1. I'll actually stick up for mine now as since i took it out of the casing it's had loads of use and zero problems. I'm not gigging it but for a cheap practice head it does the job, it was £199 years ago so it's earnt it's keep

I wouldn't use it as backup or take it to any situation where i would be depending on it working without error though, it used to be a horrible amp to use. Mine cut out regularly and went back a few times because of a dodgy channel - it arrived with only one side working!

Like i said it's been absolutely fine since i took the casing off so i put the problems down to overheating issues, for now at least

  2.
The fact that you played through a Hartke that actually works astounds me.
?

Generally Hartke have a great reputation for reliability. A local shop near me changed from Ashdown to Hartke because of all the returns he was getting and is still stocking them to this day.
I had 2 heads and 4 cabs, all of which got gigged regularly and the only problem was with the VX215 - needed some screws to secure the baffle board

  3. It's not everyone's cup of tea so will take longer to sell i'd expect, also it would help if you described it a bit clearer in your sig (it looks like your selling a group of consonants instead of a bass!), maybe made the text bigger/different colour? That way everyone would notice it when you post. Could also put a link in there

Some basses will go in a day, some will take an age (like my old Warmoth)

  4.
Well, if it's good enough for Jack Bruce....

    G.
Exactly! It's not like you were using an underpowered 20 year old carlsbro combo with a flatulent speaker!

Those Hartke heads are great, i used Hartke stuff for ages and only really got rid because i wanted something smaller and lighter. Gigs and practice rooms with stairs are the deciding factor i'm afraid. The VX series offer serious bang for buck too, i had the 1508 and the 215 - both shifted a lot of bass and were dirt cheap. I stayed with the brand and bought a full stack and still own an A70 combo today

You know you've got it good when a decent half stack is budget gear!

  5.
I agree with the above - a Hofner neck & pickup. The neck might have been worth something if the 5th hole hadn't been bored in it. Is the body a slab cutout in the shape of a 185?

    G.
Methinks if you tell the seller that it'll get listed with "rare vintage Hofner" in the title and given a £100 price hike....

  6.
that IS annoying. Maybe I can wire it for a battery.
Something like this?

EDIT Just seen that's centre +ve, but you get the idea!

  7. Also here:

  8. Think we've seen this one before, originally a 2k custom job that sold on eBay for under £600

  9.
and all that from a warwick/stagg/aria(even fender?) owner!!!
    :)
handbags aloft vic&bob/shooting stars style "OOOOHHHH!!!!!"

(Status owner & 45 and a quarter years old)

They look like Fisher Price Alembics!

  10. I agree with Bilbo, any decent set up will do the job. A simple passive Fender style bass will be reliable and cover most of what you need

I'd advise against getting a Status unless you're over 46 and don't need to appear attractive to women :)

  11. Have a butchers at these:
    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=nemesis

    Or this:
    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=84225

Both great deals and quality cabs

  12. No hard and fast rules, experimentation is usually the best way to go. I often found i preferred to position things differently than the recommended way

If it were me i'd go tuner>wah then experiment with the last two. Which do you use simultaneously?

  13. Yep, if you're amp goes down to 4ohms you can run 1x4 ohm cab, 2x8ohm cabs or 1x8ohm cab
Running one 8ohm cab you will get 235w out of the amp, specs here:
    http://www.eden-electronics.com/products/a...indiv/wt400.asp

There's a handy sticky on impedance here:
    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=135

  14.
havn't seen these looks much more reasonably priced! any bass videos/demos anywhere??

    rich
They're part of Zvex's cheaper range, made overseas and the final assembly is done in the USA. There's a review here with some clips too:

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=mastotron

Because it has the impedance knob it likes active basses, i used it with a passive Jazz and my Zoot (18v Aguilar pre) and it was happy with both.

  15. The Mastotron isn't all that expensive, i got mine for £76 new and they're £89 now. Some Zvex pedals are stupidly expensive (£220+ for a Wooly Mammoth? no ta!) but the Mastotron is IMO opinion reasonably priced, especially considering it has features most other fuzz pedals lack suck as impedance, wave shape and the 3 way sub switch
