Anyone know if this Tanglewood looks any good?
lemmywinks replied to mushroomcloudwarrior's topic in General Discussion
I played one of these when they came out, my mate bought one and it had a grey finish with the grain showing underneath. They also had a green one in the shop I think it was in the region of £300-£400 new and i thought it was pretty good at the time They also did one with f-holes, always fancied one of those -
That's a bit harsh I don't think there's any need for that kind of personal attack.
You're only saying that cos you bought the hat.... -

I wouldn't buy a cap to meet Flea. I would however buy a pair of Hi-Tech trainers to meet Jeff Berlin I would also buy a wart to meet Lemmy -
A bit of good news at least, glad the bass seems ok

Fortress Masterman 5 string Reduced NO LONGER AVAILABLE
lemmywinks replied to oldslapper's topic in Basses For Sale
No, had a bout of sanity and finally decided to keep it as I couldn't bear selling it so cheap, would rather live with it. Also someone on BC very helpfully sent me a link to somene in the US that had a 5 string Warwick neck selling for £65, so I'm getting it picked up by a mate over there and he'll chuck it back to me when he's over here in new year. So could work out ok in the end. I'm selling some other basses instead as I need to raise cash, but probably put up in nearest music shop, so they can be seen & played before buying. Cheers
Result! Sounds like you made the right decision, although i'm surprised nobody snapped this up tbh! -

A friend of mine just picked up a Markbass combo (2x10 wedge thingy IIRC) and was mightily impressed. He paid around £700 for an ex-demo one He used to use a big rig (1x18 and 4x10) and that's now redundant

How long do you dwell on a practise exercise?
lemmywinks replied to Oscar South's topic in General Discussion
TBH I don't think I've ever practised a scale in my life. Practice for me means working out basslines for new songs (by listening to the original recording for covers or by working out the line I can hear in my head for originals) and making sure that I can still play all the other songs in the set from memory. If there's something new that I don't have the dexterity to play yet I find the best way is 10-15 minutes every day for a week or so generally gets my fingers doing the right thing.
+1 on this When i started playing covers i found the best way to improve was to simply learn everything by ear. I enjoyed working out fingering positions and progressions for myself, after a while you get in that zone where you can pick things up really quickly and you know what's coming next. Of course it helps if you're digging the music you're learning. Having that hunger to play really top tunes and basslines is a great incentive to play to your best and enjoy it. We started doing some really good songs this year and for the first time in ages a band practice was something i really looked forward to, mainly cos i got to bust out "Sir Duke" and "Under Pressure"! -
I've offered him £78 for it which i think is a reasonable price He's not got back to me yet though.......

Here's the garb on the Wizard website about the Hammers: "Struggling to get that dark crunchy tone you've always wanted? Lacking that oomph to get you over the line? Look no further, Hammers are loud dark and dirty, yet retain conventional construction - handwound, Alnico 5 magnets and attention to detail." I remember looking at them but thinking they wouldn't be suitable for my fretless "Loud, dark and dirty" - sounds like they'll do the job!
-
JoeGarcia had a set of Wizard Hammers, i think they're hotter than the 64s http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...4&hl=wizard Btw, if you're selling the Wizard 64s how much would you want for them? I was looking at Joe Garcia's but would have preferred the 64s for my fretless
