We've seen these before: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118032&hl=dean I think it's ok for them to license the shape but calling them a signature model is a bit off. Why do we need an Entwhistle signature anyway? He played about a million basses! Like Waldo said, just some people making a few bob off grandad's name. If they didn't do it now then Entwhistle's great great grandkids would do it years down the line, the money is there to be made. It's amazing the amount of "signature" equipment that has sprung up years (decades even) after the artists' death. I have a Jimi Hendrix strap (bought cheap cos i needed a strap), my mate has a Hendrix signature Digitech pedal (it's cr@p). I don't think he'd touch either if he were around today! Same story with these Deans i reckon.

Apparently they don't deliver the performance of a trad dual driver cabinet whilst being as heavy and expensive. Basically they offer no benefits over a single driver cab. I was briefly interested a while ago but the price and weight put me off, BFM had some interesting things to say here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...3&hl=orange
Beats me, I'd do the marketing for them ha ha, they always seem in such a rush to get stuff selling, strange, they should slow it down a little, to get it right, the lg and the superfly were great ideas poorly executed, in a rush, they could have been great amps esp the superfly. I don't get it, have they not heard of beta testing, Marks old company the green T did a lot of trialing before they launched their new range.
Totally agree, i've always wondered why Ashdown abandoned the Superfly ethos and didn't just iron out the flaws. That could have been their defining amp, the one thing that made them stand out as innovators. The digital front end on that amp still impresses me and i wonder why other amp manufacturers don't do something similar. We all like buttons and flashy lights after all! Maybe they thought the name/design had too much stigma after the quality issues. I also think they could have got someone a little better prepared for the interview. It sounded like their rep had just read the back of the amp box prior to filming and decided to wing the rest with some old cliches and baseless claims.
Any pictures of the cab you're selling? What are they like? Heavyweight? Good for rock or jazz? I have no idea with bag-end but it seems like a good price?? Cheers.
It is a good price, i think Beedster's gone mental! Here's what it'd cost you to buy the new equivalent: http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/ba...e-15-enclosure/ I have no clue what this one's like but Bag End aren't exactly known for skimping on quality. I'm glad it's so far away from me tbh otherwise i'd have to buy it!

If you do find somewhere that'll sell a single Hi Beam G then could you let me know please? I had one break on me straight away, not playing hard either it just went on our 2nd song. Kinda put me off the brand tbh as i don't expect a suspect batch when paying that much for strings. Seeing as i have 3 almost new strings i could do with a replacement G! Cheers!
Take nothing for granted, the car amp i sent to the Romanian prick who received it,got the payment held,we went to resolution centre where he openly admitted to opening the amp up and it was"dirty",even though the unit was working and advertised as"old but working",PP decided..."We've determined that the buyer should receive a 60.00 GBP refund if theysend the merchandise back to you. The merchandise will be in the samecondition as when the buyer received it and the buyer is responsible forall postage and packing costs." Its getting returned in the same condition, albeit opened, tampered with....paypal/ebay have both been told to shove their services up their arse, ive had 60 odd transactions go well and to add insult, this w***er awards me neg feedback,i go to do the same yet the option isnt there, its either"positive or leave feedback later".
You can always ask eBay to remove inaccurate/offensive feedback. They've done it for me before when i dealt with a total clown.
Well I havn't got around to fitting the pick-ups in the Ryder yet so I'll take a look when I do. Maybe it'll be even worse than my soldering And what about the neck "I was planning on putting a jazz neck on the Squire. If I bought a neck on here would I need to measure the neck pocket on my squire and ask for the measurements of the neck to check it fits? "?
An idea i had was to draw round the neck heel and scan it on a PC so you can email it to people for them to print out and check. I got some parts together last year with the idea of making a few bitsas. Out of 3 bodies and 4 necks only one lot fitted together snugly, even then i had to do make some minor adjustments. Can be a bit of a minefield!
-
Not much help but when you come to rewire the bass (if you haven't already) then it might be an idea to have a look at the Ryder too. Mine has a pretty horrible and messy wiring job and isn't something i'd gig. In fact i'd go as far to say it was some of the worst soldering i've seen in a long time! Might as well do both if you've got the soldering iron and wire snips out! While we're on the subject of bridges, don't discount the cheapys off eBay. I fitted one of the Schaller 3D copies to my Jazz bitsa and it's surprisingly good, much chunkier than the usual fare and still under £15 delivered. It was this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-string-Black-hard-...=item1e5c094e2c There's quite a few decent looking bridges at that price, most from Papa Ds or CH Guitars (both great service), all look like good alternatives to the usual BBOT.
I've yet to see anywhere where there is such a large selection of used bass gear as good as you get on here.
Massive +1, although you forgot to mention the sometimes silly-cheap prices as well. The BC marketplace is unlike anything i've ever encountered before, it's like walking into my ideal music shop only everything is on a half price sale!

