1. Whereabouts are you Roob? I've got a Hartke VX215 cab for sale at £90. I'm near Blackpool It's 2x15" paper cones with horn, rated at 500w @ 4ohms. It's a bit big to post (although not really that heavy) so i think it might be better collected EDIT: Or just buy this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=58089
2. Even if miracles did happen and this was indeed the genuine article i'd still refrain from bidding, purely on the basis that it looks 'orrible! "it has been resprayed a dull black and fitted with a metal scratchplate"
3. Sorry bud, already losing a bit on this as it is and they usually go for a bit more than this
4.
Doom.
I have a feeling this thread is going to turn into a brown noise conversation
5.
does he drop tuning and loosen the strings to help get that tone?
I'm not really sure (never paid much attention to Korn when i was of the age), sounds like really low tension strings though
6. Sounds like an extremely low action with scooped mids EDIT Beaten to it!
7. I bought one of these a while ago to go on my fretless. Haven't got round to fitting it yet but there's some information on this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54202&hl=piezo Please let me know how you get on as i'd appreciate as much information as posible. I was just looking for something to blend in with the normal signal and want to keep it as clean as possible EDIT: Found this simple schematic if you're interested, dunno if it would be suitable for bass. I'm gonna show it to my tech guy and see what he thinks http://www.scotthelmke.com/Mint-box-buffer.html
8.
Hi, thanks for the suggestions! I did have a look at the Squier active Jazz, and 51 precision, but as I already own a 78 precision, I think I may want an alternative to a Fender. The Ibanez didn't really do it for me, looks wise, sorry guys! Nobody has mentioned the Cort, so I am still thinking Yamaha or Warwick/Rockbass. Keep 'em coming though, Mark.
I bought a Cort Curbow recently (i'm selling it but it's a 5er). Dinky little body but still feels like a proper bass un the strap, very well made with great components and electrics. The bridge in particular is a recessed chunky unit. The slap switch is useful (this and the EQ gain can be attenuated with trim pots) so it's versatile, the 3 band Bart eq is good too If it were my choice i'd get a Warwick Corvette. Mine is extremely well made
9. I have this old IBM desktop for recycling, i got it for free and i was using it to install OS on some ultraportable laptops i had (damn fiddly and annoying process!) and i now have no use for it. It's a complete set up and would make a great internet machine - It's a PIII 600mhz - 384mb RAM (memory size error at post but is fine, i'll dig some smaller sticks out if anyone wants them although the memory is the correct type and size) - 8 gig hard drive - 2xUSB ports - CD ROM and Floppy - Monitor, keyboard and mouse included. The mouse and keyboard are USB though so i'll include a 4 port USB hub so they don't hog all the ports - No sound card but has built in graphics (old sound and graphics cards are dirt cheap). All relevant cables are there too - Fresh install of Windows XP with open office, WinRAR, VLC etc. I'll stick Avast on there if you like - Has Quake and Cave Story installed too! I think Half Life may be on there as well ALL GONE
10. Cheers bud, it is a beautiful bass, not up for any trades at the mo (unless it's a nice Warwick Fortress) but a lot of folk on here like Ibaneezes so i'm sure it'lll shift
11. It was listed as "bass" under basses for sale, £1 BIN I'm getting increasingly tightfisted so i was all over this one!
12.
............ so we had Gizz Butt (ex The Prodigy) on guitar............. Nick
He's ace, i remember buying his Janus Stark album when it came out, some good tunes on that
13. You don't need to spend a lot to get a really nice sounding fretless, the Jaco copy i had (recently sold by Dr. Dave) was excellent. Similarly the Bitsa fretless i now own is also very nice, £130 off geoffbyrne on here, also ripe for modding. Mine is getting taken back to passive pickups and having a piezo bridge installed when i get around to it Check out the Warmoth Custom in my sig, that's a nice bass for 390 notes, Pau Ferro board too
14. Wonder when this one will be pulled? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/bass_W0QQitemZ280384...id=p3286.c0.m14
15. I always liked the sound of Hartkes little combos. I struggled to get the same sound out of their bigger rigs but the Kickbacks and A series are seriously good for the money. The A70 and A100 can be had for around £100 second hand. My housemate is selling his Kickback15 (120w, 15" aluminium speaker) for £250. It's like new as he hardly played it, it's one of the USA made ones too which were over £500. It's bigger and heavier than my little A70 though, maybe a bit overkill for quiet practice
16. There was a Mark Hoppus on eBay last night, BIN of £325 last time i checked IIRC. The Daphne Blue one i think
17.
The thing to remember is at a pub gig people come to see you, but at a wedding you're the hired help. I'm not mad about wedding gigsand other functions, but it's better than not playing.
It's also a captive audience, most of which are on a big night out rather than the usual weekend at the boozer. Wedding gigs are my favourite cos i find them the easiest as everyone is out to enjoy themselves. I don't think we've ever played a bad wedding gig, they've all been more like getting paid to have a laugh
18. +1 to scheduling the band around other events, any speeches and buffets, cake-cutting etc. We usually play weddings for late twenties - early forties so it's a right laugh most of the time. One we played recently was in such a hot venue (upstairs room, no windows or air con) that a lot of the crowd actually stood outside in the pouring rain to get a break from the heat. Not playing there again!
19. Used to do smaller gigs with my Hartke A70, always put in a stirling effort tbh. If we had PA support i used it as a monitor, kicked back at the front of stage I've done a few bigger gigs with knackered old Traces, one where the volume knob wouldn't go past 2 (it kept springing back) and the other where something was loose inside the amp, causing a rather unpleasant distortion sound. Same PA company both times btw, different amps though. Wouldn't have minded but both times they insisted the bands use their amps
20. "my wife bought it for my 40th birthday, i did not want a bass anyway and to be honest I need the money" Ungrateful b@st@rd!
21.
Ah OK. I seem to remember some not so good news about the superfly, but it is going cheap! have you tried teh Little Giant? Thanks very much Matt
Yeah there's been too many complaints for it to be worth the risk, i wouldn't pay more than £100 for one and that would be just for a bedroom and practice amp. Not heard the Little Giants but there's quite a big thread on them somewhere. I think opinions were positive, although the smaller one was appaerntly a little quiet Keep in mind that the Superfly needs 2 4ohm cabs to get the most out of it. It works like a 2 sided PA amp and cannot be bridged so each output puts out 250w @ 4ohms. I used it with one 4ohm cab, another time with 2 8ohm cabs and it was fine though. One 8ohm cab would probably be fine Not sure if the Little Giant heads work like this but it something to consider
