See if this is still for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=tokai+fretless I had serious GAS for that when it was posted! I wouldn't worry about lined/unlined, it's not really any more difficult in the lower registers and an unlined bass looks so much nicer! -
If it's a laptop then you'll need a decent USB interface for recording. The Tascam ones go for about £50 used and they're a good bet, they have XLR and jack inputs which is a bonus. I use an old MAudio one which is brilliant, bought for a snip on here and is much better than my laptop's sound card. Honestly for the price of the Maplins one you could get something better used The eBay one and the Behringer are probably the same unit, just one is sold by a UK reseller at a marked up price. Nowadays with eBay and Chinese/HK wholeseller sites (chinavision etc.) it's not uncommon to see rebadged versions of devices selling for a tiny percentage of the prices at Maplins/Radioshack etc.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section But I was thinking of buying one today . Does anyone have any experience of these Guitar interface Does it work with passive pickups or would I have to boost the signal through an amp first ? Does it work with a bass guitar as well ( either active or passive ) ? Can I plug a microphone into it as ? Is it worth the money or should I look at something else TBH all I really want to do is record a few chords to play bass lines over. Cheers
There's similar ones on eBay for a fraction of that price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Guitar-USB-Inter...=item4152c7565e Never used them but i at the above price it's worth trying. If you have £50+ to spend you might be better off looking out for a used Line 6 Guitar Port, they're actually really good for the price. I plugged a SUB4 into my mates' and got some killer bass distortion from some of the models

I have an old Ozark which i play regularly, been playing it tonight in fact! They're quiet and most are a bit lacking in low end. My mate has a Samick which is really loud and bassy though, nice lookng bass too I defretted mine a while ago and i'm really glad i did. Got the action much lower and it does a nice db impression, especially plugged in

To the OP: Total up how much your gear would cost to replace, divide that by the amount of bass players wanting to gig it on the night. Ask each bass player for that amount in advance as a refundable deposit, if they don't agree then they bring their own amp, simple as that. If your amp is ok at the end of the night then refund each bassist their deposit. If not keep the lot and buy new kit, let them squabble amongst themselves as to who broke it. This really isn't your responsibility, you've been burned before and paid the price. If a promoter won't let you gig unless you wipe the @rse of every travelling bassist who can't be bothered to actually bring their own equipment then find somewhere else to gig. That's what i'd do!

/\ /\ That's pretty much it. The bass looks fantastic but the two main components, the neck and body, are still unknown origin. It definitely doesn't look like a cheap bass (far from it) but folks are always going to be hesitant about dropping that much on a parts bass, especially one where the body wood isn't immediately visible £450 will bag a Japanese Fender easy on the used market so it's understandable that this may not sell in a week. You may need to be very patient to sell this for a deserving price. See the following thread for evidence of this!
Well i think i may be well on the look out for a LMII. It would go perfect for a mini rig with my 112. How would anyone rate the LM 250? Think those 250watts are LOUD watts? I dont think that'd be enough power though! If i get an oppertunity in the near future i will be grabbing a 1210L! And once again the LM would be perfect!
With a good cab the wattage rating isn't that important, a few folk on here use the LM250. The actual different in decibels won't be that much (watts don't equal volume!) I've used one side of my Superfly (250w @ 4ohms) with my 1212r and it was fine
For my price range (well quite abit under actually!) are ther LH500 and the little giant 1000 (£250!!??), theres also a new amp from Bugera. But for sheer power to size ratio the little giant is even cheaper to! Anyone compared this to a LMII? Obviously the LM would be the choice but the little giant is one of the cheapest mini heads out there (worth buying anyway!)
I'd say save an extra £120 or so and get a used LMII over an Ashdown mini head. Bugeras are Behringhers aren't they? From reports on here the LG series sound a bit underpowered, something about a weak pre section was floating about a while ago. I reckon the sensitive Schro's would make a good job of it though Also the LG1000 needs 2 x 4ohm loads to get full output, with a single 4ohm Schroeder cab you'd get 500w. And going off reports that's a significantly quieter 500w than the LMII
-
I use a LMII with the 1212r in conjunction with an MXR M80 for an eq/volume boost, works very well for fingerstyle and slap. I've heard a few people on here say a LMII is a really good head for the 1212 cabs

