80kgs? Made my back hurt just reading it!
-
Excellent basses these, has the added bonus of looking rather smart too!
Bubinga ones were more expensive as well -
Haha! Every time i get a bass delivered to work i spend half the day playing it!
Very nice looking bass too, i've never seen a bad looking fortress though -
This is looking great now, very entertaining build diary as well!

Some people think they can be on par (or better) than USA Fenders, some experience bad ones that er, aren't!
I tried a few and they were all well below par for a £400+ bass, i ended up buying a Squier because it was a far better bass. However there are extremely good ones, some folk on here swear by them -
Billy Gould - Faith No More
Larry Graham - Sly & Family Stone, Solo
Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
Verdine White - Earth Wind & Fire
A good way to cop some ace basslines is just to get the generic Disco/Motown/Funk boxsets that go cheap in HMV etc.
You can get the 3 CD sets for around a fiver, loads of top tunes on them. I bought a few a while ago and there's Chaka Kahn, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Rick James..... you get the picture!
Plus introduces you to stuff you wouldn't have heard otherwise -
Good stuff! I'm regretting not bagging the one on eBay now! It's my favourite Warwick shape
How much if you don't mind me asking? -
That's a better explanation than i could muster!
Gigged with this on Saturday (well, tried it for a few bits on a couple of songs as we don't have much call for uber fuzz..... yet!)
It's definitely well suited to bass in a live situation. When you kick it in it sounds exactly like a fuzzed up version of your normal signal (obvious i know, but it's surprising how many fuzzes don't cut it live). Seemed to sit in the same sort of frequency range as my normal sound but adds a lot more clout, in other words it doesn't get lost in the mix at all.
Tons of bass too! -
The bass in the OP reminds me of the (IIRC) Gibson RD bass... weren't they pants as well? Only joking Gibbo owners.
They weren't that great in the grand scheme of things but were one of Gibson's best basses IMHO, Probably says more about Gibson basses than that model in particular!
I had a well gigged '77 RD Artist in all natural, managed shy of £500 for it which makes this look extremely overpriced -
If it's a mainstream brand then Warwick all the way. My 'Vette was under £600 new, an absolute bargain. Every inch a "proper" bass for not a lot of cash. Still one of the best necks i've ever played and looks the part as well as sounding fantastic

Didn't i buy a Stereo Electric Mistress from you a while back?
If so then they must be addictive pedals cos i sold mine on then had to buy another cos i missed it so much! -
You do look like you've had a little accident!
Cracking band though -
Have a gander at my fretless:

Not rosewood but Pau Ferro neck and fingerboard, a lot more resistant to wear and tear (it's got Elixirs on at the moment)
£450 posted i reckon -

These are all bargains but that classic Jazz is a steal! Luthier-made bass for £500?
-
Btw a lot of folk get on just fine with the standard LMII, Genz 6 etc. I use a LMII and it's plenty loud enough, we have a very loud drummer too
The larger power ratings of the more recent MB/Genz gear might not make too much difference either. I "upgraded" a rig a while ago to the higher rated model and it was pretty much the same! -
Some opinions here:
The Warwick market really is f***ed then...
Not for me, i'll be buying one shortly! -
I saw an FNA corvette go for £276 a while back and a mint Proline recently went for £410. Also a really nice Fortress went for £390 the other week.
Personally i wouldn't pay over £250 for this, but then i am tight as a nun's proverbial.
Also he describes the de-fret as "a fairly professional job as far as i can tell" -
Usually a few runs through at home then a few times at practice then that's pretty much it nowadays. Having said that most of our songs are pretty easy (all the best party songs are!) but we don't rehearse often. Usually we have 2 rehearsals to introduce new stuff then don't bother for a month or so.
When i first started i was playing Oasis etc. at school (not my choice, but there was only 1 drummer and he liked them) so getting competent was no problem! -

Where from?...... there supposed to be Twice that?...
A local guitar shop (who sadly has fallen into disrepute), i've bought a bit of stuff from him in the past (2+ grand) and bought two at the same time, one for my nephew who showed an interest in learning the guitar. Never checked the price, i'd be happy to pay that for it though. It's a lot more accurate than other portable tuners i've used and is less finicky too. Really easy to use and gets you in concert pitch in no time at all -
One of those little tool kits from the pound shop is always handy. Normal and mini screwdrivers, pliers and pincers.
All rubbish quality but a life saver in an emergency -
Handy.. My keyrings are never in tune ...
A dad joke of the highest order! -
Got a Seiko keyring tuner for £5.50, very accurate. Great for noodling around the house, esp as my classical guitar refuses to stay in tune for longer than 5 minutes!

I'm only 27 but have done the same, mainly out of pure laziness!
