Decided to purchase the one my local shop had - the much sought after Navy with Maple fretboard believe it or not! I noticed in the shop that the bridge was misaligned but that's not a big job, other than that it's hunky dory, might leave it as it is. I got it for plinking around on at work so it'll probably never be plugged in. Unfortunately the maple board isn't anything like the one's i've seen on the Ryder guitars, very plain but functional. Frustratingly there's a nice bit of quilt on the back of the neck! Mine came with the gigbag, lead, strap and truss/bridge allen keys, score! If any BCers are swinging through the Blackpool area and fancy swapping their RW board for my Maple one then i'd be up for that. I wanted RW but it looks like this is the last available SR bass in the country!

I've offered £22.78 exactly.

You refine your gear searching for THE sound
lemmywinks replied to WalMan's topic in General Discussion
But while musicians are looking for 'their sound',many singers are happy to sing out of their natural range and try and copy others, while never finding 'their voice'. This is particularly evident among the myriad of Whiney/Christina clones who add unnecessary vocal gymnastics on every phrase while singing well beyond their range, and amongst the pop-punk scene where they all put on a faux California accent-even if they are from the depths of Surrey.
Big +1 -
I tried a few before i got one and found the active ash to have the sound i wanted, really snappy but with tons of grunt. The bubinga ones seemed to lack a bit of focus to me. Contrary to Silddx i find the original brass JAN a great design, however you'll most likely be finding Corvettes with the plastic JANII (i think), which will probably have one or both of the plastic sides snapped off. Don't worry about that, doesn't afftect the bass. Just be careful when you change strings! The active ones seem to go for the same prices as passive so go for active. At the prices they go for nowadays it's a no brainer, get a Corvette!

If it arrived like that, yeah. £40 is a 3rd of the initial price so the deal doesn't look quite as sweet with that factored in, especially as it wasn't anything to do with you. Was it couriered? Do you know what's wrong with it, is it the pup or something else? Might be worth posting a hi res pic on here of the control cavity.

Does it come with any cats?

The shop near me has just got a Navy one in along with a few guitars inc the goldtop LP. One thing i noticed is that all the maple board guitars have a cracking bit of wood as the fretboard, every one i've seen has been beautifully figured. Is it the same on the maple boarded Basses?

Have a Google for "ESP 400 series bass", quite a nice bit of kit and not a cheapy by any means. The Jazz ones seem to come up more regularly, if you find one of those that sold that should be a good guide price. Linus on here had one - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18479 Seems like a mid-80s bass? If so it's a proper Japanese ESP, not the Ltd series they put out now. Nice bass!

If you've been using Elixirs then you'll be used to the silky smooth texture, other strings feel rougher. I love Elixirs, even when they go hairy! But yeah, i have never liked Rotos. I don't understand why everyone still buys 'em, must be their incessant advertising campaigns in Total Guitar!

Does the volume push/pull for passive mode? If so does it work passive?

Great stuff, a nice looker and what a bargain too! It's interesting playing a Warwick after a while on F-style basses. I picked up mine again after playing Jazzes for months and it's so hard to put down. The modern Warwick neck shape is the most comfortable for me, if i was ordering a custom bass in i'd take the Warwick neck in and say "copy that!".
The indents were only on the earlier models, for a couple of years, purely a decorative feature. When this bass appears in photos it always looks dark brown however in the flesh in a certain light it can appear almost green. Thanks for the bump.
Yep, same as mine. There's a definite green hue to it, really nice finish i think, this one and the natural finish are my favourite Fortress colours. I actually think the indents make access to the high frets easier, like a cutaway scoop you see on PRS guitars. Must admit i'm quite jealous as yours has it's original wenge neck!

