I'm now being asked to consider adding some effects for songs like Foreigner's Don't stop believin', and to give more depth and variation between songs like Black Velvet and, say, Play that funky music.
Not really songs that require bass effects i don't think. Maybe they mean a slightly different sound? Black Velvet is played on a fretless IIRC so maybe adapt your technique to compensate a little, with practice it's possible to get a decent fretless impression on fretted. Other than that maybe an eq pedal to switch a different sound in at convenient moments? Boss and MXR do well built eq pedals. I use an MXR M80 for a bit of overdrive and a seperate 3 band switchable eq, the Aphex Xciter is also a handy pedal for tone shaping. Both of those have a DI out too btw
+1 1/4" jack outputs (especially when I only pack the speakon cable).
+1 although i do like those speakons with th jack socket in the middle, handy if you forget your leads and have to borrow

The "ON" switch on an Ashdown......
Are the wee clip on ones any good?? How do they work anyway?
Not really, they work off vibrations so you need good contact with the bass. Some headstocks suit them better than others, however a lot won't pick up a low E consistently which makes them less useful for bass players I have a little Seiko keyring tuner like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEIKO-CHROMATIC-ST01...0d46ea4feaa5b9e Surprisingly accurate and works off a little mic so will tune anything. Also really handy as it's a keyring!
A lot of the time, certainly since the late 70s, he's played John Birch & Jaydee SGs, not Gibsons.
I never knew that! There's also the old story of Joe Perry being presented with a choice of his signature models and not finding a single good one. Also Slash played a luthier-made "Gibson" for most of his career IIRC? Here's an interesting article that's been linked on here before: http://www.dinosaurrockguitar.com/new/node/240 I have a good mate who plays Gibsons purely based on the two guitarists mentioned above, even though he can't really afford to. I haven't the heart to link him to that article, let alone tell him that the guitar he owns (and paid a nice lump of money for) is an absolute dog!

A bit OTT for me. Still, handy if you're in a Judas Priest tribute band.....
Once it stops being fun, move on.
Another +1 on this. Some of the best nights out i've had have been playing in a group where everyone gets on and has a laugh. I've been in bands before where there's arguments and egos, definitely not doing it again

Cort Curbow? Very small composite body with quality electronics (Mighty Mite & Bartolini), £300 new or well under £200 used.
Cheap basses.... I love 'em too! Recently bought this for £20! 70's Kimbara (produced by Matsumoku). Lovely neck to play, good tone & suprisingly not plywood body - very happy with it.
That's gorgeous! Good score bud!

Keep an eye out for a used Bacchus, they go for your budget. They're not much more than that used either and i've never heard a bad word about them. Very handsome basses Give funkydario a shout in the affiliates market, he might have something!

I especially like the comment by a Geddy Lee fan: "Go on YouTube and pull up a live Rush video and try to compare anyone else to the best bass player Geddy Lee - he plays more notes in a song than half these people in a whole record." Apparently more notes = better music! Still at least Phil Lynott was ahead of Mark King, they at least got something right!

All that list proves is that Dream Theater fans spend the most time taking part in internet polls. Besides, Carol Kaye should be top of the list, she invented bass playing.
beautiful jazz bass there maxrossell. all black - just the way a good jazz should be.
It's actually the Walnut Satin finish, albeit a very dark one, unless Max has done a refin. The pics make it look a bit darker than it actually is

See if this is still for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=tokai+fretless I had serious GAS for that when it was posted! I wouldn't worry about lined/unlined, it's not really any more difficult in the lower registers and an unlined bass looks so much nicer! -
If it's a laptop then you'll need a decent USB interface for recording. The Tascam ones go for about £50 used and they're a good bet, they have XLR and jack inputs which is a bonus. I use an old MAudio one which is brilliant, bought for a snip on here and is much better than my laptop's sound card. Honestly for the price of the Maplins one you could get something better used The eBay one and the Behringer are probably the same unit, just one is sold by a UK reseller at a marked up price. Nowadays with eBay and Chinese/HK wholeseller sites (chinavision etc.) it's not uncommon to see rebadged versions of devices selling for a tiny percentage of the prices at Maplins/Radioshack etc.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section But I was thinking of buying one today . Does anyone have any experience of these Guitar interface Does it work with passive pickups or would I have to boost the signal through an amp first ? Does it work with a bass guitar as well ( either active or passive ) ? Can I plug a microphone into it as ? Is it worth the money or should I look at something else TBH all I really want to do is record a few chords to play bass lines over. Cheers
There's similar ones on eBay for a fraction of that price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Guitar-USB-Inter...=item4152c7565e Never used them but i at the above price it's worth trying. If you have £50+ to spend you might be better off looking out for a used Line 6 Guitar Port, they're actually really good for the price. I plugged a SUB4 into my mates' and got some killer bass distortion from some of the models

I have an old Ozark which i play regularly, been playing it tonight in fact! They're quiet and most are a bit lacking in low end. My mate has a Samick which is really loud and bassy though, nice lookng bass too I defretted mine a while ago and i'm really glad i did. Got the action much lower and it does a nice db impression, especially plugged in

To the OP: Total up how much your gear would cost to replace, divide that by the amount of bass players wanting to gig it on the night. Ask each bass player for that amount in advance as a refundable deposit, if they don't agree then they bring their own amp, simple as that. If your amp is ok at the end of the night then refund each bassist their deposit. If not keep the lot and buy new kit, let them squabble amongst themselves as to who broke it. This really isn't your responsibility, you've been burned before and paid the price. If a promoter won't let you gig unless you wipe the @rse of every travelling bassist who can't be bothered to actually bring their own equipment then find somewhere else to gig. That's what i'd do!

/\ /\ That's pretty much it. The bass looks fantastic but the two main components, the neck and body, are still unknown origin. It definitely doesn't look like a cheap bass (far from it) but folks are always going to be hesitant about dropping that much on a parts bass, especially one where the body wood isn't immediately visible £450 will bag a Japanese Fender easy on the used market so it's understandable that this may not sell in a week. You may need to be very patient to sell this for a deserving price. See the following thread for evidence of this!
Well i think i may be well on the look out for a LMII. It would go perfect for a mini rig with my 112. How would anyone rate the LM 250? Think those 250watts are LOUD watts? I dont think that'd be enough power though! If i get an oppertunity in the near future i will be grabbing a 1210L! And once again the LM would be perfect!
With a good cab the wattage rating isn't that important, a few folk on here use the LM250. The actual different in decibels won't be that much (watts don't equal volume!) I've used one side of my Superfly (250w @ 4ohms) with my 1212r and it was fine
For my price range (well quite abit under actually!) are ther LH500 and the little giant 1000 (£250!!??), theres also a new amp from Bugera. But for sheer power to size ratio the little giant is even cheaper to! Anyone compared this to a LMII? Obviously the LM would be the choice but the little giant is one of the cheapest mini heads out there (worth buying anyway!)
I'd say save an extra £120 or so and get a used LMII over an Ashdown mini head. Bugeras are Behringhers aren't they? From reports on here the LG series sound a bit underpowered, something about a weak pre section was floating about a while ago. I reckon the sensitive Schro's would make a good job of it though Also the LG1000 needs 2 x 4ohm loads to get full output, with a single 4ohm Schroeder cab you'd get 500w. And going off reports that's a significantly quieter 500w than the LMII
