1. Mostly on songs which i've played in a few different keys from depping with different bands, Hush and Sweet Child O Mine are ones that i get confused on. I'll never forget the time i was depping for a band that played the latter in C, after the intro i came in a whole tone sharp in front of all my mates who pi$$ed themselves for the rest of the song, waiting for me to cock up again For years i got the blame for mucking up the post-chorus break on Are You Gona Go My Way, one day our drummer came up to me and said he'd listened to the CD the previous night and realised it was his fault all along
2. Around £100 now i think, i got mine for under £80 when they came out. I found it a bit flimsy but sounded great. Looks much better built than it actually is though
3. Again not too sure, they're probably about a year old and are most likely Maplins/CPC standard jobs, i couldn't find a brand on them when i last checked. They're black and are standard par can style
4. I quite like that, very pretty. I had the 6 string version with the dark cherry flame and that was nice, very well built too
5. Having had a quick look on t'net i don't think it is, i don't remember it coming with any software at all although there's a chance our old guitarist may have snaffled that if it did
6. Have to say i don't know! Is there a different model number?
7. Yeah it's cool, i'll need to get in there to test everything out before selling it anyways so taking pics of everything whilst i'm there makes sense. I'll have a chat to em soon
8. This is the only site i could find: http://www.sound-light-company.co.uk/electro-voice-m-68.html They're older but quite small, we've had our band through them for years. Not the deepest subs but handle bass and kick well, we could never be bothered with larger bins. They are in quite good nick for the age, carpet and grille are still pretty good although the metal corners are rusted and i think one or two may need fixing back on/replacing. I'll try to get in the storage room to get pics next week
9. I think Phaedrus was looking for something cab-wise, give him a shout?
10. Could post but it might end up being quite expensive! Packing the QSC and desk together and sending it with Interparcel/Parcelbee might be the way to go on that one I'll try to get pics but it might be a while as they're in storage and our drummer has the key I'll have a chat to the guys about any discounts as it's between the 3 of us
11. My covers band are calling it a day so the PA is for sale 2 x QSC RMX2450 amps - £370 each 1 x Harison 600w amp, used for monitors - not decided yet! Thinking around £100? Have to ask the guys 2 x Yamaha 600w tops, 1x12 with horn i think so quite compact. Not sure of the model but will check - £300 pair 2 x EV GSS 15XR 400w bass bins, again nice and compact - £200 pair 1 x Yamaha MG206C desk, bought new last year and been racked all it's life - £220 1 x Large dirty rack with removable top for desk, well gigged. Wheels on base may need replacing but there's wheels on the back for easy transportation - £100 2 x Large LED lights - £38 each 1 x Small LED light - £28 Also: Skytec smoke machine - £15 (£30 new) Speaker stands, well gigged - £20 pair (around half new price) Assorted leads, some good some not so good. Speakon, XLR, Jack. Have to check what we have next week Oh forgot, we're based in Blackpool
12.
i used to have a similar psu from maplins. should run your pedals fine, but in my experience noisy as hell, as not isolated. there's a reason it's cheap!
Our old guitarist had one of those, it struggled to power all of his pedals as he had quite a few, also it was quite noisy Maybe worth using a daisy chain lead until something comes up 2nd hand? I picked up a nice Dinosaur brick on here for £20 and it's still doing the job
13.
but the MM necks are better & the tone is richer.
That's a matter of opinion though. Personally i can't stand MM basses, i've played a few and found the necks awful and the basses generally clumsy. Warwicks are much more my thing, IMO their necks wee on MM necks from a great height. Warwick necks aren't for everybody, i bought my 1st Warwick based on the sound i could get out of it (again, IMO much better than any MM i've played). The neck didn't take long to get used to and i was converted pretty quickly. I'd say a Jazz and a Warwick are the only two neck profiles i feel at home on
14. It's dead easy, as said just remove the screws and you're there! I found the outer screws very flimsy and they can rattle loose when you're using the amp causing all sorts of horrible noises. Under all the extra metal it's the same case as the Little Giant i think. If you get rubber feet you can screw them into 4 existing holes with slightly longer screws, i also ground down the corners as they're really sharp. It's been really reliable since it's facelift, used to cut out all the time but it's been fine with no problems being run for a long practices, touch wood.
15.
Don't some Hofners have zero frets?
Yeah i can remember playing an old Hofner classical guitar that had one
16. Also it does have jack outputs. See that hole in the middle of the speakon socket? That's it! Took me ages to find on my Superfly!
17. Soundslive have an ex-demo LG1000 on their site at £219 Geoff: http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Ashdown_Li.../ASH-EX-LTG1000 It's been on there a while though so may have gone. Express have one for a tenner more with free delivery: http://www.expressmusicstore.co.uk/products.asp?code=80910 They look scarily similar to my Superfly (it's had the extra casing removed), same box and apart from the eq section they have the same front and back. I hope they don't have the same reliability issues!
18.
I think it's fairly well known that the Fleetwood Mac rhythm section combines Mick Fleetwood playing slightly ahead of the beat and John McVie playing behind. May not be everyone's mug of cocoa, but I happen to rate them as a damn fine pairing.
Aye i think i read that in an interview with John McVie in the old Bassist magazine, i always thought they had a great feel
19. They do weigh an absolute ton, not over the 30kg limit with PF though. Also the case is very long as these have huge headstocks I had an RD Artist '77 in maple. Eventually sold it for around £470, was on eBay with a reserve of £600 and didn't get one bid!
20. I thought Warwick were still owned by Hans Peter Wilfer, same since the company started in the early 80s?
21.
If you want one from me, I will sell them to Basschat members for £42 inc delivery to UK mainland.
Wish i'd known that last year, spent £53 on mine including delivery!
22. There's this one from the eBay thread: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GALLIEN-KRUEGER-2001...=item45f0ecaf96 In brighton though
23. May also be worth looking at a different strap design that spreads the weight evenly across your back and both shoulders, planet waves do a comfort strap: http://www.djmmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=50DARE000 I also remember one a while ago that went over both shoulders and had a sort of cross brace at the back, can't for the life of me remember what it was called though EDIT: Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Slider-Straps-Should...k/dp/B0002CZSX0
24. Thought i'd ressurect this thread as i've recently finished my £45 Aria Jazz. Got a nice tortie plate for a tenner and stuck some better tuners on that were left over from upgrading my fretless. I wanted a Timmy C style Lakland and as the headstocks are quite similar i stuck a nice logo on there. The old one left some pale marks on the wood where it had been but i didn't want to sand it down as the wood had gone nice and orangey Gave the fretboard a clean and its come up really dark, looks nice and sounds great too
25.
Couldn't you get something from Warmoth? Specify a light weight body (swamp ash/sugar pine/Pawlonia/basswood) and a maple neck to your size requirements? You might need a set of lightweight machines to stop neck-dive, but as it's a custom build then no probs.
Warmoth necks are always really heavy though, they have the steel support rods so this adds to the weight. With a really light body this might affect the balance of the bass, light machineheads or not. Also their Jazz necks are chunkier than what i would describe as a Jazz neck, unless they've changed them in the last year or two. Mine was spec'd as a Jazz profile but was a real handful, amazing quality though. Somtehing to bear in mind if you go down that route A guy round the corner from me has a very nice Sadowsky Metro, that was quite light (felt about half the weight of my Zoot!) and balanced well, a 5er too so i imagine a 4 would be a shade lighter EDIT for spelling