Alex seems to think these are the small, light cabs most capable of handling a 500w amp. "The new Acme Low-B112, the new AudioKinesis TC112, the new Barefaced Big Baby and the barely any older Barefaced Midget. Notice a theme? There may be others too!" Again, not cheap! It's something i've been looking at recently, i use a Superfly with an EA CXL110e (with a Deltalite fitted) which is just about enough for practice. The EA will be joined by another super light 1x10 when i get round to building one so maybe that will be enough. I was wondering if there was a cab available that could do it all on it's own whilst still being tiny and featherweight, there is but i can't afford one! I thought about scoring a Schroeder 1212l as they're not much bigger than a 1x12 (one driver is angled), still a bit more than i have at the moment though.

The story i was told was that MEC were Warwick's in house take on EMG after they didn't want to pay EMG's prices, have no idea if it's true or not. Also everybody else seems to keep prices down, i really can't think of a reason why they're £70 apart from greed. Seriously, i reckon bringing it up on their forum might get you somewhere (a free pot?), especially as you've owned every bass they've ever made at some point.
-
I got one from Promenade Music a while ago, about £10-£15 for a proper one from Warwick. I'd give them a shout. If it's still so expensive then mention it on the Warwick forums, £70 for a pot is beyond belief!

Not that much, i don't think he's done too many interviews to my knowledge. He seems a bit leftfield in the was he creates music i think, which i like. He's put up the odd video on youtube (or someone else has for him), there was one linked here a while ago of him jamming with his new drummer. Tbh i watched the drummer more on that one as he was so good!

Gibson Thunderbird Short Scale - Limited run of 400
lemmywinks replied to farmer61's topic in Bass Guitars
They seem to be about £800, so just wondered how they differ from Standard T-birds apart from 3.5ins neck length.
That is short scale! -
Yeah some of his work is inspired, some of it is a bit too much for me though. Great player and very down to earth. Great taste in basses too!
Is the Sue Ryder bass any better a bass or a base for modification than an Aria STB?
Exactly. The STB i have is spot on, very well built, i paid £45 for it and one has just sold on here for £55. The Ryder is prob better for a neck swap mod as the STB has an irregular neck pocket. However the STB has a good stable neck so it's unlikely you'll want to swap it. I modded my Jazz with a tort plate, bridge and pickup covers and a tug-bar - looks the nuts. The Johnny Brook basses aren't standard size parts i don't think. Someone off here got one for modding and had a nightmare finding parts! I've been on the lookout for a Hohner JJ for modding, standard dimensions and very well built. My fretless has a Mighty Mite neck on and the pocket is tight as a nun's proverbial.
Nigel's fault he did a few videos for me a while back and I haven't been able to get the tone out of my head. Sorry to go OT.
You won't regret it, excellent basses. Does this mean we have to call you waynefunkdude? -
New Warwick Rockbass range - good prices
lemmywinks replied to lemmywinks's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well there won't be any more cheap German Warwicks now that the Corvette is being made in Korea, so German Warwicks will still be a premium (ie £1000+) bass. Making cheap basses that look the part certainly didn't do any harm to Fender! I'm a Warwick owner and i love these new Rockbasses, the things i didn't like about the old ones have been sorted and they look like absolute steals at those prices. Now is the time to snap all those cheap used German Corvettes up, they are going to be more sought after once they are no longer German made -
Having skimmed the 4 pages of this thread, I think IMO some people are unfair on Parcel Force. Probably most couriers have horror story's and I guess most couriers will have a very similar percentages of parcels that get to their destiations undamaged.
Well there ARE good staff who work for PF, we used to use them at work and our local guy was excellent. Lovely bloke who i was dedicated to his job, we always chatted and still do when i see him about. However despite this we had to stop using them as they couldn't deliver on time. We paid for time specific services (9am, 12hr etc.) and they were consistently late. When you pay extra for 24hr delivery and it arrives 3 days later on a number of occaisions. When you ring to get a refund they make it very difficult, basically putting you off trying to claim. Their helpline is awful. We stopped using them and now use TNT who have been great. No late deliveries, no excuses and very helpful staff both in the vans and on the phone. However all that is irrelevant as this is a bass forum and they don't usually insure musical instruments - so there's absolutely no reason why anybody here should be using them. They will take as much money as you throw at them for insurance but your chances of a successful claim are slim. For that reason alone they are of no use to musicians.
