Tanglewood and Vintage have been doing 3+1 (and 4+1 on the 5) for donkeys' years. Westfield, J&D and SX also did 3+1.

Need help with an Aria Sinsonido bass electronics
lemmywinks replied to K Barad's topic in Repairs and Technical
The noise is a little offputting and even if you're very careful with your technique it's still present, I'm going to see if I can lessen it with the 5khz brilliance control on my Fishman Platinum Pro. I've just received a Zoom MS60b today and briefly tried it with my Sinsonido, using the Fishman and Punch Factory patches (AcBsPre and OptComp) gets good results. -

The next string I'm going to try are black nylons but ideally I'd be looking at no more heavier than 50-115, not sure how feasible thicker gauges would be with the Sinsonido headstock. Prices are off-putting though, looking at £70+£100 for Labella, D'addario or GHS. -

I'll try an cobble something together after these strings have bedded in, being a nylon core they take a bit of playing in to hold their tuning, also why they don't work with magnetic pickups! I have similar strings on my little Ibanez Artcore parlour bass (D'Addario EXPPBB190GS) which is my most fun bass to play around the house. I think I got quite lucky fitting Aliexpress sources bridge/piezo arrangement as string balance seems to be fine whatever strings I use and the intonation is much better with the angled saddle which I tried to place as far back as possible, always an issue on the fretted Sinsonido as they tend to go a fair bit sharp up the neck. -
That's probably more use to me than a volume control tbh, great idea.

Bought some Thomastik strings, arrived quickly and great guy to deal with!

Just got my Sinsonido strung up with Thomastik Acousticore strings designed for piezo equipped basses - they really suit the bass and are ideal if you want something quite lively but still retaining that mellow/acoustic vibe. Mine has a piezo bridge/analog workshop preamp but I imagine they'd work fine with the standard configuration. What strings are you guys using on the fretless version? -
These don't do anything for me but I don't get the reactions, that sparkle one looks fine to me and the other pics just look like flat renders which don't show contouring and rounded edges. Ripping MM off a lot, Lakland off a bit but still looking different enough. Will most likely be a much better option than the financially comparable offering from Musicman.

I'll be redoing the wiring at the same time, got a box full of random pots and caps so I should be able to conjure up a P bass harness.

The price of the Warman was quite attractive, £19 delivered is half the Tonerider.
-
Ordered the Tonerider, oddly cheaper to buy it from North West Guitar Parts than directly but that seems to be the winner. Not much less than what the bass is worth but hopefully it should give it some more authority.

Cheers guys, I'll have a look at those. She likes Queen, Abba, Bowie etc but also modern pop.

My daughter is starting lessons soon and wil be using her old Tanglewood Elfin 30" bass I bought her a while ago, it's decent enough and is a good size for her but the pickup is weedy - low output and lacking decent bottom end. Is there a decent low cost upgrade, sorta up to £30 ish? The bass itself is worth about £50-£60 Seen Wilkinson, Tonerider, Entwistle etc but I'm not a P bass guy and don't know what's what really. The last P pickup upgrade I did was back in the Sue Ryder days!

Can anyone explain the Musicman Stingray series to me?
lemmywinks replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't get why they recycled the old USA made SUB name for the new (presumably Chinese) cheaper basses, also why did they reuse the Sterling name for their entire cheaper line when they have a specific USA made model of bass already using it? So you can have a Sterling by Musicman SUB bass (the Ray4/5) which has nothing to do with the original SUB line and isn't the Sterling body/neck shape. Makes no sense. -
Pickup Replacement Clip Plug Help! (Yamaha)
lemmywinks replied to d_g's topic in Repairs and Technical
These are the ones I have: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334539053705 If they're not the ones (they look slightly different) then just do a Google image search for "2 pin board connector" and you should see something that looks right. -

I'll probably have one of those knocking about, wait a sec... -
Collection only auctions for commonplace items are always a risk, seller would have been better off listing the amp with postage at a reasonable BIN and flogging the cab locally.

Are Overlord of Music headless bass bridges that bad?
lemmywinks replied to rwillett's topic in Accessories and Misc
There's also another bridge which uses a roller system, tbh I've thought about this one for conversions where the bridge is placed quite far back on the body and regular headless bridges would protrude. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802039467162.html https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802700546368.html Just noticed this one as well, roller style again but doesn't need a hex key to adjust: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804119404535.html -

Active PA Cabs, What have you got and are they any good?
lemmywinks replied to Chienmortbb's topic in PA set up and use
We're still using Alto at the moment, 2 x Alto TS210 and a single (I think) TS15S, we downgraded from a full RCF735 setup (with two massive RCF subs) and the Alto stuff was meant to be a stopgap but they perform really well so we haven't upgraded yet. Crazy cheap for what you get and can handle a full band in decent rooms.
