i had the Superfly matching 2x8 & 1x15 and it was still not powerfull enough. I'm in several live situations at the moment, and it probably would have been ok for the jazz stuff, but definatly not loud enough for the blues outfit. Still to much to carry about for the jazz venues. Love a small powerful combo that would do it all!!
Ah yeah i remember the FS thread now! Strange, you'd think the cabs from that range would be enough, i remember a guy on Talkbass using them with a pair of 4hm 1x15 cabs and finding them more than loud enough.
reviews tell me the the little giant range, like the Superfly don't really cut it, and from what I can tell, the Markbass needs a mortgage to be able to buy one. Are they that good??
The LMIIs are around £350 2nd hand on here - a total no brainer for that sort of money. There's one here in a custom made case for that amount: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=133151 I actually quite like my Superfly, however they were plagued with problems and faults like you said. Mine is still going strong and gets used every day so i reckon i've got a survivor, they'll be rare and valuable one day because so many let out the magic smoke!. They work best with 2 sensitive cabs but i get practice volume out of mine with a little 8ohm EA cab as shown in the first post. Also the volume pot needs cranking as it's linear, not like a lot of amps which are at full volume on 2 or 3! As they usually go for around £100 on here and the last few i've seen on eBay have gone for £10-£20 more than that they are still a good option IMO, you just need to be aware of what they can and can't do and what cabs they work with. One thing i wanted to try was wiring an 8ohm Ashdown 4x8 cab up to 2 Speakons, utilising the full output of the Superfly with a very compact cab, i reckon that would be enough volume.
Dont have the midget anymore, but this was a stunning little set up:
I really want to try a Midget, i'm just a bit scared i'll end up ordering one! I'm in the process of selling off some stuff so i'm gonna see how much i have to play with and whether i can add anything to it, a BF Midget or a Promethean is the aim i think. Seeing as you've had both, i assume the Midget is the loudest and most able to stand up to a drummer?

There's some nice little touches on that bass (the ebony line between the body and facing) but they're completely ruined by a gaudy design completely devoid of class. If he had someone to rein him in then i reckon he could produce a stunning bass. Without all the 'orrible inlays that one's actually a bit ACGish to my eyes.
But very briefly. KE came across as very level headed and easy on the ears. Pretty laid back character i thought.
I always thought so too. I particularly like the soundtrack he did with Eastwood Sr. on Million Dollar Baby. Understated and beautiful i thought.

Does anyone else find this both crap and worrying....?
I concede that we should all be happy knowing that an instrument should be judged on its own merits and not on the perception of quality implied by a name on the headstock, however there is little harm (in my book) in a mocked up bitsa with a 'name' logo. I personally much prefer those jokey logos that are meant to look like Fender/Rickebacker etc. from a distance but when you get up close it is a complete mickey take. To clarify... it's one thing to stick a transfer on to please yourself with no intent, either now or in the future, to dupe or fool someone into thinking it is something that it is not BUT I completely agree that transfers applied to deliberately con or fool for gain or increase in perceived value is absolutely wrong!
I'd agree with this. I've stuck decals on a few basses just as a nice alternative to a bare headstock. I never intend to sell them as the real deal or in any way profit from them. However i do like fooling people as it just shows how much they judge value based on a little bit of plastic i knocked up on an inkjet printer. Quite a few people have looked at my half-hearted TimmyC faker and said "Wow, nice Lakland!" Always makes me giggle! -
I'm not familiar with the orange amps, my little Genz rig is in that thread though. It just makes sense to me to use your best gear all the time rather than sitting unused between gigs. There are enough makes and model to create your own rig that covers everything just by switching cabs about.
I put my little rig together purely because i wanted a versatile, clean sounding practice rig. I already had the Superfly and wanted to make use of it as i liked the sound of the amp, seemed like a great excuse to make a mini-rig! What i like about mine is that i can save presets for the basses i use at home (fretless acoustic, Jazz and Precision) and flit between them with a button press, it's an amp i really like messing about with. It's a much cleaner sound than the Hartke A70 it replaced which i prefer, even though the Hartke A series are great little amps for home practice

