Nail varnish? Cheap and readily available I've seen this used before with surprisingly good results

I think there are vastly different sounding black Russian muffs, going by what people say about them. Mine has tons of low end and is the best sounding muff i've had, if not the most practical due to powering issues and the size of the thing. I modded it to accept a boss-style plug but still have to use a polarity reverse cable as it's C+ve, i think you still have to use a seperate power supply due to earthing issues? I use a ZVex Mastotron as it still has the great sound and retains bass but is about a 3rd of the size

In fact there's a thread on there about putting an Aguilar OBP-3 into a 'wick: http://forum.warwick.de/10-warwick-basses/...p-3-preamp.html

So it does what other tuners do and takes up double the pedalboard space? Nice one Ashdown!
Because it allows the cable company to "add value" and so increase its prices and profit margins. When they started out, Chord used to make no-nonsense, well priced cables. Now they sell speaker cables for £1,000 a pair, which gives you an idea of their business model. By the way, virtually none of these cable companies actually makes its own cable or plugs; they just assemble the bits and market them. Any company can assemble a good quality 6m instrument cable and get it to market for around £25 - Neutrik jacks, a proven pro cable like Klotz, Belden, Canare - or even less using a good quality 'no brand' cable. From a performance point of view, there is no point spending much more than this - you're not going to make a better performing cable. If you do want to spend more, your extra money should go into very high build quality and QC, but chances are that what you'll get for your money is audio jewelry and - quite possibly - an inferior cable. When marketing is more important than engineering you get things like Chord's cream outer jacket (I can't think of a worse colour for a cable that's going to spend most of its time on the floor) or the solid core of the Evidence cable, which not only makes the cable stiffer than it needs to be but also makes it much more susceptible to breakage. Much of what is written about 'exotic' cables is written in good faith by people who really believe what they say and are convinced they have actually heard improvements from their expensive bits of wire. Unfortunately, they are often listening with their eyes.
Massive +1 to all of that. I wonder if anyone who champions these exotic cables could pick them out in a blindfold test? I'm guessing not

I sold my Hartke gear a year ago, tbh for not a great deal more than what this guy was asking and it was all better gear too I had the 1x15 XL and 4x10 XL cabinets, sold for £110 and £180 respectively. The 4x10 was the USA one too, both were in tip top condition. I sold my HA5500 for about £220 - £230 i think. Both the cabs came with proper covers and a decent lead, i also chucked in a usable but roughed-up VXL pedal with the head. I had to do some pretty radical price reductions to get them moving from the initial price I'd be aiming at about £350 absolute tops for this rig. Do you know what speaker is in the 1x15? If it's been replaced with a cheapy it'll be next to useless, unless you fancy a Harte-branded footstool!
-
The 1x15 has had the driver replaced, should be aluminium like the 2x10 shouldn't it? EDIT: Looks like the head has had a knob replaced with a chrome one too
-
The German ones can still be picked up for £600, that seems to be the typical lowest street price for em. I agree if the Basic comes in at around £350 it's gonna be tough to beat, they look fantastic. It is worryingly close to the price of a used 'vette though. I'm keeping my eye on that $$ too, not that i need any more basses!
It will blur like Fender MIA MIM MIJ MII CIC CIJ etc. ie. It won't really make any difference. I adore my German Wicks. Just means if you don't have the cash you can get a cheaper one that looks just like it without the quality wood.
+1 I'd be interested in seeing the prices once everyone has them in stock. The Basscentre now has the Premium 4 string Corvette for £609 (rrp - £780) so that's not too promising. Basicaly the same price as the German ones
I think they're (RD Artist) awesome and it is an ambition of mine to own one, one day. A later model with the independent switches for expansion/compression and bright mode.
That's the model i had, '77 RD Artist in maple. I wouldn't get your hopes up about the circuit, it's been surpassed a million times over by everything that came after it. The on-board compression/expansion was pretty useless as you had no way to attenuate it and the two modes were dependent on the pickup selection, neck unit for compression and bridge unit for expansion. The bright mode was the "less good" switch, press it for an instant depreciation in tone! It was a beast to play, could get a great Ric sound out of it but tbh i wouldn't have another, i bought the Corvette and never really played the RD again Only got under £500 for mine too
Boss TU-2s have another DC jack for supplying power to other pedals, as does the Korg pitchblack.
The Korg DT-10 can power other pedals too, it comes with a daisy chain lead. My old Sabine tuner had an extra DC jack too and a little lead, i used to power my Hartke VXL off it for a nice neat mini-board

