Thanks, I did have a quick test with some buffing compound and a cloth which got good results, doesn't sound like mine is as bad as that, just some grey streaks and the odd bit of wear.

That looks quite interesting, seems like the piezo has its own little buffer preamp on a separate board before hitting the preamp, looks like it has individual trim pots for each saddle too. Means you could swap the main preamp out easily if needed.

What preamp does it have? Will most likely be a variation on the old in house Cort preamp they put in their older piezo equipped basses which works really well, they used to slap a Fishman license on it.

I'm not sure lemon oil would do much to ebanol as it isn't wood, this thread mentioned car buffing compound: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/polishing-ebonol.955567/ The neck is the same as mine, a Mighty Mite unlined ebanol board with white marks from using roundwounds. I've decided to buy a new bridge and wire it up as a piezo free passive bass to sell as a complete instrument now so maybe a bit of player wear is less of an issue.

Put Elixirs on my EHB1505, need a little 80hz boost but sound is really crisp and the highs are a lot smoother. My two most played basses are Ibanez now, the little Artwood parlour acoustic is my go to noodling bass and the EHB is no1 live. Considering getting a 1005 as my backup bass.

He has very little control over his own life so this probably reduces that feeling, every £ he makes gets compulsively handed over to the bookies.

I had one, maple active '77. Loved the look of it (which was why I bought it) but hated the sound and overall playability, replaced it with a Warwick which knocked it out of the park and was about half the weight. Felt like it was made out of lead which was compounded by the fact they they only look good on a long strap so it's even worse on your shoulder.

Gambling is a weird one, right at the front of socially acceptable addictions so often flies under the radar but is no less destructive for all involved. A friend of my dad burned through his early retirement payout in a year, was in excess of £40k back in the mid to late 90s so not a small sum. All went on the horses. Combine that with someone who has no qualms about morally questionable behaviour and you end up with total disasters like this.

I always find it weird when someone can have the expertise to build a neck, shape a body and achieve a decent standard of finish but just have zero eye for what looks good in the most basic sense. That bottom one looks like it's half way there - has some lines that flow nicely across the centre line but then the builder ruins it with that bottom horn and the odd choice of how the upper horn joins the body.

So that's the root of it then. Ripping off musicians, venues and families going on holiday to go to the bookies FFS.

The TH500 and GS410 are enough for any regular pub gig without PA support, you don't need to present a 4ohm load to the amp so no need to buy any more kit as what you have is already more than adequate. In fact it would be more than what most people on here gig with. I'm certain this is input gain related.

Does anybody remember the one of these (Tennessee branded but just another AliExpress special) floating around on eBay a few years ago? The owner had tried to mod it into an acceptable instrument by throwing decent pickups and custom string sets at it but it was a total mess. Started off at some silly price and gradually got discounted to the point where it was probably worth it for the parts if you wanted a handy portable ironing board.

Plug the bass straight into the TH500 and use a single cab. Set the eq flat, the -10db button out and drive to 0, set the gain until the clip light comes on then back it off a little until it doesn't. If it still sounds bad/quiet then try with the 2x10. Sounds like an input gain issue to me so pay attention to the bit in bold.

Yeah I quite like it, a bit more phallic than a regular Dolphin. If it was close to me I'd be having a look at it, looks to be some bodgery around the nut and I imagine the bridge pickup isn't going to sound great that far back though.

No issues carrying either Gator case, 6'6" though so while it can never sit low enough to hit the back of my legs it has to be taken off to get through doors. I use a headless now in the guitar version of the Pro Go and that's much easier. Carried the bass version with my Sire in 2.5 miles home from a local gig before. The Gigblade cases were meant to solve that problem but reports from people that used them usually said the opposite.
