1. Excellent price too, someone's gonna get a bargain. I'm off to the pawnbrokers to see how much they'll give me for my nan!
2. Where you gigging tonight, might see if i can get some mates out!
3. Bought my Squier bass on a lovely sunny day in Preston. Top bloke, so rock'n'roll he wears a leather jacket in brilliant sunshine!
4.
Just curious: Did you have the filters (VPF and VLE) off? "Flat" with these controls is all the way counterclockwise - both on will wreck your sound.
True! I really dislike the VLE and the VPF never gets more than a quarter turn. Sounds nice with them both totally off IMO!
5. Deputy, standing in for someone when they have a holiday/women troubles/drinking problem!
6. I'll always recommend the Owen Bass Gremlin if you can find one. Very versatile and natural sounding pedal. I use the MXR M80 for overdrive, although it's also a clean boost and a DI box. The blend control works really well, you don't lose any low end and keep your tone. It's clear and cuts really well
7. Try the mains fuse (should be in the kettle lead connection on the amp). My little Hatrke combo blew one of these, fretted about it for a couple of days then bought a new mains fuse for 50p!
8.
Don't pour Gasoline on it, it wont turn on. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ial%20Head/10/1
That first review is hilarious! "I called Howard Dumble. Caught him on his cell phone while he was pinching a loaf in his Las Vegas hotel room." "I play the piccolo and drums in a three piece suitcoat of paint band aid. We do all sorts of music from yugoslavic folk ballads to super heavy bloody and gutsy death and gerbil to rectum METAL. Mostly in a religious setting."
9. At a guess i'd say pretty awesome, combined with quality leads and a decent amp obviousy. I think there was a similar bass in the... ahem... for sale section..... ahem.... not so long ago...... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44102 In all seriousness the Walnut body (probably) will weigh a ton, contributing to thunky lows. The neck will be nice and stable (Warmoths have the steel rods going on and Wenge is a preferred choice for necks, early Warwicks?) and the 'board will be the dog's proverbials (all theoretical of course). Certainly looks nice! Have to say the overall sound depends more on the pickup/pre choice rather than the woods. The wood does play a part though, esp. on a fretless. My Warmoth is a very heavy bass, i think the density of the woods used lends it a more P ish tone than most Js. I always had to dig in a bit more at the bridge to get the typical Jazz sound but it is there. The trade off is massive low end on all the strings. This is the bassiest bass i've had with even lows across the 'board. I'd definitely get a Walnut bodied bass again (funds permitting), plus it looks gorgeous! Steve
10. I agree with keeping the old pickups if you decide to sell it on. Frets or no frets, can't imagine you'd take a loss selling on a £35 bass! More likely to make a tenner!
11.
"To send it within mainland UK is £ 49. This includes buying a good box, tape, full insurance, filling forms in,waiting for the courier. It's work."
Even though everyone else charges the postage cost plus maybe a little more What sort of idiot buys boxes anyway? They're free! Packing tape is 2 for a pound too!
12. A "realised i haven't bumped this all year" er... BUMP
13. Sweet Tobias! Been on my wishlist for a while, the EMGs are indeed the recommended upgrade. Have to have a think about this as i've a Tonepump sat here doing nothing... You still selling yours Budget Bassist?
14. These may indeed be excellent basses (i'll reserve judgement until i've played one) but every time i see the photos i struggle to see where the extra money is going. You can get an absolutely cracking bass for under £200 new, so what's so special about these? If i'm buying a bass for £500 (and i will be later in the year) i want to know exactly what the improvement is over the competition, not a vague promotional blurb
15.
This week I as been mostly playing... ... moy Bolin!
That's gorgeous. Always liked their guitars but that looks fantastic
16. Perhaps more to do with the stage/venue? I'm looking into getting one of those Auralex Gramma (or whatever the correct spelling is) isolation stands because i want to cut excessive booming on some stages, nothing to do with the amp (a LMII with a Schroeder) and more to do with the stage floor among other things. I played an old Trace combo in a practice room that sounded decent yet totally floundered on stage. You can get a very warm tone from a Markbass, i was surprised as i thought something that small had to be hifi and "transistory"! I've also heard the Markbass combos don't fare as well as the standalone amps, maybe because they're made with too small an enclosure to save weight?
17. Good stuff! Our most famous audience members are Alvin Stardust, The Nolans and, er, Anthony from Blue. Not quite on the same level!
18. Schroeder 1212 cabs are 4ohm and handle a lot of power
19. Usually if you buy one off here it'll be a good 'un. I'd seriously recommend looking at the second hand market (particularly on here) unless money really is no object. You could easily shave at least a grand off your outlay for a bass which will most likely be in excellent condition Get two! EDIT: Just seen your last post, if you're happy paying that and nowhere else has them in stock cheaper then i guess you have your answer. Make sure you check online for competition though, might be a good bargaining tool when you're in the shop
20.
Walkabout? - Do they pay bands in real money now? Last time I was asked to play one their standard deal was - house guitaramps, drumkit & PA. No bassamp 'cause it sounds better through the PA'. Five bands on, each expected to bring a thirsty following. Bands payment - f'kall but a £25 bar tab split between however many band members. I politely declined in two short words. I expect the sound engineer in that case may have been less someone with magic ears and more someone who knew which knobs to twiddle to make a bass with a precision pickup sound like a precison.
£550 in pretty much all of them IIRC (and that was a few years ago when i used to dep for my mate). All your backline and house PA. Actually quite a fun gig! We do Brannigans (we don't like to travel that far cos we all have other commitments) and they pay £400+ too although sometimes there's no PA
21. A friend of mine has a cheapy Kramer PBass. He gigs all over the country in a function band and has to use this from time to time as it's his backup. The sound engineer at a Walkabout venue asks him to use it instead of his Ray cos he prefers it! If it wasn't so fugly and didn't have that godawful headstock i'd have probably bought one!
