1.
it does actually mean one of the amps is running without anywhere to send its load...doesn't it? Or does the second amp compensate somehow?
Doesn't really matter with solid state gear AFAIK (someone more qualified will no doubt clarify that). You can run it with no cabs attached if you so wish, won't be very loud though!
2. Yep, as David said you can run any cab off either output as long as it doesn't go lower than 4ohms. Keep in mind that if you want any sort of volume with one cab then it needs to be very sensitive, the amps don't have much beef - my Hartke A70 is louder than my Superfly through most single driver 8ohm cabs and that's a 70w combo It's loud enough with my Deltalite loaded EA cxl 110 though and sounds very nice to boot.
3. Ah cool, i played through it last night at moderate volume with the bass up on the eq (just to see how low it could go) and it didn't crap out, i have the day off work tomorrow so will get the opportunity to play for another hour or so With a 4 month old baby in the house i don't get to make as much noise as i used to! Cheers!
4. What a bargain! Now seems to be a good time to buy Hartke gear!
5. No need to apologise marc, totally not your fault as the box was very well packed. I guess it's always one of those things which can happen and I really should have insured it for more but as it stands i'll get the £50 insurance and the driver wasn't much more. Kind of a blessing in disguise really as it's made the cab so light, about a third of the original weight! I still can't believe just how much the original driver weighed when I removed it, the cabinet itself hardly weighs anything!
6. Just a quick update, i got the Deltalite installed in this today and gave it a quick test. Sounds very deep and can go loud for the size of the cab, very clear sound which i'm really chuffed with. Cab is very light too! What would be the best way to bed the driver in? I would like to use this at practice on Thursday and don't want to push it until i'm sure it's ok to do so Cheers for all the help guys, also big props to John at EA (very helpful guy, even when it was clear i wasn't buying the recone kit off them) and great service from Blue Aran who upgraded the courier to next day for no extra charge (still unsure why but not complaining!)
7. ZVex Mastotron and black Russian Muff are the 2 fuzz pedals i really like, the black Big Muffs are variable though I also enjoyed the Blowtorch but found it much less aggressive in a band mix than on it's own, despite the eq and blend options and being 18v
8. That looks nice but a bit more than what i want to spend (i'm incredibly tight btw), i was thinking sort of £40 max, preferably around £30 It's just for practice use, so i can be lazy and leave everything in the bag so i'm good to go. Having a 4 month old baby means i have a lot less time to sort my gear than i used to, couple that with the male baby-brain means i'm bound to forget to pack something sooner or later!
9. Can't find a link for one of those, are they still available? I found these: http://www.wembleyguitarcentre.com/Catalog...Bag-TSTBGEN20UB http://www.omegamusic.co.uk/shop/music-sho...=2979&ref=1 http://www.pianocoversonline.co.uk/gold-series-p-1566.html Not sure if the front pockets are deep or long enough though, the Superfly has feet attached (damn top mounted cab handles!) and it's quite long
10.
Yup. Mains borne interference. That is why TV and Film studios have completely separate power supplies from the National Grid for technical, domestic and lighting. They also have separate earths. You don't want to see vacuum cleaner moter intereference on-air. This is not to say that there can't still be problems. When London Weekend Television's new studio centre (now the London Studios) was installed they had terrible hum problems. This was because of an earth potential difference between them on the South Bank and the Post Office Tower. The hum was temporarily reduced by earthing the whole of the technical equipment through steel plates dropped into the River Thames until some new equipment could be purchased. In your gig siuation where everyone is running from the same supply you are really on a hide into nowhere. What you need is a separate clean supply but as that is highly unlikely the best hope is use some filtering to remove all the cr@p before it gets to your amp or eliminate the DJ.
I bought one of these a while ago: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tacima-CS929-6-Way-M...=item2c58b5a7cc Have no idea if it works as described (i bought it for a specific problem which i later found was unrelated to my mains supply) but it was recommended on here
11. Hi all I've started practicing with a full band again after a short layoff and have recently downsized my practice rig so it's as small and light as i can afford I now need a gigbag with big pockets, needs to fit an Ashdown Superfly with the case removed (same as Little Giant), a pack of strings and instrument/kettle leads. Not too bothered about heavy duty padding as it just goes in the car and up a flight of stairs, basically i'm lazy and want to take just a gigbag and a 5kg mini cab! So is there anything available at lower price points (ie £30+)? Cheers! Steve
12.
