I wouldn't bank on that, the tuners on the V7 are still pretty cheap, and the bridge is a hand-me-up from the V3.
Them being cheap (you can get a 5 string set from NW Guitars for around £30) isn't a factor as they are of decent quality and do their job a lot better than the bottom of the barrel machine heads on the V3. I currently have a set of the Grover clones found on Gen2 V7 basses (they were taken off a Sire funnily enough) on my Aria backup bass and the difference is noticeable, they hold their tuning during a rehearsal and feel much more solid.

Better neck is subjective, I much prefer the profile of a Sire 5er to a Squier. The B string is usually extremely good on Sires as well so a point over the Squiers there IMO, plus the pre on the Squier Contemporary is pretty much junk.
Comparison here:
For that sort of money I'd be looking at a used Gen2 V7 (or V5 if you don't need the preamp) as they have better hardware, I think the V3 still use the low end tuners.

Seeing as he plays appropriately in his other band it's an attitude issue rather than a technique one. He views your band as a throwaway gig where you can put up with him playing in a selfish manner or get someone else in. You're fighting a losing battle here really, a drum screen may look slightly ridiculous in a pub setting but it might be the only way to paper over the cracks and get FoH under control.
We have a similar (lesser) issue with a guitarist who has started to bring his amps to gigs and change his settings on a regular basis after a long period of us just using IEMS. I end up doing most of the PA side of things and it just causes issues where the consistently we had is replaced by problems which I don't always have time to fix and can't do much with anyway as he's taken control away from the desk.
I don't have any time for selfishness in working bands, same with poor song suggestions that are only put forward because one member wants to play them on stage even though they clear a busy dance floor at every gig. It's the same root cause every time - failed rock star syndrome.

I don't think people pointing out that a certain cheap preamp sounds markedly worse than other cheap preamps is "cork sniffing" but there we go. Ibanez' in house preamps are much better than the Mk pre, probably why they use those now in the basses equipped with the licensed Bart pickups. The Artec I mentioned is £20 and also much better than the Mk pre IMO.
To the OP I would see how you get on with it as standard, if you find that a bit lacking then try the pickups wired passive. If you prefer that then think about swapping the Mk preamp out for a better (not necessarily expensive) one.

On my V7 I used a Gotoh404, this has appropriately aligned string through holes but you do need to drill new mounting holes for it. Metal control knobs are also a nice upgrade, generic AliExpress ones are fine.

Ok I'm not an expert on EQ but I think I get what you're saying. Either way isn't it possible to change the preamp without spending a huge amount (obviously to upgrade)? And as a more general thing are BTB's considered good value if you're buying them new in comparison to other 5 strings?
You don't need an expensive big name brand preamp, just one that boosts and cuts at frequencies you like. Those Artecs are about £20 and I've always liked them. See how you get on with the stock pre first, you might like it.
All Ibanez basses are a good bet, built to a high standard with nice materials. Like I said there's a fair bit of depreciation so if that BTB is £400ish then grab it, the current closest spec model will set you back £800-£900. Wouldn't be my first choice at the new price but definitely a good buy at half that.

Oh right the SR600 I've found is 4 string which would be why the string spacing is still 19mm and it also has bartolini mk1 pickups but after listening to some audio tests with the bartolinis I think they sound find, at least to me so I might just go for the BTB in the end. I guess it's either that or wait to see if anything else comes up but who knows how long that could take.
The Mk pickups are ok, they're reverse split coils and nothing special but sound decent passive IMO. The issue for me is with the Mk preamp, just seems to have boomy bass and harsh treble like a pre from a 90s budget bass. Sounds ok (if a little dark) in isolation but tends to get buried in a mix, if you like how it sounds centred then it might work for you but don't expect to be able to dial in more clean bass. Ibanez also used to use a suspiciously similar sounding pre in some of their older basses, my EDB555 had the same issues despite having a completely different set of pickups and an in house preamp.
Frequency chart looks like this, I don't think they changed anything for the Mk2 version:
Some people like them but they didn't really work for me in both Corts (who build Ibanez) I had with them as stock. For a cheap budget preamp I slways liked the Artec SE3 series, bass centre frequency is around 80hz so much more musical to my ears.

