It looks jarring on this one as the fretboard is very dark, on the standard EHB100x series it doesn't stick out so much as the fretboard and neck wood are a similar colour: Would have looked a lot better with the panga panga / walnut neck from the 1505 and 1265 basses.

Thought exactly this when I first saw it, otherwise it looks great.

When we were looking for our XR18 desk it was mid covid and out of stock everywhere, DV247's lead time was noticeably shorter than everyone else's but was still being pushed back long after I'd sourced one from a smaller retailer. I reckon they'll get them the same time as everyone else.
-
DV247 have it listed as stock expected on 12th Jan, they may be lying though. Last time I had to wait for stock on Thomann it was a few weeks early, same with Gear4Music so it might not be as long as you think.

Keyboard player is a mate I've known since Primary School so we socialise a lot outside band stuff, singer has been with us for about 6 years and we do socialise with her as well. Guitarist and drummer are both quite new and live in a different area so not so much there, nice lads though and just a logistics thing really. Our old guitarist is also a mate I've known for years as well, plenty of shared pub time between us!

You'll most likely be able to put the D'Addario EXPPBB190GS as used on the Taylor GS Mini basses on that as well, they're for ~24" scale. Like a bass version of the wrapped classical guitar strings.. Although it's a fun toy and I've been playing it a lot I'll probably move the Batking on at some point for something that can take more conventional strings.

Atelier do a baby 5 string in 30" scale, price will be high and looks like it will have the same weight/balance issues as the TMB35 though. Might be worth ordering the little Ibanez Mikro and waiting a few weeks for stock.

This Royal Mail strike is really something....

That's been the plan and a tiered healtchcare system is already here. We just convinced my mum to go private for her operation after witnessing the state of our local NHS hospital first hand. It's collapsed completely, can't offer assessment/treatment even for an hemorrhaging 81yr old woman rushed to A&E. People who can afford it will receive a good standard of healthcare, everybody else had better just hope they don't get ill. Saw this earlier today and it reminded me of this thread. -
Harley Benton MV-4M Mustang-like bass. £198. Opinions?

Lobster just modded his with chrome covered Dimarzios, worth doing just for the improved aesthetics IMO but also sounds great. Thought the P/J format on such a small body was a little cluttered but this looks great. -
Mine arrived on the 23rd, the A string was also bulging off the tuner post so took a bit of length off it. There's a few little construction foibles like the A string nut slot needing smoothing out and a little bit of tear out on one of the bridge holes, nothing major. Mine also has a truss rod, sounds very good amplified and the onboard tuner is pretty accurate. What's the colour on you guys' ones like compared to the listing and the Ukulele Wales lady's? Mine seems a shade or two lighter, not quite the dark stain she has.

There's a big thread over on TB which lists nut widths IIRC.

Playing whilst Sick (Tales/regrets when the show went on..)
lemmywinks replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
Played with pretty bad sickness and diarrhea, was consciously trying to speed up the last few songs of the first set as it was touch and go but fortunately no on stage accidents. Also played with a fractured left clavicle and had to have the strap of my 11.6lb Sire over my right shoulder only which was interesting, have bought a much lighter bass since then! -
These are usually £700-£800 I think, German shop zzoundhouse has a few in stock for a silly price. Even with duty/DHL fee it shouldn't be much over £400 all in so basically half price. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325383923819?hash=item4bc264a86b:g:5TkAAOSwifFjIuoL Possibly a listing error as their other Rockbass Aliens are full price.

In the main yes but there's plenty of original and successful bass designs out there, just most people seem glued to the same old shapes which is a bit frustrating. RE the Ashdown basses I just don't see the point in bringing out a range of basses so similar to what the market is already flooded with. Even with the Gibson 335 copy there's already several similar basses (Epi JC, Warwick Star, Chowny etc) to satisfy that limited market and none of those have the wonky look that the Ashdown one does.
-
The closest thing he's had to an original bass design is the 44-02 which was basically a modified Fender with some MusicMan bits. The D Lakin basses are just straight up Fender clones, albeit sometimes with slightly different pickup options. Shouldn't be a surprise that the Ashdown basses have ripped off Fender, Reverend (which in turn are very Fender imspired) and Gibson, in fact they did Gibson last time around with that T-Bird copy.. Would be nice to see an original Ashdown bass but there's two issues with that - they'd have to get someone to design it for them and it would probably bomb in terms of sales regardless of how good it looked.

The Ibanez 1005SMS might be worth a look, 30"-32" scale, will weigh next to nothing and is already headless so no dive. Around a grand new but they drop a fair bit of value second hand, one on Facebook for £550 at the moment: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/528215912522450/?hoisted=false&ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Adb6a1fad-90c2-42ee-aac5-0562656f9e20

Was that the eBay bargain from a bit ago?
-
At the budget end an Aria GT can be had for next to nothing, one on eBay for £140 at the moment if you're local, seller's pics don't do it justice as they're very pretty basses. MM pickup but with an Aerodyne/P style body and Aria's standard F-style neck so somewhere between a P and a J, more of a slim P. Very underrated basses.

Just a heads up the FUN10 10% expires on 22/12 and the 5% seller discount expires on 23/12, as well as there being 3 left it might be worth buying now and thinking about it later. Well at least that's what I did and this is most likely some sort of attempt to rationalise it.
-
That's showing for me as well, auto applies an extra £5.66 as well as the FUN10 10% discount. So now there's only 3 left. Don't even need it, however it will do as a stopgap until I source a fretless parlour bass.
-
There's 5 available from this seller for £113 delivered, if you have the current FUN10 code (I do and am trying hard not to buy one) they're £102: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363555959883

This is an obvious lie, if you crashed your Volvo in your drive you would be fixing the garden wall, not the car.

Love this finish, what's it called?

Looks like our favourite 'luthier' may have a rival.......!

Maybe our young protege could take a lesson from the master and install a rail type pickup from John Hutchinson of Janika Guitars in Nottingham?
