A Superfly isn't a great option if you don't want an unreliable amp though! There's also a pretty lame input section on those too, much like the LG. Used LMII all the way, only about £100 more I read on one of the threads that putting a boost in the effects loop cures the problem with the weak gain section, not exactly a portable rig then though i suppose

Yep, my obbm leads are still good as new. No-nonsense quality at the right price IMO

Yep still here! -
Here's the UK distributors: http://www.samick.co.kr/eu/about/dealers.php

Close up it looks like a bad job IMO, plus the headstock looks awful. I'd bag it for a tenner though!

Quite a good cover for when the missus catches you buying basses again. "Just gay porn again dear, nothing to worry about"
Because it bleeds acid when you cut it.
Definitely not bidding now, new couch arrives soon and the missus would kill me!

Makes total sense, why wouldn't a butchered cheapy be worth £500+?
Here's the one I found dude >. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzal2VXmpQ4 I've spoken to a few guys on ta**bass too and they've confirmed that the Genz is very HiFi and sterile, while the Promethean is more MarkBass'y, still fairly transparent, but a bit more organic. They've also said the little 10" Ibanez combo pumps out more low end than the 12" MarkBass Combo... Eude
The extension cab for the Ibanez is quite cheap too, certainly the cheapest of the mini lightweight 1x10 cabs AFAIK

HELP: Making an EUB sound more like an upright?
lemmywinks replied to Beedster's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I read somewhere about using foam/rubber under the strings near the bridge to dampen the sound. I cut out a big chunk of foam for my Stagg and shaped it accordingly as there's far too much sustain without it. Definitely helped get more of a thuddy sound with a more suitable decay -
Apart from getting my gig bags there, must admit I've not had a lot to do with that shop. Somehow I can't see that changing...
I buy the odd thing there, including my acoustic guitar which was in the clearance sale (so same as online prices!). They have a very good reputation for setups but again are very expensive. I got a quote of well over £100 for a simple pickup and pre installation a few years ago, not including the £60 bench fee! There was a bit of routing for a battery box but that's still a stupid amount
Hmm, what does that say about me? Since I started having what I am assured is my mid-life crisis, all I've bought (and am considering buying in the not too distant future) are Squiers... Maybe I should pay a visit to Fr*ts, if that is indeed the shop of which you speak...
Ah but you're obviously more bothered about having a guitar to play, rather than having something to look at. The only PRS guitars i've seen people actually gigging are the standard ones. FWIW i totally GAS over Squiers too, it's frighteing that they're so cheap! Oh and yeah, that is the shop! I asked the owner what they were having upstairs (during the re-fit) and he said "more expensive, bespoke guitars". There's some nice gear in there but the prices are horrific. I got quoted nearly £800 for a Warwick when everywhere else was selling them at £600. A few years ago I also asked the younger fella about a used MIA Jazz they had and was told it was £700, went in for another play the next day and it had jumped £50!
Translucent teal finish, flamed maple top, gold hardware, it's got pretty much everything a rich middle-aged guitar buyer could wish for.
That's exactly it. Funny you never see people actually gigging these. There's a shop near me which shifted it's focus away from standard instruments and dedicated an entire upper floor to these mid-life crisis guitars. They're doing pretty well so obviously there must be quite a lot of over-paid dads with too much time on their hands where i live.
How exactly do we divide this up in to 62 million pieces?
Smashy Smashy!

Best reasonably priced fretted ibanez to defret?
lemmywinks replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Should be no different to any other bass i presume. D-basser did quite a nice job on this one, lovely danish oil finish too: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=91057 You doing it yourself or getting a luthier to do it? You are aware that there's 2 Squier VM fretlesses for sale on here at the moment?

Sweet! The new Hartke cabs look great. I've always had a soft spot for Hartke gear as my first big rigs were Hartke, so much amp for the money too. Big full range sound and look the business too
-
I'd do as OG said and just use the cheapy combo you got for everybody, if the in-house PA is up to scratch it'd make the night a bit easier/ On the positive side you've spent a small amount (£30) on a combo that will give you peace of mind and you can use it for practices and small gigs. What combo did you get btw?
You're giving yourself all this grief to play in a venue that holds 50 people? F*** that, it's never worth it.
+1 Is this just a pub? If so i'd like to know where they get the figure of £280 from. I thought we were on about a dedicated venue/club!

