I've just bought the natural 5 string version of that bass for £50, looking forward to receiving it as the 4 string version of it was great

There's nothing worse than a brand snob, most basses these days are very well put together and are well up to gigging. Plus there's something cool about finding a great cheapo bass!

Ok, 1st dibs it is!

It was listed as a mahogany bass, . However it's one of the earlier Vintage ones with gold hardware and i presume a 2-band active eq. presume it's bubinga bodied as the photos were a bit poo. The seller also thought it was an Encore even though it says "Vintage" in big letters on the headstock!

I've just picked up a Vintage bubinga bodied 5er for £50 + £8 delivery, been trying to fing a 5er that i like the sound, feel and look of for a while

If this doesn't fit the bill i'll pass it on at £58 + p+p to anyone who wants it



I remember when i was at uni in Sheffield, i saw a new 5 string Stingray in natural for just over £500. The local music shop was closing down and there were bargains galore. My mate got a nice cheapy acoustic for £30. I remember having spent all my money of my course books and a memory upgrade for my laptop, when the next installment of my loan came through the bass was predictably gone

I was looking at that one, looked really nice in the tobacco burst. Think the postage was around a tenner too so that's a lot of bass for the money

FWIW i played one of those Ps the other night, loads of decent beefy sounds to be had just from the blend knob. The one i tried had crackly pots and a noisy pre (it was ex demo, the guy paid £435 if memory serves) so it was a bit off-putting but i was still very impressed. It was a slap monster and had a very assertive fingerstyle sound, i'd gig it any day

I'd love to try one that didn't have the faults that one had, although i'd probably end up buying it! I think P + J is my new favourite pickup configuration

Makes you wonder just what the Crack Converters stores actually pay for these basses if they're still making a profit, makes me shudder just thinking about it!

I'm going to stop reading this thread now as i can feel the first wave of jealousy coming on...

I've been on at our drummer for ages to buy a quiter kit. He uses an old Premier kit which rarely needs micing up in pubs, i think if he got something that was designed after the invention of drum mics then our problems would be solved.

He always complains that he can't hear the bass, play quieter then!

How difficult is that to knock up? Also will it fit inside a typical control cavity? I won't be doing it btw!

I know how i'd want to incorporate the piezo in the bass, just the usual passive vol/vol/tone and a seperate volume for the piezo, i want it as simple as possible

I'd just like to add that i recently bought a bass from a zero feedback seller, no pictures in the listing and a too-good-to-be-true price. Received the bass last week and it's excellent! The seller was very responsive to questions though, supplied pics and details readily
In that case the seller was new to eBay and didn't think people would be wary of the auction, he was actually one of the more genuine sellers out there!

RE this listing, as others have said if the seller isn't responding and you can't view the bass then it might be best to leave it unless you don't mind the risk of losing the postage fee in a Paypal claim. Also you the money would go to your Paypal account so they'd take another slice of the pie when it's transferred back to your bank. Weigh up the potential loss and decide if you wanna chance it!

No longer require a Warwick Fortress as i've bought one so just for sale now

This was originally mine, Dr. Dave was it's second owner.


It originally had cheapy (but actually pretty good) pickups and electrics which i swapped out for USA Fender gubbins. I also added a decal but i'm not sure if Dave replaced this with a different one.


It's an excellent bass especially for this price, it has bags of mwah and nails that Jaco sound. It also looks a lot more expensive than it actually is!
If i had the space i'd have it back, unless someone wants to buy my Warmoth!


EDIT: Oh the bass is about 3 years old btw and was £199 new (i actually chose it over more well known basses), i paid £39 for the electrics, £8 for the decal and £7 for the fender-compatible knobs (the shafts are thicker on Fender stuff). It originally had Jaco-style P-Bass knobs but i gave these away with the original electrics

I use a similar one (for fishing, not gigging!) and it's taller than me and i'm 6'5"

You might have to modify the interior and i have no idea if it would be wide enough for a Palatino. They're usually divided into 2 sections. Loads of fishing shops stock Preston gear so you might be able to have a look at them before buying

I wouldn't worry, he said he likes to send things as soon as possible. He's a genuinely sincere guy by the sounds of things, kept me updated all the way through the sale and was more than happy to provide extra pictures and answer questions. Just a new seller who's honest and has good stuff to list but hasn't used eBay before. Everyone has to start somewhere! I bought mine blind with no pictures and he had a zero feedback rating, the bass is totally ace btw!

And i'm not gonna sell it, i've been after a Fortress for donkeys years ever since i first saw the Masterman reviewed in Music Mart! I'm actually GASsing for one of those now....

The colour on this one is really nice, quite a high gloss so in normal light it's a shade of brown but it's got greeny tinges to it. Neck is excellent too.
