Never had an issue selling 5 strings, I always price them to sell but not too cheap. Hope I've not just jinxed myself as I'll most likely be putting my EHB 5er up for sale soon!

Went old school last night (peavey/hartke content)

I had the HA3000 before getting the HA5500, preferred the 3000 really as it was so easy to dial mids in with the two knobs. -

Hartke never really managed to get the lightweight head thing right, certainly not in time for a big shift in the market where manufacturers needed one in their product line to compete. By the time they managed to get the TX600 out it quickly garnered a reputation for being surprisingly gutless for its power rating despite being bigger than other micro heads, no idea what they're like now but assume that's sorted. Shame really as I loved my old Hartke stack and only sold it because of the weight and the need to downsize our van. Having to cart a HA5500 and a ful XL stack across a muddy farmer's field at stupid o'clock in the morning was the turning point! -

Will most likely spend my lunchtime looking for another HA3000 on eBay now FFS. -

Gotta give some credit to those old Hartke heads too which just consistently deliver the goods. -
Nicely specced bass here for not a lot of money if you can collect - Markbass pre, Panga Panga and Walnut neck, licensed Hipshot Ultralites. Should be lightweight with a good low B as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127101673259

Active Bass Recommendations - Possibly a Spector?

Add a bit to your budget and you could order this today: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/spector-ns-pulse-ii-4-black-stain-matte/ -

A used Spector NS Pulse might be your best bet if you want a "proper" specced Spector within budget. Reverse P at the neck, EMGs and the Tonepump pre, made in Korea still I think. -

Ideally you need to play a lot of basses to nail down what will suit you. I would add MTD Kingston Z series, high end Ibanez (pref with Nordstrands) and German Warwicks to your list, all of which can be had used for your budget. -
Had the same head but with a 1212R, Markbass + Schroeder is one of my most missed rigs. Just sounded like they were made to go together, possibly the great big walloping low mid hump of the Schroeder patching a hole in the MB EQ.

Buy a desk fan FFS.

Some wild takes being spouted on here veering into misinformation/disinformation. Amps are fine, they're fun to use and if you enjoy the preset eq voicing, the way your cab reproduces that and can hear it well enough on all the stages you play then great, enjoy yourself. I have a traditional bass rig I very much like (two of them in fact) and I enjoy using them at rehearsals/dep gigs. IEMs are fine, they're fun to use and with a digitial desk you can eq your bass however you want it, if you know what you're doing the scope for sculpting your sound is staggering and that's before you add in any external preamps, pedals or bass specific processing units. You have consistency on every stage you play no matter if you're stuck in a corner or have acres of space, the level of control is unsurpassed and in no time you can get a great personalised mix at whatever volume you choose. For all live work with my main band I'm going through the PA straight from my DI so it doesn't matter to me, I can do either but always pick IEMs for sound quality and practicality. For cramped pub stages where you're right on top of your amp they're a total gamechanger. The first time I saw bands playing without cabs on stage it did look a little weird but after a couple of times I didn't notice it at all, just another way to gig which often has significant advantages over the using amps for individual backline.

It's just another portal for the same builders on AliExpress. I wouldn't buy anything off there unless you're happy with fretboard radiusing and refretting tbh as you might get something which looks nice but hasn't been built correctly, especially if you're aiming for the cheapest bass that matches the aesthetic you want. If you want a cheap version of his Jazz Bass Special or Signature bass then a 90s Aria Pro II (maybe with an aftermarket neck) like this might be up your street: https://reverb.com/item/19560539-1991-aria-pro-ii-fb-bass-white For the Aerodyne Jazz look at Gear4Music's LA Select line (they also do a P copy): https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/LA-II-Select-Bass-Guitar-by-Gear4music-Black-Burst/3L4L

It looks like that particular builder mainly focuses on retro chic styled 6 electric guitars with the odd bass model, they don't do a 5 string bass as standard. It doesn't surprise me that they failed at making the correct decision RE the pickup, chances are they'd already bought the parts and built the bass before realising it didn't work properly.
-
The demo on the FS post (if it is the same one) mentions there's no compression as well, you can clearly hear how quiet the low B is and that would be immediately noticeable to anybody owning the bass. I think the seller needs to step up here tbh, unfortunately the bass has goofy pickup surrounds so there may not be an easy fix which retains the overall look of the bass. If you're ok with tighter string spacing then maybe swap the bridge out for something which allows for that like a Schaller 3D etc? What's the spacing at the moment?
-
What pickup is in there at the moment and what's the size of the rout? Has the original builder acknowledged the pickup does not have appropriate coverage for the string splay he built the bass with? Bartolini do blade pickups in various shapes, in some models the 4 and 5 string versions are the same length so you could find a suitable drop in replacement with no need for routing.

If you're worried about damaging loaned cabs then your overall volume and low end content are more important than watt rating, you can blow drivers with comparatively low power amps if you're an idiot - ask me how I know! Most micro amps will have some sort of built in HPF to remove extreme lows, I'd guess rolling off sharply at around 30hz or something like that. Just listen for speakers distorting (may be harder if you have a driven sound) and roll off the volume/bass as needed. For something tiny which might get close-ish to your big amp the TC RH series or Orange Terror Bass might be worth looking at, they're small class D amps which are designed to sound closer to old school valve amps but go about it in different ways - the Orange uses a valve pre you can drive and the TC uses a digital approach which seeks to emulate valve compression/saturation. RH series are usually dirt cheap on the used market, should be able to grab an RH750 for £200-£250.

How far have you travelled to pick up a Bass?
lemmywinks replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Just over 80 miles to pick up a Warwick Streamer from Wigan, did 400 to collect some Markbass cabs from Milton Keynes though which was more of a trek. I usually just wait until the thing I want appears closer to home as I don't like driving for more than an hour or so and train prices are silly. -
Looks very similar to the Joyo MA-10B.

It's quite clearly a reshaped Harley Benton headstock. Bunch of amateurs.

Gear4Music have it at the same price but with free delivery so £6 cheaper, est delivery later this month although that might be a lie as Thomann (same price as Andertons) also say end of June: https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Behringer-FLOW-8-8-Channel-Digital-Mixer/3N67?utm_campaign=surfaces_across_google

Looks brilliant, very useful combination of physical and digital controls in a small form factor. Micro USB power connector in 2025 though?
