http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1180606 Problem solved! If you're budget is £400 then you'll get that amp + delivery, a 1m Speakon lead and a B&Q case to keep it all in.

Surely if the PA fails then it's gig over? Unless the singer goes through the bass amp.... I think we're getting away from what the OP asked. His situation is that he is filling in on bass for a friend's band and is looking for a temporary solution. If they have a suitable PA then it's totally fine, in some cases preferable, to not have a bass amp and just DI.
Find yourself a decent cheap, small amp. A DI box is a good backup plan or if you can be sure of every gig you'll play, but I bet there's not one person on here that's gigged regularly and hasn't needed an amp at some point. Turning up to a gig without an amp is unprofessional and will quickly earn you a bad rep if you do it without good warning. If you're not going to get an amp, at least make it very clear before every gig that you won't have one with you to the promoter and other bands that may lend you gear. I don't let bands use my gear at gigs unless it's all organised before hand, even if it means they don't have an amp (the last gig I played where both the other bands showed up without an amp, they both ended up using a small combo and blacklisted from the venue). If someone can't be bothered to shoot me some contact asking about it, I can't be bothered to lend out my gear.
Well, not really. Silddx doesn't use an amp, but then all the gigs he plays have proper setups with adequate monitoring - i class "adequate" as fully capable of handling bass btw, not just vocals and a bit of kick. It's not unprofessional at all, if you know you have good enough monitors you can completely do away with an amp. I guess less people are in that position, hence needing a bass amp for monitoring and in some cases an addition to (or the bulk of) FOH. The OP wasn't talking about cadging or borrowing gear, he was talking about using the gear they have to omit a bass amp.

Some people have found that the LG heads have the same problem as the Superfly regarding the mismatched pre and power sections. A recent thread over on Finnbass (very interesting, check it out) shows that with a boost of some sort in the effects loop even the 350w can be a decent amp with enough volume. Still quiet for it's rating though apparently. I'd rather go for the 1000 if i had to choose though. Also bear in mind that although the 350 works like a traditional one-sided amp (350w @ 4ohms), the 1000 is 2x500w @4ohms each. That said, £350 will bag you a used LMII and around £250+ will get a used LM250, so there is choice at that sort of price range. Tbh i don't think Ashdown have really got the micro head thing right yet, still trying one out is the only way to know for sure. I'd go with a used LMII personally as it has bags of power and is a bargain second hand, also ultra-reliable.

Simon was only joking, we all love amps (i covet amps and cabs much more than basses) and i always prefer to have my bass rig there behind me. I dunno why as my MXR does a cracking job and i always DI from it anyway. I guess my preferred monitor is my bass rig!
-
As long as you have decent monitoring then it's an ideal situation. Nothing to carry! If your monitors are just for vocals then you won't be able to hear yourself. Amps aren't actually needed nowadays, we just like 'em!

Ah, thanks again! Yeah it was originally used in Schroeder 4x10 cabs, i got it unused for a very good price with a view to making a little light 1x10. It's going to be used with another little 1x10 and only with one side of a Superfly so it's not going to be pushed hard at all, just something to use as another practice cab. I think i'll be getting the ply quite cheaply through a colleague, the covering is free from work and i already have quite a few parts knocking around, so if it doesn't sound satisfactory i haven't lost much.

Cheers Lawrence! I'm just using the bog standard WinISD i downloaded ages ago, i'll get the other one. What are the differences? I have got the file pretty much done, was just short of the Sd value. Ta Steve

Is that one of the isobaric cabs? What's it like?

I love tiny little rigs and am always interested in seeing what can be done with stupidly small bass rigs - ie micro heads and 1x10 or 1x12 compact cabs. I put this setup together a while ago after using my Superfly with another small cab. It's tiny, loud enough for practices and weighs next to nothing. It comprises: Ashdown Superfly - £199 new EA CXL110c with Deltalite - About £200, off here and Blue Aran Obbm 50cm Speakon cable - £8 off here So watcha got? Anyone gig a minature rig regularly?

Hi I'm going to get down to constructing another mini lightweight cab as the weather is getting a bit warmer and could do with a little bit of help. The driver i am using is a Celestion BN10-300s, the 4ohms version. I have got most of the specs for use in WinISD but have a few questions: - What is the Z value? EDIT - Ohmage? - How do i find the SPL and Z? I understand that SPL at least is pretty essential for modelling bass drivers and they both feature on the frequency/impedance graph, but how do i find the actual values to input into WinISD? Also: - What are the Pe and Sd? EDIT - Is Pe the power rating (w)? Still can't find Sd though - Is the "diameter" the voice coil or driver diameter? EDIT - I assmue the driver? I also understand that Celestion don't use the same methods to get the specs for their drivers, so their values aren't comparable to other drivers. I assume this will be a problem when trying to model the cab? Cheers! Steve

Lovely Streamer Jazzman, mint with hardcase - £499 BIN http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARWICK-STREAMER-JAZ...=item4aa9d1c821 Corvette $$ with hard case, user wear but £450 BIN: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/warwick-bass-/220760...=item3366583f80 Even in the current climate they're both bargains, that's the cheapest i've ever seen a $$, less than a third of the new price.

