1. I had barts in my Squier Standard Jazz and i thought they sounded fantastic, made a cracking bass even better! The ones i had were 9J or something like that. Sold em to bassmandan when i decided i didn't need the Squier so give him a shout.
2. Only 6 bids and not even £400? That neck is to die for!
3.
I've concluded that he plays cheesy music and he looks like Super Mario.
4. Got someone interested in the head so with any luck it'll just be the 2 cabs for sale although nothing's concrete yet! EDIT: Cheers Steve, it is a big ass rig! And happy birthday darbs!
5. £300 for an ampeg tower? Times is hard!
6.
The LH series are part of the new HyDrive rigs, don't think they're replacing the HA series.
I think they may eventually phase them out though, obviously there's still some stock to shift but the HA5500 is competing with the littlemark etc price-wise and pretty much all Hartke's production has been shifted to china now, so i think they're going the ultra budget route. As a plus point this means bass players have a well-built and good-sounding alternative to behringer! As a minus it means all of us who paid £500+ for our amps aren't getting half of that back
7.
I've got the amp! That was fast. It's in great condition - I guess an amp like this hasn't had to put up with too many rockn'roll gigs. It's a little later in the evening than I'd want to crank it up with the double bass, but I've given it a quick check with my fretless electric. It's very, very clean and flat sounding, like DIing into a desk, so much so that it really shows up the deadness of my strings! Good high end clarity though. I can imagine using some kind of preamp to get a more characterful sound for electric, but I reckon it'll be great with the double bass. Reverb is nice too, i can picture using it with bowed DB.
Sounds like an absolute steal then!
8. Hartke A70, ended up gigging with it 4 times, always through the PA but was loud enough to keep up with the 2 drummers i used it with. Wouldn't stand a chance with our current tub-thumping ogre though!
9.
Winner is who bids most first, so they are only gonna beat you if they bid more than you. I always bid as early as I decide how much I'm willing to spend. Which is rarely very much. I've snagged quite a few nice things, and for silly low bids. Scored a P copy with EMGs in it for a very low bid. You can only get lucky if you chance it.
I'm the same, though not with bass stuff. Everything bass-wise i've watched has gone for a lot more than i was willing to pay (bar one bass, which i won!) Snagged a fully working laptop (bar the battery) with decent spec and XP licence for £35 a few months ago, typing on it now! Worth it for the 60gig hard drive!
10. I bought my Zoot bass then registered on here a few days later. Just out of interest searched the forum for zoot basses and found the original owner!
11. Billy Gould from Faith No More. Was my favourite bass player for ages. Check out Live At The Brixton Academy. Some cool distortion on War Pigs and massive phaser/flanger style sweeps on Epic
12. I'm completely happy with my rig. Finally a bass i've always wanted (and one that actually lives up to expectations too) A tiny amp and speaker that has a myriad of excellent sounds, fills the room and is incredibly simple to use Don't think i'll be buying another bass for a few years now, might consider swapping one of my others Definitely won't sell any part of my rig and am consistently impressed with it from gig to gig
13. My houstmate has decided to pack in playing bass and has asked me to sell his Musicman SUB active 4 string for him. It's the one in the bluey colour and is in excellent condition. He's never gigged with it and in fact has hardly played it. I borrowed it for 2-3 gigs when my Warwick developed a fault, in fact it's only on it's second set of strings! It has some pitting on the crescent control plate and a tiny ding on the headstock (which has been coloured so not noticeable). Think the pitting came from being left in the case for months. It comes in a gator style hard case which he paid £70 for. I don't know what the going rate for these is but one just went on ebay for over £450 so he'd be looking for over £400 for a quick sale. I'll get some pics up (it's at his folks' at the moment) and get a definite price once i speak to him Ta!
14. All quality information, thanks again! Think i'll try the half rounds and see if i like em. Don't think i'd coat the fingerboard on this bass, i'm considering it on my other fretless as it's always gonna be my "try it out" bass. I guess that's a different thread though and there's probably a wealth of information on this site already so i'll get searching!
15.
Point 1 - Imagine you've spotted something tasty on ebay, ideally something that has been listed in an incorrect category or with a misspelling in the title that won't show up in a search (ie instead of Fender - Gender etc), you are watching it with the intention of sniping a bid at the last minute and picking up a bargain. Lo-and-behold someone on this forum comes on shouting about this 'potential bargain'... you aren't going to particularly impressed now that the bass playing community know about it and no doubt a few people will take a punt on it, thereby bumping the price. Flagging a normal auction 'bargain' that you've spotted is NOT particularly conducive to getting a bargain Point 2 - They are meant to be quite uncoloured (odd that they are described as 'warm' then ) and they are certainly small, light and portable. WoT used the big brother of one of these with various preamp pedals and it sounded pretty good to me.
If something's got a really cheap BIN it's fair game though? In that situation i'd rather someone off here bagged it, spread the love an all that!
16. My Warwick Corvette is my back up. It used to be my main bass but since the acquisition of my Zoot it's been relegated to the back of the stage. I don't actually need it but can't part with it as it was my first "proper" bass and i've done hundreds of gigs with it. Still use it as my main bass at some of the more unsavoury venues we play Edited for morning-after-the-gig typos!
17.
I think the "centre line" refered to was meant to be "the compromise between flats and rounds; grounds"...
Ah, excuse my stupidity then!
18. Ok i'll take the small stone then. cheque ok? If so lemme know the postage cheers!
19.
I still say try halfs - I use Status Hotwires. Fretless vibrato can be played classical style by rolling your fingers up and down the string rather than bending.
Ok, think i'll try em. Cheers dudes!
20.
I'd have to have a look, yeah thanks for the replies fellas, i have to say I'm not unhappy cos it is a fabulous sound bass so as you rightly point out, value is very personal cheers
Corvettes have always been a cracking bass for the money. There was a 5 on ebay recently that had an amazingly figured body and went for more than the usual. If you're happy with it then it's a good buy!