From what I'm seeing both the SR600 and BTB785 have 19mm string spacing and that's what I have on mine atm so I don't think that should be an issue. Can confirm the BTB has Bartolini pickups so I might look around some more. What do you mean by the Big Breaks for the SR6xx? Also £400 is more or less my budget so unfortunately I'm going to have to hold off on the higher end SRs. Thanks for the reply 👍
The 5 string SR is usually 16.5mm, looks like this is adjustable by 1.5mm on the current models, still quite a thin neck though so YMMV. Ibanez did some broad neck 5 string SR basses but you don't see these come up for sale often.
Big Breaks are Nordstrand pickups which the current SR600 series use.
-
Much wider spacing on the BTB (19mm compared to 16.5mm), longer 35" scale length and heavier with it, try both as they have been designed to be completely different to each other. The BTB785 is the 775 with a piezo bridge I think. If so (not 100% on that) it will have the licensed Bartolini Mk pickups and pre which aren't great.
Honestly I would look for an Ibanez with Nordstrand, Fishman or licensed CND pickups and their in house preamp, if the SR6xx you're looking at is the one with Big Breaks in it and you can deal with the tight string spacing then get that. Even better shop used and try to snag one of the higher end SR basses for sub £700, the depreciation on them is heartbreaking for sellers but amazing for buyers. For any Ibanez with Bart Mk or BH electrics I wouldn't be paying over £400 really, a bit more money gets you a much better sounding pickup and preamp.

Last time I checked my local Money Traders (like Crack Converters but you don't get fleas when you go in) they had a mint condition Ibanez SRMS805 in the Sea Floor finish for £550, they're about a grand new. Played nicely but didn't plug it in as I don't like tight spacing or licensed Barts. They also had matching left handed guitar and bass Steinberger Spirits in earlier this year for £250 each, seems to be a better standard of kit in there than the usual Cashies junk so I always have a look.

I closed my account this year after Evri (booked through eBay) either stole my parcel or delivered it to the wrong address, despite uploading security camera data and eBay admitting it was lost they still made me jump through hoops to get a refund.
For buying cheaper new items I just use AliExpress which is much better, for buying/selling things like used basses/amps etc I just buy off here or FB marketplace. I sold two basses recently on FB, a few timewasters but both sold pretty quickly at the prices I set, much easier to spot potential scammers as well given they have a full profile you can view.

Is that solid mahogany? Will weight about as much as 26 real Danelectros if so!
Cool thing though.

I used to gig with the VXL as my main DI for years, right in front of an HA5500, XL410 and an XL115!
Prior to the HA5500 I had the HA3000 which had the same shape circuit as the VXL instead of the full eq, preferred that really as it was so easy to dial in a great sound.

Strong possibility this is a chancer, definitely send them a return label through eBay. Do not send them any money but do send them a polite message apologising for the shipping damage. EBay read these if it gets escalated so just follow procedure.
There's also a chance he has a broken one and has swapped the driver out for yours, basically looking for you to cover the cost of his repair or replacement. This happens quite a lot with other categories (vintage video games is a notable one) and there's nothing you can really do about it. Hopefully the courier doesn't have speakers on the excluded items list although you should be ok if you shipped through eBay.
Earlier this year I sold a laptop (just a £35 Chromebook so borderline e-waste) for a mate on eBay, thoroughly tested (I used to buy, refurb and sell laptops quite a bit) and packed in a proper laptop air pouch inside a decent box. Got a message when it arrived that it had a faulty touchpad, in fact it would be more accurate to say I got about a dozen messages every day about it even though I paid for a return label immediately. Basically the guy wanted almost the full amount back to allegedly get it repaired privately, then changed his story to say he'd already had it repaired and I now owed him the money after I told him it was a £7 part and a 10 minute repair for me. Eventually had to block him and he never sent the item back so no refund.

Yeah a 20,000mAh power bank is bigger than your mobile phone, not a sniff those batteries are anything like that capacity.
These look to be more realistic:

Mike Walsh at Zoot/Iceni has been doing a lot of 32" scales recently, you'd probably be looking at the Funkmeister shape with whatever pickups etc you want.

Shocking that 😳
We managed to get a replacement NYE gig so worked out alright

Add some fresh solder to get the old stuff flowing. I have my iron at 350w now, mainly because the backlight in the screen has gone and I can't see it to change it.
Bought a replacement screen but I need a working iron with a fine tip to install the bloody thing so I'll have to buy a new one anyway!
-
I've had a pub manager take the diary and also the our NYE fee along with it!
Got a nervous call from the new guy asking us if we were still ok to play NYE and to confirm we had already been paid, apparently the old manager told them he'd paid all the bands up front then just done a runner with the money.

Weren’t the 450 & the 750 both 236 watts?
Don't start this again, you'll have all the TC Group fans telling you how loud they are, even though volume was never the issue!
But yeah, according to TC (so take this with a grain of salt the size of Pluto) they did have a real 450w or whatever power section but this was limited to 236w in both models so they could do their digital "valve" APM stuff. All irrelevant if it produces a sound you like at the volume you need but it is something worth mentioning, it's ok to like an amp and still point out why it might not be suitable for other people based on things it does/doesn't do.
If you like decent digital valve emulation then try one, if you want clean, uncompressed lows and sparkly highs as an option then get a Reidmar or something.