Anybody know of a particularly loud acoustic bass?
lemmywinks replied to bumfrog's topic in General Discussion
The Washburn ones are very loud for an acoustic bass and not too pricey. Quite a bit of low end too. -
I was playing at bar music hall in london the bloody guitarist put his bear on the edge of his amp, the problem was my EBS cab amd MarkBass head was right behind. I got up on stage and told him to move it, as I couldn't put my cab anywhere esle. It costs nothing to be "rude" and say move it, but it will cost you a grand or more to replace it if you're polite
Fupping hell, if someone put a bear next to my amp i'd tell them to move it too!
I have to say, I'm with Rmshaw on this, expensive gear should be able to stand abuse. I was running my GK 700RB-II through one 210RBH and it was struggling, if it had only ever been me using it, I would've dealt with it but to make sure for a) when we didn't have a PA and when other people used it, I got another 210RBH. That being said, with the 2nd 2x10, it's so loud that your head would probably explode before the amp did.
That's not really abuse though, that's just not being loud enough. You can blow an amp no matter how many speakers you have or what the power handling is. By abuse i mean people who have no clue how to use gear and ignore any guidance they might have been given. Like i said before, the clown who used a rig of mine turned the input gain up so it was permenantly clipping and the speakers were distorting when all he needed to do was move the cab and/or eq differently. Probably heard his guitarist talking about driving the input stage for a better rock tone and thought he'd follow suit. Also unplugging a bass and throwing the lead on the floor was probably fine with his little 15w bedroom combo, not so great with a 500w stack. It's weird the sense of entitlement some people get when they're using a bigger amp than their own, like it should be able to handle silly levels and put up with all kinds of nonsense. I'm pretty sure some of the people who used my stack cranked it just for the sake of it!
Good point. But the issue here is some other bass players generally dont know what theyre doing and can, not always, misuse gear. ie running the gain way too high, putting drinks on top of the vents on te amp etc. My gear can take being played hard, but ive set it up cos i know what im doing. But I dont trust an inexperience, arrogant gimp from an indie band to have the same approach. Again, you raise a very good point, but its the potential damage from some bass players out there who think every one else will provide gear for them. Dan
That's pretty much it for me. Lots of my gear is currently out on loan to various players. My amp, cab, leads and Gramma pad are being gigged by a mate who i know will look after it. He's loving using it and it's giving him more of an idea about what he wants when he upgrades his Crashdown in the next few weeks. Certainly much more than blasting through a rig in a shop for 10 minutes Similarly one of my Warwicks is currently with a forumite (until i can be @rsed to pick it up!), i know it's in safe hands and i'm not using it at the moment. On the other hand i let a kid use my old rig a couple of years ago, he didn't have a clue what the clipping light was for and thought nothing of yanking the jack lead out of his bass and throwing it on the floor, causing a horrible pop sound and then the following loud hum. That's why i don't lend gear to people i don't know. The OP learnt the hard way unfortunately, he's now £900 out of pocket just because he felt generous towards a fellow musician
can i just add that with these thousands of pounds worth of gear, does it not withstand abuse? thousands of pounds mis spent to me! with all the wattage available you'd be deaf before the amp blew!
You wouldn't test drive a Ferrari and crash it into a brick wall, abuse is abuse. Spending more money on gear can make it sound better, be lighter, better built, more features etc. What it can't do is protect against some numpty who thinks turning the volume, gain and bass up to the maximum will make him look more rock than anyone else

Don't do it if you don't want to. It's your choice, not an obligation. As you've had almost a grand's worth of kit broken before it's pretty obvious why you're uncomfrotable and justifiably so. Maybe drop the other bands an email explaining the situation and why you don't lend gear out, if they get shirty then they're d1cks