Just in case anybody who isn't going really wanted to, here's a quick summary of what the gig will be like: Clackety clackety, clickety clackety, clackety clack, clickerty clack. <lame singing> Clickety clackety clack, clackety click <lame singing> Clickety clickety clack, clackety clack, clackety clack, clickety clack <more lame singing> Lights go up -
IMO Andy Fairweather Lowe's "solo" was far more interesting and inventive then the recycled blues licks paraded by the other two guitarists.
Was just about to say that. Every time i've seen RW i love it when Andy FL lets rip, first time he did windmills and everything! RE The Bass, i'd prefer the Sunburst Precision he used to use, that's the Fender bass he's known for playing
Thing is, originals bands might not be motivated by showing off to an audience, or by making money for themselves or someone else. The more those are the motivation, the less likely I am to enjoy their music. So yes, bands that are aiming for audiences and money are killing music, because music I don't like is dead to me. In fact, when I'm at a gig, and there is a vast crowd of adoring fans, it totally annoys me, I'd rather be among very few people, so aiming for a crowd also kills my enjoyment of live music.
Just because you disagree with their motives (however right or wrong you may be about them) doesn't mean they are "killing music" - such an idiotic phrase which is why it's in inverted commas For most covers bands i know the motivation is pretty much just being able to get out there and play, they make a bit of beer money which they will most likely spend on beer and cab fare. Is a band that just wants to play a gig totally dead to you? If there was a band playing covers of music you really liked and doing a really good job of it would you stop to listen?
-
playing covers doesn't make you a lesser bass player at all. you are all probably much better than me I just think covers bands may have their place at weddings or the like but it's not why i started playing bass........I certainly believe that covers bands take work away from originals bands and believe that that is bad for music ergo covers bands are bad for music. I disapprove.
So if there were no covers bands then every pub would be full of adoring crowds dancing away to originals bands? Really? If originals bands aren't pulling a crowd then they should improve and promote themselves. It takes more work for an originals band to build a crowd as before you get them to come to a gig nobody gives a sh1t about you. There is no built in audience, and that audience is usually a totally different one from the covers scene What i don't understand is the whining - "you're killing music" blah blah blah. It's been done here before and every time has been shown to be a huge logical fallacy Believe it or not some people will go to a pub on a weekend whether there's a band on or not, if they are hearing music they like played by a good band then they're likely to come back, spend more money etc. Btw the covers scene and originals scene where i live is pretty dire, many venues make more money when they have no band on at all. Do you hear me whining that "DJs have killed music"? No. Accept it, move on, play to your audience
-
But also I think it's much harder for new originals bands now because too many bands play covers and too many venues think they want covers........covers bands are killing music!! Sorry
Erm, nope.....
You really believe that's the only alternative? I know some great covers bands who play pretty unusual stuff to rapturous audiences. In fact, what they're doing is widening the audiences' musical horizons.
+1 I played some excellent songs (Police, Stevie Wonder, Queen...) whilst in the covers band, we flat out refused to play cheese rock. In fact with our last guitarist we went for the funkier stuff which suited me fine I remember depping for a mate and having to play Summer of 69. Euugghh.... Still makes me shudder

I liked the money, free beer/food, meeting loads of new people and contacts, being able to get a better understanding of PA, having a van to use, being put up in sw***y hotels for weddings and getting paid for it, going to other people's parties and getting paid for it, loads of reasons! All my gear has paid for itself, plus i am a much faster learner and have a more developed ear Probably the best thing is having a great night out and coming home with a big wad of cash in your pocket

Cheers for that Beedster! Next time you're up north feel free to come and clean the bits of sick from in between the keys on my laptop

THE worst (bass related) feeling in the world
I can see that case from where I'm sitting right now It still does a very nice job, and from most angles you can't even tell.
Aye, still works fine too! I seriously expected to be greeted with a very poorly Warwick when i opened it up but the case took all the punishment and still remained usable. I think our singer was just as worried as me as he knew my Warwick was in there and it was his fault -
THE worst (bass related) feeling in the world
lemmywinks replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
The one time i let our singer load my bass in the van he left it propped up against the side door and forgot about it. When the van (long wheel based LDV high-top, fully loaded with 4 blokes in) set off it slipped under the wheels and made an nice crunching/scraping sound The case was badly damaged but the bass (my old Streamer) was fine, not a single scratch. Would definitely buy a cheap Thomann ABS case again! -
What do you keep at work that helps your craving?

Here are mine What are yours?
Can i come and work for you? It would be a very bad idea for me to have a bass at work, every time i get one delivered here i spend all day noodling on it and get bugger all done. -
