1. They're good, some folk say the hardware is cheaper and doesn't last as long. I had to replace a volume pot on my German 'Vette Standard though. I liked every one i played, same electrics and pickups as the genuine article and same neck profile I'd wait a bit tbh as the new Rockbass line are on the horizon, they have them in the USA but i don't think they've arrived here yet: http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/pro...17057&cl=EN They'e much closer in appearace to the original Warwicks, have the proper bridge and the "W" logo. Even if you fancy one of the current range you'll most likely get a better deal on it once the new ones arrive and there's old stock to shift
2.
Anyone else here told him via EBay that they don't think it's genuine? I did so it would only take 2 other people to make his claim of "two" a little suspect. . .
Yeah i did, i think he's telling porkies there tbh He didn't seem like an ass and was being quite reasonable. If he is being honest and he paid quite a bit for what he thought was a rare and valuable Stingray then he's most likely going to be a bit gutted and isn't going to want to accept he's lost a large chunk of money. He might be trying to cut his losses with the ambiguous description regarding the validity of the bass
3. Here's what he sent me: "I have put in a revision and have said a couple of ebayers have saidits not a music man but i have over 50 watchers and hundreds of views on his an only 2 people saying this is not the real thing could this be a hussle im asking myself or have you and the other guy made the mistake. anyway ive put it in and just let them deside for themselfs ." Sounds reasonable enough, maybe he bought it as a genuine 'Ray? Again the suspect spelling and grammar suggests he's most likely quite young I let him know that it had been listed before and there was quite a few people both times that confirmed it wasn't all present and correct. Thanked him for changing the listing too, not many sellers do It looks like a nice enough bass and i'm not really a Stingray fan, if the neck is genuine then it should still fetch a good price
4.
So is this what causes my Little Mark II to do a sort of falling "ptschooooo" noise when I switch off, regardless of where the master volume's set? I always wondered about that. I kind of like it -- it's kinda cute.
LMII is class A/B i think?
5. My last band had a very loud drummer with an old-school loud kit, he totally governed the on-stage volume and thus was responsible for poor on-stage sound. Adding a "big Marshall stack = better sound" guitarist into the mix is asking for trouble. Maybe ask your drummer to get a more modern, quieter kit? Also ask the guitarists to have their amps facing sideways so they don't affect the FOH? I appreciate these two are easier said than done! I don't know why guitarists are so reluctant to downsize. Our original guitarist used a big Marshall stack and had the worst sound i have ever heard. The best guitar sound i have heard came from an Orange Rocker 30 combo, completely owned the Marshall By far the best solution is in-ears if you can afford them, drummers play quiter with them too so the whole band will be quieter
6. Wyre River Guitars in Blackpool are really good for guitar repairs, could ring them and ask them? Alternatively A&P audio do all of our repairs for PA, they're really good and have always been cheap. They're a PA company but they really know their stuff, they're on Poulton Industrial Estate near Blackpool. Tend to take a while to get the job done though http://www.arranpaulaudio.co.uk/apaudio.php?page=clients
7.
Yeah, I guess it goes to show heavy bridges won't always give good results. Funnily enough, the standard Gibson 3 point bridge I have on my EB-0 has to be one of the most maligned pieces of hardware ever - maybe even more than the BBOT, yet it's adjustable in just about every direction and weighs a ton! There's just no pleasing some people
I really didn't like the 3 point bridge i had on my RD Artist, found almost any other bridge to be easier to get good results from. I foud it quite a clumsy design and thought it was pretty ugly too! Tbh i'd have killed for a BBOT on that bass! I'll always prefer a Warwick style 2-piece bridge, really easy to adjust everything including string spacing. Looks the nuts too
8.
I agree, I recall seeing this one. However, this is a newly registered user so I wonder if it is a scammer copying an earlier listing (idiot could have at least copied a proper MM) or if it is the same guy using a different account as he doesn't want to sully an account that he has, that has decent feedback (you can legitimately have 2 accounts)!
Did the original listing sell? I had a quick look for it but couldn't find it, wasn't long ago though. I seem to remember something about a member on here lending his MM out years ago and the neck was copied? Might have been the Bass Doc? Probably just rambling! If it did sell then this might be the unlucky buyer looking to offload it to an equally gullible eBayer
9.
If you thought that one was bad. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2759.l1259 heres another, already reported and emailed the seller. The string tree is in the wrong position, used an old style logo on some"THING" modern, The pickup is wrong, bridge is wrong, neckplate and serial wrong. Trys to negate responsibility by saying he is unsure about the mods done by previous owner. Which i am sure is against ebay policy now.
