1. That looks fantastic Rich, got a bargain there!
  2. It has a fog and siren alert so you should definitely try to gig it! Doesn't look particularly useful, what's it's actual intended purpose? It says auto/marine in the link
  3.
Am I the only one who has no idea who she is?
Nope!
  4. Asking a mod to move it to the for sale section might be an idea too! Also get some pics up, it'l sell a lot quicker i reckon!
  5. Bump for a mate, anyone interested in this should have no worries dealing with Shim, he's what my nan would call "a decent young man"
  6.
C'mon Pete, the washing up doesn't do itself you know
7. They did do a guitar version too, looks legit to me
  8.
Ignorant troglodyte - someone should send him a link to this thread. Watching. Jon.
He'd have to join first so that would backfire! On the other hand he might learn how to use eBay properly and realise that the watch function isn't just there to taunt him
  9. Just noticed this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-SQUIER-PRECIS...=item27b6553f8c The seller is a member on here (same name) so maybe give him a shout? That plus a P neck would be sweet!
  10. Whereabouts are you? You may have a good luthier nearby The Gallery have a great reputation for defrets and charge £90 which is very reasonable given it's the Sei Bass workshop: http://www.thebassgallery.com/workshop.cfm If you can get the bass down there then that's a no-brainer.
  11.
I've seen your RIM!
12.
It's an Improvment on the original shape.
+1 To be fair if you're in the market for a Katana bass you shouldn't be too bothered by an oddly shaped lump with bits sawn off!
  13.
Generally would say natural, but not a huge fan of fancy figuring/splatting/quilting etc, and do like stains on occasion!
Thats kinda what i like. Funny thing is i find myself drooling over all the fancy spalts etc. in the builds section but having absolutely no desire to own them. The basses i usually GAS over are quite plain by comparison, the Zoot is the most "fancy" bass i own but that's still a very simple ebony top I think Silddx needs to get the sandpaper out on his Chris Squire bass and give it a nice mahogany stain!
  14. A Mighty Mite fretless neck should fit a Squier, you'll get a decent amount for the original neck too as Jazz necks are popular I have an unlined ebonol one on a bass and it's really nice. Alternatively have a Precision defretted, shouldn't cost too much. You could get a Squier. MIM or possible a Japanese one for your budget Oh and Jaco did have a P neck on his fretted, he used it for practice - probably so he was faster when he went back to his fretless!
  15.
So why did householders in the '60s and '70s paint all their wood and nail hardboard over their Victorian wood panel doors then?
Because they had no taste!
  16. Hmmm. I like natural finishes because i think a nicely grained bit of wood is nice to look at, that's it. It doesn't make me feel closer to the instrument, nor does it make my playing any more "natural". I like it for exactly the same reasons you like painted basses - the appearance To me it's much less flashy than a painted bass, don't even get me started on white basses! Bloody 80s yuppies!

    Which Chorus?

I liked the Small Stone, very good pedal and can be had for around £30 used. My favourite chorus is the Stereo Electric Mistress, sounds beautiful with a fretless. I sold mine and regretted it straight away so i had to buy another! Expect to pay about £55 - £60 used though That Neo Clone Sk8 has for sale looks good too
  18.
Never knew about the OBBM but I have made up plenty of identical cables with Neutrics Silents and Vandamme cable and can only do it the same cost (and its my soldering as opposed to by someone who knows what they are doing!). Cables using these components are very reliable, sound perfect and robust. Use OBBM, they are doing it for what would be cost to you an me.
Aye obbm stuff is only marginally more expensive than making your own unless you buy in bulk or get a cheap deal I managed to pick up a bag of Neutrik connectors a while ago for a few quid so i make my own now. Once they're gone (why is it that as soon as folk find out you have them they suddenly need cables making up?) i'll get some more obbm stuff It's worth keeping an eye out in the FS section as occaisionally there's cable/connectors going cheap there
  19. Great price, shouldn't be on sale for long i reckon! If i lived closer i'd be tempted to buy it just because it's so cheap!
  20.
Where does a warwick have extra to rest your thumb? Edge of the pickup for me on the Rays the Jazz and the P bass plus all of those have a pickguard that can also be used for an anchor in various places where to my knowledge the warwicks do not? Finding something that appeals to you is key but if you like chilis and RATM there is a direction worth exploring first at least and trying against others in a shop. Some smaller people dont like Rays and find them a bit big which is odd because its the same as a P and smaller than a Jazz? On the other hand some larger people dont like warwicks and smaller bodied stuff like Ibanez because they look small on them like Alice in wonderland or something. I do like some of the G&L stuff so +1 to trying that avenue.
On the neck pup! For me that's the most comfortable and versatile place - it's where my thumb mainly stays, as the OP has a Jazz he'll probably have the same issues if he plays fingerstyle. I don't find MM basses a struggle, just that they're not as comfortable as other basses i own. The arwick fits much more snugly around my beer gut!
  21.
Simple. End off
Wouldn't say it's that simple! I love Chilis and RATM but really don't get on with Rays, i found them cumbersome and there's nowhere sensible to mount my thumb! I eventually found a bass that did the Flea and TimC sounds in a Warwick Corvette. To this day i've never played a bass that is as good for that agressive funk-rock sound. The OP may get the sound he's looking for from many different basses, Rays being one of them. They should definitely be on the shortlist, as should Warwicks, G&L, Ibanez, Fender etc. Basically go into a few shops and try loads of basses out, find out what suits you. I played a Cort the other day that sounded great and would definitely do the sounds you're after
  22.
I think you might have your red\black and white wires the wrong way round. Take a look at this: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...c=std_jazz_bass This would make the white wires hot and the red and black ones not (as they're soldered to the pot casing). HTH
That's how they are soldered, as in the diagram in my first post. In fact i used that SD link when i originally wired them up! I tried reversing them just in case and still nothing I'll do a full rewire with new wire and hook each pot up to a jack individually first to test. As i said the bridge vol and tone pots are functioning normally and i've swapped the whole neck vol pot and wires for another set but still nowt! The pup definitely works too! The neck pup is a Kent Armstrong btw, not sure about the bridge unit
  23. The bridge vol and tone are behaving now, i've rewired it and they function as normal. However the neck vol is still dead. I wired in a different pot and got the same result so i'm giving up tonight. I'll have a beer and figure it out in the morning! Cheers for the help Rich!
  24.
A bass has 4 strings. What you've got there is a sitar
Or, with a quick tweak of the truss rod, a harp!
