1. With such a small difference in price just buy the best one, if one is £100 more but a better bass then that's the one i'd go for. Similarly if the 2nd hand one has a few knocks but is nicer then i'd get that one!

Well actually i'd buy that cheap Thumb on here but meh

  2. I like the Hartke A series, i've got the A70 (70w, 1x12" alu speaker) and it is plenty for practice and quiet gigs. Quite compact and light without being too small, also tilts back

EDIT: These can be had for under £100 as they were only £250 or so new. I've put a low B through the A70 and it sounded great too

  3. EHX Small Clone. Can be found for about £30 2nd hand. Needs an adapter lead though as some have the older jack style. Nano versions don't AFAIK

  4. Just thought i'd take a minute to recommend Soundslive.

Recently bought a Stagg EUB from them which had faults, so back it went. Got a replacement just over a week later (i believe they had to ship this from somewhere else and run it through their QC as they had no stock)

Have to say they were excellent throughout, nice to speak to staff who are pleasant and know what they're on about for a change

    So, cheers to Soundslive! :)

  5. I have an ebanol/ebonol (both spellings seem to be used!) board on my fretless and it sounds very natural. As said rounds churned it up a bit but it's a lot more hard-wearing than rosewood, even though i preferred the latter as a playing surface

I'd say go for it, it's the best cheap alternative and looks good too

  6.
I've tried some markbass stuff before. I found them quite clinical sounding but that was all combo stuff will probably have to look around though!
Try the heads through a different cab. Mine goes through a Schroeder 1212r and it can do clean and hifi but also dirties up nicely with my MXR. With the Schroeder you can whack loads of low mids through it for a grittier rock tone.

  7. If i lived up 4 flights of stairs i'd sell my bass gear and take up the harmonica!

Seriously, Markbass/Genz and a single efficient lightweight cab that can handle plenty of lows (Barefaced etc.) I'd invest in a decent quality bag for your head and leads too. Being able to load your gear in/out in one trip is a great feeling!

  8. I'd imagine the programmable Sansamp would be a decent option as you can save settings (3 i think?)

I use an MXR M80 for OD, clean boost/eq and DI. I then use a ZVEX Mastotron for fuzzier moments. I recently used this with the M80 and it sounds brilliant, like a 3rd pedal in it's own right (in fact it's the best sound i've had!). Really all i need is the M80 and another pedal to mix it with and i have 3 distortion sounds

  9. Tried this before my MXR M80 last night, they sounded excellent together! Couldn't have imagined a better combination of grind and all out fuzz. Amazingly it sounded controlled and clear too!

I'm thinking this pedal is definitely a keeper, it handles everything i throw at it and takes up a third of the pedalboard space of my Big Muff

  10. I have a Mighty Mite P neck on my bitsa Jazz and it's very nice. Only mwahs when i tell it to!

Not sure i prefer the ebanol to wood, it's marking up already and i was told it would last ages. Sounds very natural though