I wonder if there's a battery compartment on the rear, as it allegedly used to be an active 'Ray. My money's on a resounding "no"
10. I messaged him about it and he's ammended the listing, still not changed the title though He seems to think people are saying it's not genuine so they can get it cheap, maybe he doesn't actually know it's not all correct?
11. Another +1 for Soundslive, i bought my Stagg EUB there (£45 cheaper than everywhere else at the time) which had a couple of issues. They were great, had the old one colected and was playing a new one with in the week, very pleasant people and seemed genuinely concerned with getting me something i was happy with. I know someone on here had a really bad experience with them a while ago, maybe they've actually responded to criticism and got their act together? GigGear were also excellent when i bought my "designed-and-built-by-morons" Ashdown Superfly, took it back and fixed it twice and were always pleasant to deal with
12. The OBP to go for is the OBP-2SK, it has the stacked bass/treble so you'd be ok with 3 controls Personally i'd prefer to have a mid control, the one on mine (OBP-3SK/PP) sounds great, i think my 2-band Warwicks cound really do with a mid-control By all accounts every Aguilar pre-amp is gonna sound sweet, just depends on wether you like 2 or 3 band eqs. If you really don't want to drill extra holes in the bass have you thought about an outboard pre-amp? The Tonehammer is basically an OBP3 in a box with extra features: http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_preamps_tonehammer.htm
13. Think this has been listed and flagged up on here before... I'll have a dig about
14. There's usually a few "proper" brands that come up on eBay for a similar price, eg Vintage, Aria, Stagg, Westfield etc. I'd keep an eye out for something like that if i was after a project bass. I played one of the Cheetah branded basses and it was ok, same headstock as the Swift ones so i presume it was the same factory. Nothing particularly good about it but seemed like it'd last for a year or two
15. If you need a stacked bass/treble, mid, volume and blend then surely you'll still need to have an extra hole drilled? EDIT: Unless you can rig the volume and blend (or a vol/vol) to a stacked pot
16.
Yeah I just don't have a silver one ATM. Do you know if the gig is going ahead on Friday?
I may have a chrome string tree knocking about if you want it?
17. I was moved when Rick Wright died, Floyd were a very influential band for me and i spent a lot of my musical youth engrossed in their stuff, particularly the Saurcerful/Meddle/Pompeii/Darkside era. I always liked Wright, sat there quietly coming up with the goods from album to album, dignified amidst all the bickering, should have been a bass player really!
18. I think they sound great and are very loud, much louder in a gig situation than the 500w Hartke head my LMII replaced. If they were normal size they'd be on equal footing with a lot of heads but certainly better than most, probably a bit cheaper too
19. You can get black Wilkinson machine heads from an eBay seller, i bought some for my fretless a while ago and they're very good quality: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wilkinson-black-bass...=item20ac0a9e9f The base plate was slightly bigger than the tuners they replaced and i only just got them to fit on the Mighty Mite neck i put them on, once they were on they were a massive improvement though
20. Pretty much everything i've seen is for cabinets or large heads with rounded wooden corners, the Ashdown without the extra casing is about the same size as a LMII so they would dwarf it The standard size plastic stackable corners and the guitar cab-style metal corners are very big compared to the amp I've been looking for lengths of rubber extrusion of a suitable width i could cut to size but no joy
21. Had a look through those and the only ones they have are the usual large plastic or metal ones for cabs. Starting to think it'll be easier to buy some plastic extrusion and attach it to the edges
22. A while ago i took my problematic Superfly out of it's horrid casing and have been using it quite a bit with no problems. I added some rubber feet to it but the corners are way too sharp so i'd like to fit some small rubber/plastic/metal corners to it I can't seem to find any small enough, most places just sell the standard PA cab corners which are far too big. Anybody know where i can get some? Maybe even the rail type edges like the old Hartke amps had before they cased them? Ta in advance!
23. I guess it depends on which head and cab, everything i've owned (Hartke and Markbass) has been great at low volumes. I use an Ashdown Superfly and a small 1x12 cab for solo practice and it sounds good If you're going to be practicing with a drummer or gigging in the near future then 2nd hand stuff is the way to go on your budget. There's nothing worse than having an amp that sounds great at home but doesn't have enough umph in a band situation It's surprising just how good old Peavey etc. gear sounds compared to new fancy gear, i saw a band last year with an old Peavey head into a no-name cab and it sounded ace
24. The Hartke A series are great but build quality isn't as good as the old USA Hartke stuff. I have a little A70 which is loud and sounds great, however it's had a hard life and farts and rattles a bit now I'd certainly take the Hartke over the Electric Blue which although decent enough didn't sound anywhere near as good to my ears I'd still say go for a second hand head and cab instead of a smaller new combo. Have a look at Peavey stuff for something in your price range, there's usually a few for sale on here
