1. On cheaper Jazzes they often use generic necks, same ones as you'd find on the brand's P-bass copy!
If you need correct neck dimensions on a budget then Squier are your best bet, although i played a Vintage last year that had quite a narrow neck.

Those Aria's are decent basses though, i picked up an STB Jazz a while ago and i love it! Punches well above it's weight

SX Precision and 2 cheapo Jazzes, colletion in Swindon.

Precision has to be worth £100+, the other 2 both have Fendery headstocks so would make good projects

  3. This was originally my housemate's bass before Wayne bought it. I gigged it a few times and he never really played it so it was almost like new!

The small area of pitting on the control plate is from being left in the case for a year as my mate gave up playing bass.

Sounded huge through my then Hartke rig, definitely every bit a "proper" USA Musicman for silly money

  4.
Good suggestions. I've looked at amp stands but the cabs are pretty deep. I'll take another look.

    Thanks for that. :)
The one i use is a Giraffe stand, it's comfortable with my parctice cab on which is 15"x20"x18" (lxhxd) . Your MB cabs are a little squarer but a similar volume. Also used it with my Schroeder 1212 which was really stable

  5. Could you raise one of your cabs on a stand? Here's a cheap one that goes quite high:

I have a similar one which is more adjustable, i need it to be horizontal to put a head on top:

  6.
I thought there was supposed to be a policy by ebay where sellers who repeatedly fail to "perform" will get strikes each time they fail to sell the item, and if they get too many strikes their account gets closed. Since feedback is important, this is, I thought, sufficient motivation to keep rogue sellers in line-ish.
I'm guessing that rule only applies to small sellers that eBay doesn't make much money off. I recently bought a phone battery charger from a company that had over 500 neg feedback in the last month! These guys:

    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...eedbackAsSeller

I don't think eBay have done much about them tbh, reckon they've had a few strikes!

Needless to say the charger didn't turn up after 2 alleged attempts, got a refund

  7. Similar thing happened to me a while ago, i bought a brand new Sony laptop (£700+) from a highy regarded seller for £55, only to be told it was a listing error and refunded.

EBay wouldn't do anything about it, all i could do was give them stinking feedback. It looked as though they'd done it a couple of times before too.

  8.
But implying he made the instrument seems a tad off to me...
Aye, i remember him saying in the original ad that the bodies were difficult to make, one mistake and it goes in the bin or something like that. If i didn't know it was a Wesley i'd assume that he made them himself.

The text on the original BC ad has disappeared too....

  9.
Just been offered a Musicman HD500 head with blown output transistors for £50 is it worth it?
Played through one of these a while ago, monster head.

    Buy it!

  10. £180 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Custom-Jazz-Bass-Sey...=item19baace99f

Duncans, Gotoh bridge, Mighty Mite neck. No bad components used so looks like a good deal

  11.
Really? Well, if my crazy idea isn't so crazy, I might try that. I can't do the veneers thing as I lack tools, but I could certainly shape some filler.
I thought of doing a similar thing to my project, i don't have anything more than hand tools and no workspace/garage at the moment.

My idea was to cover the neck heel in thin film and screw it to the body, then get the right angle by using lengths of light elastic as mock-up strings. Once enough filler has been inserted into the gaps and has dried simply unscrew the neck and remove the film, hopefully the neck pocket would be snug.

Does that sound like a stupid idea?

  12. How about giving Prosebass a ring?

Warmoth necks are quite heavy, they do variations on Fender style bodies though.
If you really need a Precision they do a Dinky version. They also do a chambered Jazz body. Something lke that in Ash would probably be quite light.
I'd be tempted to put a Squier/Mighty Mite neck on one of those though, the Warmoth i owned had quite a heavy neck due to the steel reinforcement rods. Was a great neck though.

It was also a Pau Ferro neck and board so that will have contributed to the weight

  13.
The only prob with the Artec is it will leave the LED & switch holes vacant. I've seen people use small rubber plugs or black dome-headed screws to fill those.

    G.
I'm filling the LED hole on mine with a series/parallel switch, the active/passive is going to have stacked controls for the piezo in there

I guess you could fit a series/parallel where the active/passive switch is and keep the LED to indicate this? I'd change it to blue though, i think it looks rubbish in red!

  14. I gig a Schroeder 1212r and a LMII, you'll have absolutely no problems with volume!

As said, there is an angled speaker so you can stick it on the floor (on it's side) and still hear it. I used a stand a couple of times and found it sapped bass, i use an Auralex Gramma pad now so i get the bass back but no wolf notes/excess floor rumble

Also bear in mind you can pick up a LMII for around £400 on here 2nd hand, that coupled with the Schroeder also for sale would give you a killer compact rig for under £700.

The Hartke stuff is great, i used Hartke for years and owned 3 diferent rigs (still have a little combo). The LMII has more clout than my old Hartke heads though, FTR i used a HA3000 and a HA5500. There was a couple of the LH500 heads or around £200 on here recently too?
