Taking 5 minutes to put one string on in my book IS completely unprofessional.[/quote] Yeah i keep a full matched set of old strings in each bass case/gigbag i have, changing a string and tuning up for me would take a minute or two as the replacement string came off that exact bass. With a Warwick it would be quicker, could probably do that in a minute as that ball ends just slot into the anchor plate. Still unprofessional though!
  2. It's unprofessional because a dancefloor can clear in the time it takes to change a string. It's surprising how little time people are prepared to stand still with no music playing whilst everyone else in the building looks at them! I suppose you could always do a song with a long guitar intro to keep the flow going, but what's worse - bringing another bass or having to play Alright Now?

PA pack down took a fraction of the time and all our leads were immaculately coiled and carefully stored, everybody had spares wherever practical. Having to interrupt the set because of prior negligence or laziness made him scowl! I still do things exactly the way he taught me regarding looking after equipment and how to ensure your night goes without a hitch.

I've been in the situation before where we've had to have a break for someone to change a string. Not fun, looks amateur and clears the dancefloor - 3 things i don't like on gig night!
  5. Mine (Aria Jazz) doesn't resemble my main bass (Zoot Custom) at all. The whole point of a backup is a cheapy that i can leave propped up against a wall and pick up if i break a string or something goes wrong with my bass. All it has to do is intonate and make a bass sound, the rest can be sorted. The last thing i want to do is cart another flightcase around and worry about another expensive bass, so the Aria goes in it's gigbag and if it goes walkies i can replace it for £50 or so. As it happens it's a lovely bass which sounded great on the few occasions i've gigged it. In fact once i played a function on the Aria and left the expensive Zoot playing backup!
  6. My dark blue one has a black scratchplate, it was either that or dark tort. Bear in mind a dark pg will look odd with the white pup cover though
  7. Get on joinmyband and similar sites, explain your situation. If you're using practice rooms there's usually rig you can play through anyway, most important thing is to get out there and get playing, preferably with a decent drummer, good luck!!

  9. Nice, the neck-through stripe look weird on a BO bass though. Good price anyways, not something you see everyday. Corvettes look really strange in those Fender-shaped cases too!

  11. That's quite a bit less than they wanted to charge me for the 10" version! Dunno what to make of it really, it would have made me consider getting the Whizzy driver as i paid about £80 for the Eminence including shipping. Ah well, suppose it doesn't matter now! I would add that although it might seem a lot for an empty box, that same empty box with a speaker in fetches a decent amount of money. These were very expensive when new and still command high prices, the only issue here is the availability of the original proprietary driver These cabs are extremely well made too, i was very impressed when i looked inside my EA cab, absolutely top end construction.
  12. When i got quoted for a replacement Wizzy driver a few months ago it was much more expensive, thats for the 10" version too. The price was $231.08 with a 20% discount from EA. After that you have to pay shipping from USA unless you can get it in the UK. The price i got quoted for the recone kit was $80, plus shipping again from USA. Then there would be the actual repair bill as i was told (by members on here) that it's not an easy job and needs to be done by a professional. Don't mean to undermine the seller or the thread (i'll delete any of this on request if you think it's inappropriate btw), i'd just double check with EA that they haven't got the prices of drivers and recone kits mixed up. FWIW when i fixed my CXL i just used a compatible neo driver, cheapest option and made the cab a fraction of the weight. Might be an idea to contact EA regarding readily available suitable drivers. I used a Deltalite, the original drivers are custom Eminence units apparently. EDIT: That's for the 10" driver /\ /\ /\, no idea what will be suitable for this cab.

It's been used in exactly the same spot for ages without any problems, we did change our fridge but it's been fine for as long as he's had it. I'll get him to try it upstairs, he hates moving it though as it's pretty heavy so it might be a while! Absolutely brilliant amp though, they go for about a ton and sound great. Stupidly loud too!
  16. I've emailed Yamaha for a circuit diagram and their opinion on it, their customer service has a really good reputation so hopefully they'll come up with the goods. Is it harmful to use the amp as it is?

  18. Thomann have a no questions returns policy. Send the items back, get a refund and let them know about it. They're usually really good though, dunno why this is dragging out.
  19. Is that likely to be an expensive repair? Also will it damage the amp in any way? It used to be fine, he's only noticed it in the last day or so and has had the amp for a while.

  22. Hi all I wonder if anyone could shed some light on a problem my lodger is having with his amp, a 70s Yamaha B212 combo. It's developed a "clicking" sound, more noticeable when treble is turned up, the rear pickup is selected or when hands aren't in contact with the strings/hardware. We've swapped leads and it still does it. Also plugged my bass in and it does it when the treble knob is anywhere but rolled off. The amp also has 2 seperate channels, each with seperate high and low inputs (making 4 total inputs) and it does it with all of them. Sound clip attached. What do we think?
  23. IIRC they did a similar thing with ther Ampeg copy. It was a plain old budget bass styled after a very distinctive and individual bass. The only thing it had in common with the original was the body shape. Also i seem to remember the price seeming way too high, don't know if they've come down since then though
