboard was solid Pau Ferro and it didn't dive. It was just something that was brought up a few times when i was researching Warmoths along with the old profile J necks.
 3. My Warmoth was lovely, faultless quality and stunning to look at. As mentiones, if you want Jazz width necks you have to specify, my Jazz had a thicker neck than i expected (still a breeze to play) and it was a common complaint. All sorted now though as they offer J spec necks. Also the steel rods can add a bit of weight to the neck. I had a Walnut body so it didn't affect balance but is you spec light ash or something then it might be an issue. One thing is for sure - you get stunning quality parts at what i consider to be a good price. Not the cheapest option but the choice is amazing.
 4.
I have been offered £300 for my active version without the guy even seeing it.
And yet for the £150 difference you could get a top drawer pre fitted. Can't believe this is still here, absolutely silly money.
 5.
the fingers have it.
And the EMG pup and pre that he installed...
 6.
I musrt admit having recently swapped from lead to bass that my acoustic solid case is a pain on account of only being able to carry it via the handle and my P base is sticking out the top of my old gig bag but is so much easier to move around
I have a Tribal Planet semi-rigid gigbag for my acoustic which is really light with backpack style straps. Dead easy to carry and was pretty cheap too.
 7. You could get a bypass switch fitted in case the battery dies or the electronics fail mid-gig, all my basses have these and they can be wired to a push/pull pot so no extra drilling.
 8.
+1 for OBBM This could go on for a while! lol Si
There must be a few of these threads now! Although it's a bit overdone here (i'm sure half our keyboards have faded "O" "B" and "M" keys) they are excellent cables at great prices. Most of my cables are OBBM and i can't fault them, realistic postage prices very quick turnaround too.
 9.
So what's the etiquette then, from a legal perspective? Say if I liked one I'd come up with - what level of tweaking, reengineering or rewriting, won't see you hauled over the coals for infringing some copyright or other?
You should stick some cow bell in there. If it still sounds similar then utilise some more cow bell. If that doesn't work then you need a new cow bell.
 10. I have one in my P copy, i like it! Didn't expect much given the price tag but was pleasantly surprised, i'd like to try their J set at some point. I also like the Duncan designed J set but haven't tried their P.
 11. Some of them had the all-in-one plastic guard, see here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...+jazz+pickguard
 12. £40 is a very good price for a single channel Superfly, they're very good for home use. Ashdown really don't seem to want to support this amp, not surprising given it's manufacturing defects and poor construction. They didn't reply to me when mine needed a repair either yet were very responsive when i enquired about it with a view to buying one. Seems like it's something they want to forget about. If you ignore a problem it just goes away right?
 13.
Thank goodness for that. Trying to keep costs down as already shelled out £15 on solder kit and extra £20 on helping hand and some decent wire cutters.
Aye but think of all the money you'll save, a soldering kit pays for itself really quickly. No more paying for a pickup swap, lead repair etc.
 14. You can usually pick those "3rd hand" things in cheapy DIY shops, i have one as you definitely need 3 hands for soldering! I never got the hang of the desolder pump and use braided wick instead. Are there any drawbacks to using that? Everybody seems to use the pumps.
 15.
Hard drive magents are very strong and pretty small. You can use 2 to remove those annoying red tabs in DVD cases if the shop forgets to take them off. That said, you would have to buy hard drives for this and each magnet would cost you £20 minimum....
Or just stick an ad on Freecycle for dead hard drives, i bet you could get a few from computer shops too.
 16.
I'm really amazed at how low the resale value of Warwick's are.....very very well built instruments! Though their shapes can be a bit.... phallic? Anyone know why their resale value is so low? As others have said....I think £500 could get you a higher end Warwick that the streamer you have mentioned!
Well the Streamer the OP was looking at was their cheaper model, hence all the missing features and Rockbass styling. They rightfully go for around £200 as they weren't that expensive new. Corvettes are an interesting one, the retail of the German Standard (now discontinued) was recently about £1k IIRC, whereas when i bought mine in 2002 the actual selling price was £600 for the Standard Active in Ash. Their used price of around £400 seems fair considering that. I guess there's just not that many people willing to pay the "correct" prices for the higher end Warwicks these days. I guess instead of selling them we should all just buy another while they're still cheap!