warwick thumb bo control knob problem
lemmywinks replied to richievet's topic in Repairs and Technical
I had a similar problem on my Corvette, had to replace the push/pull volume pot as it was an intermittent fault. You'll be glad to know it's an easy job, probably less happy to learn that the parts from Warwick costs £70: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=warwick+pot I think there's a link in that thread to a site with a cheaper alternatives Edited for spelling/information -
What sort of power does the Wizzy 10 handle? Or more importantly, what sort of volume does it kick out? I love my little EA cab, it sounds excellent and gets loud enough, but i'd need to add another cab for a gig or really loud practice. I'm GASsing for a Promethean combo or a Barefaced Midget but can't really justify the expense, gonna sell some things and see what sort of money i have to play with! Must admit i really like the idea of the Wizzy backpack, could cycle to gigs!

I use this: Tucks into a space between the sofa and a wall and is more than loud enough. Also doubles as my rehearsal rig. The only problem is my little girl loves the dancing LEDs so if she's in her walker she makes a dash for it. I have to be ready to put the bass down and stop her from unplugging leads and snapping pots at all times!

No need for an apology, also i wasn't referring to you in my previous post either, it was mainly an observation of many previous threads where that has happened. I should probably re-read my posts before clicking the mouse button!

I think Dean are bringing one out...

Apologies for the "pipe down" bit, probably a bit unneccessary. One of the best things about this forum is that we have quite a few genuine experts who offer advice you just can't get at your local guitar shop. I would hate to think they might not post as much because of umpteen challenges from people who just don't possess equivalent knowledge. It's not so much that Alex and BFM et al get "a lot of love", nobody sucks up to them. It's just that they're the most qualified people to answer questions on this subject, they are well respected for a reason. I for one have found their presence on here extremely beneficial.
OK guys enough, if the mad proff gets a lot of luv round here thats ok, but there`s no need for him to make what I thought was a quite rude statement. Clipping amps is not recommended by anyone I know in the industry, not P.A amps, not guitar amps, not bass amps. OVERDRIVING them is different, that`s pe-amp stuff, not OUTPUT amp. If the barefaced stuff is different then ok,happy days and i want one. But no need for the complete "you may not actually have a brain so I`ll try to explain in monosyllables" stuff I got from him. right. Done. Have a nice day
You've been a member here for 5 minutes. Pipe down.
These are probably Matsumoku but I don't think it's confirmed. Not that it matters, they're lovely MIJ through-necks, these are rare as the proverbial & I'd love to get my hands on one! Jon.
What sort of money would you expect them to fetch? Just in case i see my old teacher around and feel like making an offer!
Should have bought a Warwick.... Padded gigbag, tool kit, manual, straplocks, wax, duster, label telling me what woods were used, when and where it was made etc!
Yeah, you do get a lot of nice toys with Warwicks! My corvette was my first expensive new bass and it made it a bit more special getting all the trinkets. I think every bass should come with tools for the truss and bridge, if Sue Ryder can do it then everyone can!
-
My music teacher at high school had one of those, lovely looking basses. I seem to remember the brass nut was goosed and the E string slipped off occaisionally. In fact i think that was the first bass i ever played, maybe my love of natural thru-necks runs pretty deep!

after you've fixed it get a Speakon lead, much better option IMO

I'll say it again: Hmmmm..... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1197957 This wasn't a misunderstanding methinks.
I don't mind the parties posting but I'm not sure how relevant anyone else's comments are.
Apart from the fella who posted a really useful bit of information right before your post!

Dunno how the new Ashdown thingy will sound compared to your existing amp though, their previous micro heads don't really retain brand identity in that respect. Have you considered taking it out of the casing and mounting it in a rack bag? Will make it much more manageable than carrying it in a bulky case, even just as a temporary measure till you find a micro head you like.

What cabs were they? Don't think i've ever heard that description attributed to Markbass before! Still, horses for course and all that
Same thing with Dean's Dimebag BASS signature model, when the hell was he a bassist
To be fair he did have 15" drivers as part of his rig! Incidentally Dimebag didn't use half the Dean/Randall stuff he endorsed when he was alive. The Warhead and the distortion pedal aren't part of his sound but he stuck his name on them. Same deal with his signature strings i think.