I'd also add that what works with my rig (and more importantly drummer and his kit) might not work for yours. I found the EBS drive pedal pretty much gutless when i used it, yet my mate has exactly the same pedal (we even A/B tested them at one point!) and loves it in his rig. The only way to know if a pedal works for you live is to gig it. Fortunately buying and selling pedals on here is quick and cheap with almost no losses as pedals retain their values quite well, so it's also a fun process too! If you're after a top distortion then i'd also look at the Bogdan Helter Skelter and the Owen Bass Gremlin, i really liked both of those, particularly the Owen. I've also been looking for a Carl Martin bass OD but they're quite pricey when they come up.
-
Well they're totally different pedals really so a comparison isn't that useful. I used to have the Blowtorch, really nice pedal with a good variety of fuzz sounds. Does a synthy, buzzy fuzz really well, i imagine it would be good for Muse type stuff. I could also get a really good, heavy Muff sound out of it at home but it was lost against our old drummer, it struggled to compete with his loud, mid-heavy kit and sounded a bit gutless despite lots of fiddling with the eq. I'd like to try it again although it is a pain to power (18v supply). The M80 is a different beast, it's a distortion with a switchable 3 band EQ and a DI. It's been on my pedalboard sonce i bought it ages ago. The drive is great, really ticks all the boxes for me and i'd use this pedal if this was all it did, indeed the drive is the main reason i bought it. One of the only Distortion pedals i've used that retains all the cut and low end from the clean signal, so you can switch it in without going overboard on volume. By that i mean it sounds like a distorted version of the source, rather than an over-processed sound that smothers the original signal. The blend knob is the key to this pedal i think.

When i needed a spares i just rang up, their contacts page is here: http://www.samsontech.com/main/misc.cfm?pageID=6 I'd imaging a quick email to the Hartke support would get you what you wanted, they don't seem to give a UK phone number now but they were really helpful when i rang.

Sounds like a good dealt to me!!! Looks very similar to mine, really nice basses although when i'm done with mine it'll only be the body that's original.
Dinky Doom.
I don't think you quite understand the concept of a mini rig! We used to run one of those power amps in our rack as a monitor amp, heavier than my entire rig! Dubs that homebuild is interesting, did you design it yourself? Looks nice and deep like a TC
My old "mini stack" I went off SS after that so had to go for something a bit chunkier.
That's ace! Are those tens or twelves? There's something about the little EA cabs that really appeals to me, can't quite put my finger on it. I'm very tempted to buy the damaged CXL112 on here and stick a Deltalite in it, but then my mini rig would be bigger than my main rig!
I personally think £1500 is a bit high, especially given the condition. Having said that - if you put it on ebay and 2 people want it, then it could sail past that. OTOH, you might only reach £800ish.
This is more accurate, although the sunburst is more desirable than the natural one. When i sold mine (natural Artist '77) it had a slightly bent tuner and was heavily marked around the fingerboard and edges (relic'd!). All the electrics were fine as was the neck. Stuck it on eBay with a start bid of £600 and didn't get a single bid. Sold it later for about £500. However i've seen them get well over £1500, just depends on who's after one at that time really. I think i could have got a few hundred more for mine in different circumstances.

Anyone here play and gig with an acoustic bass?
lemmywinks replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I occasionally use a fretless acoustic strung with TI flats and mic it. It sounds like a DB. I can't see the point of using an acoustic with on-board electrics, you might as well use an electric (my Precision does a woodier tone than a lot of acoustics, and a lot of acoustics I've played sound very harsh through the onboard electrics, and that includes some expensive ones)
Mine just has a cheap piezo with passive vol and tone, sounds excellent when cleanly amplified. Like i said i roll the tone completely off, very good DB sound with black nylons on. Definitely sounds different to any electric i own. I prefer it to most of the ones with an active pre and all that gubbins, just sounds great as it is -
Anyone here play and gig with an acoustic bass?
lemmywinks replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I've had mine for ages now (about 12 years) and it's seen a few gigs and loads of jams. De-fretted and strung with black nylons it's lovely, such a different (read better) instrument now than it originally was with frets and bronze strings, although decent bronzes are nice to play. I always roll the (passive) tone right off, quite a convincing DB impression. I don't see it as gimmicky at all, it's a really useful instrument IMO. I've thought about buying a more expensive "better" one but then it'd never make it to beach parties and barbeques! -
Hartke 410 XL 400 watt cab NOW SOLD
lemmywinks replied to bassfunk's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Ah, my old cab! Also worth a mention that it's the old USA made one, IMO much better made than the more recent Chinese ones. These were expensive cabs when new! Cover is also excellent quality and would set you back £35+ if bought seperately so a lot of cab for the money. Looks like it's in the exact same condition as when i sold it too! -
The LG were out for a couple of years ask around how many people are still using them, I wonder why as they sound pretty good............
That's it i think. I actually really like the sound of my Superfly and it gets daily use (it's my practice and rehearsal head). If Ashdown had got it right and not compromised on the design and build then it would be such a great little amp. Unfortunately the LG have had the same reports of flimsy controls and weak mismatched preamps, shame really as they represent a missed opportunity to get a little lightweight head at entry level prices. Has anyone used these yet?