 17. Streamer Standards like that go for around £200, don't pay more than that. They were the precursor to the Rockbass range, notice the similar shape (no contours), body wood, passive pup(s), front mounted jack, one piece bridge... Think of it as a Warwick neck on a Rockbass body. I had the single pickup version, nice necks but not one of the nicer low end Warwicks, my Corvette totally blew it away. Budget £400 and try to pick up a Fortress or Corvette. Keep an eye on eBay and you might get lucky with one of the higher end models too.
 18.
What's the history of this? Is it a Fender?
If it's what i think it is then it's from an eBay seller who used to make them, going off the neckplate. In fact there's a chance that this one might have been mine at some point as i bought one from new. If it is the one i sold then i put USA pickups in there and Dr. Dave added the pg. Not saying it is that one though.... If it is one of those eBay basses then it's a good player, at least mine was. Nice fretless basses with tons of mwah, if you want to get that Jaco tone then those basses were a good buy.
 19.
Someone's just 'won' it for 155. I thought I'd be able to contact them to warn them, but can't see how. Is there a way?
Bidders' identities are hidden. £155 (plus £20 p+p) for that? There is a CV Jazz on here for £160....
 20.
to be honest i wouldnt dream of taking all my expensive gear (not that i own much expensive gear) to some of the dives we play.i mean we played at a pub in millom cumbria where a lot of our gear got damaged and i ended up minus a front tooth because of the local roid boys acting like arseholes.
Haha Millom! I know a few people from around there (well Haverigg actually) and from what i hear the nightlife does seem to have gone down the roid and coke route. We used to play around Carnforth and Lancaster for a bit and had a similar experiences in a few pubs there, basically a few idiots take over the pub and the landlord doesn't complain because they spend half their wage in there.
 21.
I reckon my Squier sounds better through my BF BigOne/LMIII than my MIA P Deluxe does through a Behringer2X10/Hartke set up I sometimes use. So, in my experience, you get a better overall sound by moving a greater proportion of your 'spend' over to the amp and cab. So, I think your plan is a good one.
Yeah i already have a Schroeder/LMII rig which sounds great whatever i put through it - i used our guitarist's girlfriend's pink 3/4 PBass copy (complete with Hello Kitty stickers) as a backup once or twice and that still sounded great! I just really want a Promethean combo or a Midget, or both! I have no real bass GAS these days but amp GAS is terrible!
 22.
To cross-refer to another thread, I think all the postings on this one answer the question why we don't see more boutique gear at gigs.
I used to use a boutique bass (2k new) and my cheapo Aria at gigs, never really thought of it as weird that two basses at opposite ends of the price spectrum both got equal use. If anything the Aria got more playing hours because i just leave it lying around the house. You have to keep those expensive basses in flightcases! Tbh i've thought about shifting all the expensive gear and just using my 3 cheapo Jazzes exclusively, i can get pretty much everything i want out of them and i have serious Promethean/BF Midget GAS!
 23. I've gigged my Aria several times, it sounds the business! It was my backup bass in my covers band days but got plenty of outings, i really like it as an instrument, it has bags of character and tone. In fact i was playing it today through headphones and my cheapo Zoom pedal (daughter having a nap so i snuck a quick practice in), still sounded the nuts! Roll the neck pup off slightly and it's a killer. Cost me £45 off eBay.
 24.
When he gets a bit older, he's going to wish he got good at playing the sort of music girls his age like.
Aye, he's going to be gutted when he does his first proper gig and instead of a front row full of young nubile women it's just a load of middle aged men in cardigans shouting "do 'Lessons in Love'"
 25. Loads of people are happy with their rig and have had the same kit for years. The reason they seem rare is that they don't post new threads every other week updating everyone with news of their shiny new toys and telling us how much better it was than the last one they had! It's be pretty boring if there were loads of threads with the title "Still got the same amp, nothing new here" or "Looked at a Genz yesterday, didn't buy it". I am however eternally grateful that this site has a FS section with lots of cool new kit at knockdown prices, something that is largely due to the fickle desires of gear whores! If i ever feel like a different amp/cab this site is the first place i come to.
