Daft electronics = anything with more than one tone control. I don't understand all this fancy EQ malarkey, I just want my one good sound, and if I have 4 or 5 knobs AND 2 switches to twiddle a) how do I know what to twiddle and ii) surely I don't have to write down each setting etc in order to keep a tone after things get twiddled accidentally? So: I want passive Precision tone and style but a Warwick neck. And I'd be wasting lots of wonga on things I'd never use if I went Warwick. I think it's the waste that troubles me most. Feel free to recommend a passive 5 string with the mother of all necks (depth not width).
There's always a few passive Streamer Standards knocking about (i sold my 5 for about £200), lovely Warwick neck and a passive humbucker. I sold mine cos it looked like a Warwick but sounded like a Precision! The only controls are a volume (with push/pull) and tone

Erm... Wonderwall? Ok it's for a party and they requested 2 oasis tunes so have to learn it. The last one i actually wanted to learn was magnificent seven by the clash, cracking bassline that

Fender Mexican Jazz vs. American Highway 1 Jazz
lemmywinks replied to tinsoldier's topic in Bass Guitars
I tried a few MIM Jazz basses about a year ago along with MIA and Squiers. In terms of how they felt in my hands the MIM was a lot closer to the Squier than the MIA, in fact it felt a bit cheaper (the scratchplate on a sunburst one i played was particularly ugh, was rough around the edges). However they do seem to be very popular so maybe i just got hold of a few bad eggs. If money is an issue, try a Squier with a decal change.... IMO it's as genuine a Fender as the MIM one! -

Cheers guys, think halfs sound like the first port of call when i get around to string shopping. I was gonna mention 'rays as all the fretless ones i've seen have pau ferro 'boards, what strings are they shipped with? Also where do you guys get Status Hotwires? I've not bought strings online for a bit! EDIT: Anybody know what D'Addario ENR71 Half Round Reg. Lt Ga. Bass Stirngs sound like? They seem cheap enough for me to give em a go
Typical - bad timing from a drummer again!!! He never mentioned it. Right - extra classes for him tomorrow!
Make him cut that bl@@dy stupid chuck norris hair off as well, p1sses me right off by flicking it about all the time like he's in a shampoo ad!
Hiya people, I play a MM 4 string and keep tormenting myself with a MM 5 string in the music shop. I can't afford one (or play one for that matter) but fancy maybe a cheapo copy to tinker with. I notice on the 'bay' that there is a 'Stratavarious' MM5 (type copy) for about £120 new, delivered and wondered if anyone has any views on either those or the Vintage copies. Cheers, Si.
You should have said Si, i sold my OLP MM3 5 string for £100 with gig bag a couple of months back! Think i even told our simon to tell you about it! Mind you, that would involve relying on a drummer...............
Larry Graham... (Sly and the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, Prince) Have a look about for his instructional video. It's a good laugh - the man's totally mad! There's some good instructional stuff on youtube too. Have a look for a user called 'marlowedk'.
Is that the one where he starts playing "aint no fun to me" with the massive scream? That's awesome! There's also a cracking version of POW on youtube, look out for the 'fro!

My most expensive instrument is my Zoot Deluxe Custom. I paid £710 for it (with flightcase), which is not a lot for a custom luthier built instrument. At first i thought it had more features than i need and that i wouldn't be using stuff like the D-tuner or the high pass switch, but they come in handy. Plus it's got shedloads of ebony on it
Just try MC 900ft jesus, quaanum & Jurassic 5. you will love them........Hip Hop is like any other music nowadays there is some amazing hidden Gems but is over shadowed by the "Me- money-Me-Money-me-bitches-me-bitches-Me-Hoes-Me-Hoes-Me-Cars-me-Cars-ooo-Did-EYE-TELL-YOU-I-HAVE-....repeat"Crap....grrrrr
I always loved De La Soul! There's something about Eye Know that makes it a joy to listen, it's one of the most beautifully simple tunes i've ever heard. Always puts a big stupid grin on my dish every time it comes on! It's the same with Mr. Wendal, although i listened to Arested Development's entire back catalogue and didn't like anything on there apart from People Everyday

There's an ampeg 8x10 on here for £300 i think! Stick the Hartke head on top of that and you'd have a monster rig for well under budget

There has to be a minimum for a USA MM though, even if a ray sells at under £600 i think half that for a SUB is unreasonable. If i bought a SUB for £400 i'd be very happy with it, if i sold one for any less i'd be gutted! Btw i can actually get a SUB for less than that, my housemate is selling a SUB 4 if anyone knows a potential buyer? I think he paid around £600, so with an ABS case (the bass is pretty much as new) i think it should fetch £400

Just out of interest, is that a non-standard mains plug coming out of the back?
-
I was under the impression that the perceived (pre credit crunch) re-sale value of a SUB was ~£350. Some nice Rays have been seen to go sub 500 lately. It just don't add up.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=330273275945 EDIT: Just realised you have an eerily similar rig to me, LMII, schroeder cab, korg tuner, FX25b, JD bass wah...... I was thinking of buying my mate's SUB a few months back too!
-
One went for £465 plus £16p+p last week. It was in an ABS case with genuine 'ray scratchplate. I'll try dig out the link somewhere, there was quite a bit of interest in it seeing as genuine rays struggle to fetch not much more!
AFAIK Hartke amps have always been made in the Far East, even the early models? (Used to have initials on back panel stating made in 'PROC' or maybe 'PROK',either China or Korea etc.) Hartke advertising used to strongly imply it was all USA manufactured despite this I believe. Not that its a problem for me - great sounding amps at great prices and reliable too in my experience. With the new range looks like they're on to a winner. Some of my favourite players have used 'em too-Jack Bruce at the Cream reunion gigs, and Gary Tallent with The E Street Band.
The earlier HA series were USA, as were the Kickback combos a few years ago. My housemate has a USA Kickback 15" and it's noticeably better quality. All the A and B series are chinese though AFAIK