Shameless plug but I have a variety of Leatherman left if anyone wants one!
Surely the plural is Leathermen? +1 on the Gramma Pad if you haven't got one, also have a look at the Korg Pitchjack tuner - a really handy jack tuner that plugs into the guitar jack
13. Yeah it's the standard pencil shaped tip. Is there a standard type of tip or do i have to buy a specific one for my soldering iron? As it's a cheapy i assumed the cheapy tips would fit, i could do with a finer one as i have a laptop repair to do next week
14. I was wondering what tips you guys reccommend for soldering basic guitar stuff? I've been using a cheap 40w solder station with the stock tip, this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Solder-Station-40W-F...=item3362fbad36 (I bought that one because we used similar ones at school many moons ago)
15. Excellent work, that looks stunning!
16. Ah great, i really like strong mids, as i'll most likely be using it with the Superfly i can eq out anything i don't like. Goods news that the driver is a good choice for the cab, i'll be putting an order in at Blue Aran then! Interparcel won't pay out until i show a receipt for replacement goods so i'll have to buy it first
17. Just a quick question. I messaged John at EA about fitting the Eminence and he had this to say: "The Deltalite will fit in the CxL-110 cabinet in terms of Cabinet tuning but the voicing has a rising response from 1.3KHz to 2.5KHz about a 6 dB rise." What does this mean in laymans terms? Ta!
18. Two Schroeder cabs, 4ohms each? My mate replaced his 8x10 fridge with a 410L and a 1212L (SVT-4 Pro head) and is really happy with them
19.
This looks quite interesting, although, not just a poweramp though, and I can't see an effects loop, so I guess can't be used as one: - http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba500h.htm
They were also listed on Gear4Music as the White Horse BT500H for £219, i was looking into one to replace the Superfly but they're not available now There was a thread about them on Talkbass (edit: was actually finnbass), looked quite interesting
20.
Bargain instruments are just the best! I use SX basses all bought from here, and they are exceptional instruments for the money. I think a lot of people are beginning to wise up to the fact that cheap, doesn't necessarily mean crap
I'm still using the Aria Jazz i bought for £45, it's ace! My lodger decided to take up guitar again last year and i looked for eBay bargains locally. After 2 minutes of searching we found a whole package comprising of an Aria strat (with a tappable bridge humbucker), Kuston 10w amp, gigbag, strap and lead - all for £50! Drove down the road and bought it that day After a new set of 9s the guitar is amazing, one of the best guitars i've played. It hadn't been played for years but the intonation was spot on and it's incredibly easy to play. Everyone who's played it comments on how nice it is
21.
Thats an excellent price! Where can I find these sub £100 bargains?!
I got the Westfield from eBay and it was pickup only. Just run a search for bass, nearest first. Pretty much all my major eBay purchases are pickup only now. Also if you're local paper has a free ads section (mine has a pullout every Tuesday)
22. Good score, looks great in the green stain methinks! I picked up a Westfield 2 tone sunburst Precision with gigbag, strap and tuner for £50 a few months ago, bought it for parts but ended up playing it for a bit and selling it. Very well made and sounded great, i've been on the lookout for the Jazz version since as you can never have too many jazz basses!
23. Aye take it to a decent luthier, the Gallery gets props on here all the time Also name and shame the dodgy guitar shop!
24. The crossover would be bypassed if i stick with a replacement neo speaker as the tweeter is on the back of the original driver, not mounted on the front of the cab like you'd expect The reason i was interested in an Eminence unit was because of the guy from TB, he said it gave a really clear, crisp sound which is what i'm after. The Celestion i have in there at the moment is a very poky low-mid sound, much like my Schroeder, which is great but i wanted something a little more hifi (even though i hate using that phrase!) Basically i want something which suits the cab and, being completely clueless about this sort of thing, figured if someone else had done it and it worked then there might be a good chance of me not cocking it up!