Either way he is sellig a counterfeit item, whether he knows it or not. Surely that must contravene some eBay rules?
-
The seller seems to have covered his back pretty well in the listing, the only thing he gives is the serial number and he even says it cost him £300 If i were you and i didn't want the bass (it sounds like you are unsure) then i'd bite the bullet and buy it, then if it isn't the bass the serial number makes it out to be file a "significantly not as described" claim on eBay. Then if he doesn't refund open a case in Paypal and then escalate it to a claim. I think you have 40 days to do this? You have to cover postage as well Even though the seller states no returns Paypal will still refund you if you have been ripped off. Thing is, does mentioning the serial count as specifying what model/year the bass is? Might be a sticking point if you do buy and return it Might also be worth getting in touch with Fender to notify them of a fake serial being sold on eBay, might add a bit of weight to a Paypal claim? Good luck with this one mate EDIT: Oh and message eBay now about your doubts (if you haven't done so already), again this might add a bit of weight to the claim and they would be less likely to side with the seller

A fishing rod holdall would also make a good EUB gigbag, fishing shops often have a few 2nd hand ones in around the £30 mark Check out the Preston Innovatons ranges, particularly the Hardcase ones as these are semi-hard style bags You can get them up to around 2m long too
-
Yeah I spotted that earlier, trouble is its the start of a slippy slope. £400 for an EUB to see if I take to it slowly becomes £750 for a db which then grows to £1k after new strings and proper set up ! Only to find I cant hack it.... At the moment a quick trip to Manc land for a Stagg is probably favourite.
Whereabouts are you? I'm near Blackpool and you're welcome to have a play on my Stagg EUB to see if you like it A lot of people dismiss the Staggs but i love mine, it can do quite a good db impression It also has a line-in and headphone out so i can play along to tunes on my phone in total silence which is really handy

What's this Warwick worth?
lemmywinks replied to jonnyfastfingers's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
They've been going for nearer £400 recently. In the past year or so i've watched Corvettes go from under £300 to over £600 (for a 5 string Active Standard!). I'd happily bid up to £400 on this if i was in the market You can still buy these new for around £600, although if anyone wants one now is a good time to buy 2nd hand as Warwick are shifting production of these overseas. -
Aye, the LMII was an incredibly popular head and sold bucketloads, combine that with the constant longing for bass gear that most of us have and it's not surprising that there's quite a few floating about in the FS section. I would say that for every person who sells one there are many more happy users who gig with their's week in week out and have no desire for anything "better" I love mine, it's going nowhere!
-
First gigging rig was a Gibson RD Artist '77 in maple through a Trace Elliot Commando 15, didn't really cut the mustard for what i wanted so i got rid. Now i'm using a Zoot (somteimes a Warwick) and Markbass LMII with a Schroeder 1212r
-
It says "custom made" on the headstock, that's where he got the whole custom bit from! I think it looks quite nice, lose what's left of the scratchplate and it'd be a cool bass
-
I'll take the neckplate if that's ok

Warwick Fortress One 4 string price drop £400 - SOLD

I assume so, the Mighty Mite on my fretless was originally on a MIM Precision. The body of the fretless is off a Hohner and it doesn't look like it's been widened. I also like the pickups on the Aria, i raise the bridge unit up high on the treble side and the harmonics are really loud.
-
Sounded like a genuinely nice guy which makes it all the more upsetting, RIP Jimmy and condolances to his friends and family Steve
-
If i had my fretless here i could check for ya as i have a mighty mite neck on that and an Aria STB Jazz here, unfortunately it's at my tech's house being upgraded at the moment. If i get it back soon i'll let ya know! I replaced the pickguard recently with a generic one and only needed to do a little filing if that's any help They're really nice basses IMO, i love the neck on mine!
