See, it's a great idea!

My amazing and totally infallible idea is a drum kit with quick release rims that can be stored/transported like Russian dolls. I mention this to drummers every time I help them carry their kit but they just look at me like I'm a total moron.

Still might buy one tho...

I've seen those, they look a lot like the Sire ones. Have you tried one?

Ibanez PNB14E electro acoustic bass £100 - *SOLD*

Little passive unit, takes one of the little mini jack piezo inputs so solder free as well. New sticky pad on the cable clip, comes with screws.

I'd just get on AliExpress and search "waterproof hard case" tbh, most of the cheaper generic rugged cases are just rebadged imports. You'll be shocked at how cheap they are if you buy them from China yourself. Just measure up the internal dimensions you need and spend a bit of time searching. If you find one with crazy postage then just keep looking, will likely be free with a different seller. Case E here has an inner size of 40cm x 15.5cm x 10cm if that's enough height for you and will be around £17 delivered after taxes: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004953007925.html

Ouch. I think we have to just accept that all our larger online stores here are just box shifters, no new goods are going to be checked and end of line clearance sales are basically customer returns. The idea of ordering a few and keeping the best one is sound IMO, online retailers have basically brought this on themselves.

Fretless acoustic bass with coated nylons is such a great sound. When I took those horrible bronze clangy things off my acoustic, defretted it and stuck a set of nylon coated strings on it was an "ahhh, that's what acoustic basses are for" moment. Great score for £40 as well.

Question John East J-tone 2 band EQ preamp in overwater J-Bass
lemmywinks replied to RSV60's topic in Repairs and Technical
If there needs to be a piece of card pushing against something for it to make a good contact then tt's probably just a solder joint that needs reflowing. Take the card out and lightly push against different components to see what makes a difference, starting with that capacitor then the pickup trim pots as they would be most affected by the card/tape bodge. Probably still worth messaging John East to see what he says. -
Been in storage for years now, 4 black case latches with screws. Unused but somehow worn, natural relic finish I guess. Have loads of fun building yourself a box or something, I dunno. Can't even remember why I bought them.

I had a wedding gig well over 15 years ago in a more rural part of Wales, no phone signal and this was before wifi was commonplace. The DJ turned up (late) with just his laptop expecting to be able to remotely stream or download his set from his home server over our PA, then started panicking when he realised the hotel had no wifi and you could just about get enough signal to send/receive a text if you stood in a precise area of the car park about 1.5m square. He was asking around for CDs, surprisingly none of the wedding guests had any and our old LDV van still only had a tape deck so he ended up just playing the new (at the time) Madonna album on repeat as that's all he had in his car. Wasn't a cheap do either, they'd paid to put the band up for two nights in the hotel and it was a good money gig to begin with. I'm lazy and complacent but there's levels to this game and this guy was the pound for pound champion.

Bought a Cort GB Modern 5 from MNY, nice bloke!
-
4th time lucky, got a used bass courtesy of @MNY who was working just a 15 minute drive from me. Very happy with it, now just have to get some work done instead of sitting in my office playing bass all day. Excuse the awful pictures.

There's plenty of single cab solutions on the used market for under £400. I had the same issue as you, just needed a compact one hand carry cab for rehearsals as the provided equipment was inconsistent, plus our regular rehearsal space has extra gear in a storage room and to get to a decent cab I'd have to shift tons of heavy gear out of the way (had to lift two old Trace cabs and an two ancient power amps with their own centre of gravity last time) which defeats the object! Ended up with a PJB C8L off here for £360. There's a couple of Epifani cabs in the classifieds for under £200 each, also a Markbass 2x10 for £245.

Get some copper tape and shield the cavity, make sure you link the bridge ground to it. Don't need to buy the expensive stuff, can get 5m off AliExpress for about £3.50 which works fine.

Cort haven't built basses in Korea for years now, the singlecut will be Indonesian. TBh I've had a ton of Cort built basses and they've never been anything other than excellent, even the ones with the licensed Bart MkI electronics were very well put together and just needed a decent preamp. Plenty of people bought the guitar guitar clearance basses early on (they've been on sale for a while now) and had no issues, I think the basses I've had are the dregs of their stock and are mainly customer returns. So basically you're getting the basses which other people haven't found to be acceptable. Couple that with a shop that don't really care about what they send out and you'll get some duds.
