1.
Shaun EMails a week ago, guess what - he cant find the payment. I sent him paypal proof then no replies to my daily emails. I have filed a claim with Paypal I wish his covers were rubbish as he doesnt deserve to keep in business with his appalling trading record. All 3 of the orders I have placd with him have been disasterous but the quality of the covers is great. Here we go again.....
Maybe link him to this thread? If you Google "Silverstone Amp Covers" there's 4 complaint threads from different sites on the first page, including this one. I'm not sure how this guy is still in business, no way i'd ever buy anything from him no matter how nice his covers are. Btw there's also this company that makes cabinet covers, never used them but there's an eBay shop and a really bad website. Seems good quality and if he rips you off i can go and shout at him as it's just down the road from me! It's based in Fleetwood, Lancashire. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/bacsew/?_trksid=p4340.l2559 http://bacsew.co.uk/default.aspx I'm thinking of getting a quote for my EA cab (i want a cover with a velcro top and shoulder strap), if i go ahead with it i'll post my experiences here.
 2. I have to use a boost for slap parts as i play quite heavily fingerstyle. I have a little signal boost box made by Silentfly but most of the time i use the MXR M80 which has a switchable preamp with a 3 band eq. Any decent boost/preamp/eq pedal should get the job done.
 3. Been casually looking for these parts for a while and can't seem to find them at a reasonable price. I know the surround is available from Allparts and a few USA shops but i'm not too keen on paying £31. I have also seen the control plates knocking about but the cheaper ones seem to be 4 hole and not 3. Any ideas? I thought this would be the sort of thing that would be on eBay for a few quid but obviously not.
 4. Currentlt really want a Promethean but can't justify it as i really don't need it. I have a featherweight practice rig and a compact gig rig, any more would be pure greed! I'm actually GASsing for some space around the house so i'm having a bass gear clearout.
 5. Yeah no worries, the new prices are £5.50 for the 3 knobs and £2 for the buttons so how about £5 including delivery?
 6. There's loads of fun to be had, especially if you're all mates. I used to prefer gigging to going out to the pub, it's a different party in a different venue every night! Bear in mind that it's quite a big financial outlay and you may need to have very understanding bosses at whatever day jobs you do. If you don't already have it you'll need a full band PA with lights, somewhere to keep it and something to drive it (and you!) about in. But yeah, get the right balance and it's a pretty cool situation to be in, just don't let it strain friendships for whatever reason.
 7.
I think that link to the Talkbass test should be auto inserted every time a discussion around wood and it's effect on tone is started to bring the correct level of perspective.
+1 Or simply ask when was the last time a bassist went into a studio and was asked to use an alder/ash/cocobolo bodied bass.....
 8.
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/scrap-lum...ference-743932/
This /\ Come on now, there's no way you can judge the supposed tonal qualities of a body wood using such flawed means as some of the ones mentioned in previous posts. There's a million other factors that determine tone, pretty much all of which are more influential than the type of body wood - not that the wood type is a consistent factor anyway. People ted to identify trends in their previous (often limited) experiences with basses and make massive general assumptions. Simply playing two individual instruments with different body woods and noticing that they have different sounds does not automatically mean that that it is down to that one factor. Tbh i think in a blind test barely anyone can single out woods that contribute to tone on an electric instrument, as the link above shows. We all have expectations based on preconceptions which colour our judgement - hence people assume that the better sounds come the bass that fits their idea of what a "proper" instrument is. So to the OP, don't worry about it, Basswood works fine!
 9. This Corvette just sold for under £300: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:B:WNA:GB:1123 I was thinking about having a bid on it but i need to cut down on bass stuff, not get more just because it's cheap! The Fortress that didn't sell at £350 was the same finish too, could have had a matching pair for £650. Ah well, i'll just console myself with the fact that i got a Fortress One for £250......
 10. One of my favourite Floyd songs that, basically around G - i only ever played it on acoustic guitar so don't know the b-line. The guitar part plays the ascending line during the verse, i dunno if the bass doubles that.
 11. Looks like they have stock too, or did recently: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=126329&st=20
 12.
I got caught by that one.....they say they wont have any till August 2010... Their previous page says they have stock
Aye i edited my post once i'd actually looked at the page properly! Probably best to contact them, might even get a cheeky BC discount if you pm them!
 13.
Just checked and it was 548 @Thomann Would anyone like to comment on EffectPowerSupplies, how would they rate them as a dealer....before I drop my wedge......
They are on here, why not drop them a line and see if they will price match Thomann? "Fxpedal.co.uk, EffectPowerSupplies.com and the shop, Stompbox, are all trading names of the same business, Stompbox Ltd." http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=8939 EDIT: The site is a little out of date though - "out of stock until August 2010". It does say they'll price match, remember Thomann's price includes delivery.
 14.
I wonder what the loop of string on the volume (tone?) knob is for. Perhaps the seller hangs his basses up on the wall by daisy chaining them from machine head to volume knob to machine head and so on.
Is he a lighthouse keeper? Either way, good price for what i assume is a Hohner Bbass if it stays at £150
 15.
I don't know enough about Fenders to comment on the authenticity, but the over-sized neck pocket and terrible neck angle certainly look like the Fenders I remember from 1979.
Ouch, you could get a £1 coin in between the neck and body on either side! Otherwise a nice looking bass though.
 16. There's been a Fortress One listed on eBay twice now which had a start bid of £350, failed to sell both times. The $$ Corvettes seem to sell for around £500 - £600, although again i've seen em go for much lower than that. Basically if you have a Warwick then don't sell it and if you have some spare cash then buy two! This slump in value can't last forever, although they've been rock bottom for ages now.
 17.
Hi I've played there a few times..... Just make it very clear to the Bride and Groom before the event that it's beyond your control. You'll just have to play within it's limits.
This. It's not your fault that the venue book a function (an important day of someone's life) and allow them to spend money on a band without actually having the infrastructure in place to cope with it. IME they think it's the bands' fault, even though they can't cope with the volume of an un-mic'd kit.
Why should we put up with the damage to our equipment that can happen when these things cut the power to it mid-gig? There is absolutely NO way that I am spending any more money on repair costs after being subject to this kind of stupidity.
Totally agree. Although venue management/owners really don't give two sh1ts about bands' equipment. At a venue we refused to play because of this issue we had the owner storming on stage and pulling all the mixer sliders down. Our singer gave him a right bollocking on stage in front of a whole wedding crowd!
 18. "that has be lovingly distressed and upgraded by a guy who relics guitars for a living (me). It really is a fantastic job and as you can see much better than then road worn series you see in the shops" Worryingly i don't doubt that he actually gets paid for this sh1t. He honestly thinks that this is what a well used guitar looks like.
 19.
Now sold to Augie in Australia - sent today by FedEx - a pity it had to go out of the UK. Ironically I received a post from somebody trying to buy it about 20mins after FedEx picked it up..
Exactly the same thing happened to me after trying to sell my Warmoth for about a year with no interest. A UK buyer wanted it about 5 minutes after i'd agreed to send it abroad! Glad the Dolphin found a good home anyways.