I bought a Westfield P for about £50 a while ago, came with a decent gigbag, tuner, quality stand, strap and lead too! Was impressed for the price, i had originally intended to use it for parts but i played it for a bit and sold it on. The two tone sunburst was particularly well done, nothing really stood out but then again there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just a good sturdy bass that i wouldn't hesitate to gig with if i needed to.

Need opinions! Ampeg rig. Should i downgrade?
lemmywinks replied to woodyratm's topic in Amps and Cabs
Also if you still want loads of volume on tap there quite a few lightweight compact cabs that get very loud indeed. Have a look at that Genz, you'd probably benefit getting in touch with Mr. Claber too and explaining your situation and what you need from a rig. -
It's got a hole in the back, that's ok though because he "finks" it's so it can be converted into a semi acoustic.

Need opinions! Ampeg rig. Should i downgrade?
lemmywinks replied to woodyratm's topic in Amps and Cabs
Downsizing isn't downgrading, far from it, I don't think anyone gigging Berg cabs for instance would consider your gear an upgrade! There's a plethora of compact, immensely powerful and fantastic sounding rigs out there. The choice nowadays is great, lots of brands have lightweight, compact gear on offer. Big stacks are fun, i used to love having a full rig at gigs, but i eventually got sick of having to store it and move it. Not to mention having to cart it up stairs at 4am after a gig and the long motorway journey home! -
I want a 1x12 cab but there appears to be some confusion as to whether amps/cabs are included? Plus the missus will kill me!
Funnily enough i was just drooling over this before reading this thread: http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/ba...e-12-enclosure/ Tempting!
The tension is low, not as low a TI's but a fair bit under what I'd call standard tension for rounds. Peter donated that neck to me to "experiment" on - the bumps are now gone. I might bung it on a body soon and see if they come back.
Cheers, might have a gander at those. I've preferred Elites rounds for years so spending £30+ on strings just seems a bit unnatural for me. I think i'm getting more stingy with age! You wanna whack that neck on eBay - "Neck for a 1968 Leo Fender bass with original tuners"!
The MXR Blowtorch is fairly unique sounding, well designed with its EQ options, and combines well with modulation effects to sound synthy, but IMO the 18v power requirement is a PITA, and it doesn't get heavy enough (or clean up enough) to be useful.
I found that too. It sounded really monstrous at home but didn't do the business with a loud drummer, no matter what i did. I'd like to try one again with our current drummer as i reckon the fuzzed up mids would get through more, it just sounded a bit polite the first time though. Back to the OP, the 2 fuzz pedals i use are a black Russian Muff and a ZVex Mastotron. Both are my idea of what bass fuzz sounds like but in slightly different ways, since buying the Mastotron i've not bought another fuzz pedal, not for everyone but give one a go. I got a bit frustrated with pedals which didn't retain low end but the 3 way switch on the Mastotron does the job - just set it to 3!

Oh and Rich, what sort of Tension are the Hotwire flats? My SR is fine with the strings i've thrown at it so far, just a bit nervous about putting higher tension strings on it after Greene King's neck issue.

One other thing i noticed when swapping pups on mine was that the holes for the 4 pickup screws were pretty wildly drilled. I mean like someone had done it blindfold! Again it's a simple job to correct, might be something to do with the slightly wonky pup?
It's his item to sell or not to sell. If he doesn't want to, what are you going to do about it ? Pay him by Paypal and he can just refund you. As I say, it' is his amp, not Ebay's.
Completely wrong i'm afraid, both legally and morally. He's listed it as an auction and the OP has won it with the highest bid. The seller has entered a contract by listing it under set conditions and letting the auction run it's course. The seller has offered it for sale and it has sold, no questions. Sometimes you have to do the decent thing and take the hit, instead the seller has extorted money from the OP in a "pay me extra or don't get the amp" kind of way. Although it was settled amicably it's still out of order in my book, still it's not my money and the OP is happy. I'd have told the seller to f**k off personally, reported them to eBay and given them stinking feedback. Just like i have done with every other dishonest eBay seller i've encountered. I'm fully aware the seller is also a member on here, but this is a poor show. He owes the OP the difference between the two sale prices, end of.

Oh and the white with black pg looks sweet btw! Had a jam with mine tonight with my lodger, hopefully practice is on next week after a fortnight of cancellations so i'll get to hear it in a band situation then.

When i got mine the bridge was misaligned, when i moved it i took the opportunity to move it back a bit too. This way the saddles can be moved forward and the break angle for through-body stringing is much better. At some point i'm going to get better ferrules, fill the existing holes and re-drill. Then again i might not bother, it was £60!
