Any suggestions for a 1 x 8" cab for practice?
lemmywinks replied to Bass Culture's topic in Amps and Cabs
The Trace 1x10 cabs are very compact small boxes - 12" x 12.5" x 14", unfortunately they only do the 1x8 in combo form. -
Seemed more like an advert for the Warwick custom shop than a gear demo, I suppose if you have that sort of money to throw around and that's what you want then why not. Looking at his channel he is/was a gigging player and already has a custom 7 string Thumb. He's a Warwick endorsing artist but that probably stems from chucking 5 figures at their custom shop on more than one occasion.

Nice looking bass there.

Can't do a NBD without pics, you know the rules!

I gigged a Chinese Aria IGB55 for a while which had what I presume to be the same MM pickup, sounded brilliant. Swapped it out for a Seymour Duncan Basslines as one came up cheap (can turn down £30!) but there wasn't that much of a difference tbh.

Get some pics up then!

Harley Benton HBZ-2005FL NT Deluxe Series FRETLESS
lemmywinks replied to carlsim's topic in Bass Guitars
Bridge might be a little too far back to make it a decent headless conversion as the tuners will stick out a fair bit. Might be worth waiting for a used BZ5000 to turn up instead which is the more upmarket version but also looks to have more space behind the bridge Also all the HBZ/BZ 5 strings have tight spacing, think it's 16.5mm which put me off. -
It's been on eBay for ages that, the last revision to the listing was back in 2021. Seller has probably sold it, forgot it was listed and is just ignoring your messages. They also only have 2 feedback and I'm assuming the recent negative one is yours! There's another one listed which might be worth watching and waiting for a price drop: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255990565923?hash=item3b9a3a0c23:g:ncsAAOSwAg9i1l2-&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAkL%2FW9z0teV%2B5X8nxlbgeeI8yTQJohusq94RZAwMUhwMLaUZrhSSfBR7VXiSZ6ijsF2V8lB6%2ByPVGzVshUEqORPd3%2Bpyp%2BJHwtcv8LB0KL4gKUwNJTnRCkORm1oQVPMAoY9LYJThkQhEFbTTSFIFwU8h6corDyDeGWdw2Ug2QSG9FwYATFtBabeIobhNxHhasoQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_z_-6HUYQ Not one of the nice tops though, some of them look like this: I think @Bassassin has/had a very nice one as well.

What spares and backup do you take to a gig?
lemmywinks replied to makk509's topic in General Discussion
I take a spare cheap bass which has a spare cable, Behringer BDI21, strings, power adapter, spare in-ears and batteries in its gigbag pocket. My tablet for my personal monitor control can run the full XAir software in case the main tablet goes down so we have a built in backup plan there. Don't use amps so just take two bass gigbags (well one is guitar as it's for a headless!) which I can fit all my stuff in. -
Been on eBay for ages that one, supposed to be excellent basses. Some had beautiful tops, can't see much from those awful photos so you might get a nice surprise. Arias always seem to punch a fair bit above their weight, just an unfashionable name which (along with the photos) is probably why that one has hung around for a bit.

There's a Warwick Corvette Proline with Nordstrand pickups and pre on Facebook for £750 I've been ogling this week.

Looks great that, well done! -
Haha thought it was the same one, can't remember what I did last week but can remember that!

Is that the one you stripped the finish off years ago?

I think this has been mentioned on here before - the Gator gigbags are fine if you're tall. I'm 6'6" and have been walked from the next town over with a ProGo deluxe containing an 11.6lb bass and all my other gig crap, probably half an hour or something. I can get through doors but it involves dipping my knees and leaning forward a bit!

This struck me as a rather 'interesting' bass...
lemmywinks replied to Orbs's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I like the way he's stuck a 21 fret neck on what was originally a 24 fret bass, realised he can't mount the bridge correctly as a result of that but instead of correcting the mistake he's carried on, left the bridge hanging off and slapped his "perfect balance" schtick on it. Even with a 24 fret neck the bridge is right up against the edge of the body: When he originally knocked this bass together I had a look at sold listings and found it was parted out, I think he also bought the neck (all went for low money btw) so this is again just tinkering for the sake of it with no end goal. Just swapping parts out without any consideration as to how they will work together and ending up with something completely mental. -
The Mk1 pickups are ok, they're usually paired with the Mk1 preamp which is the real weak link however yours has an Ibanez preamp so not surprising it sounds better. I imagine the Mk1 pickups are more suited to a fretless as well, a lot of people buy Ibanez/Cort basses with them in expecting something more modern sounding but those licensed Barts ar emore at home with more traditional tones.

Mr Phillips' creations have a storied history here. On this particular one I like the way he's cut the nut slots to give you the option of fitting four low B strings if desired: -
I used an Ikea Brada laptop stand with my old Markbass head, could tilt the cab at around 45 degrees with no issues. Hooks over the front of the cab, amp sits on the main bit and the little lip at the other end (where the front of the laptop is on this pic) stops it from falling off. Imagine it would be easy to cut down for the Gnome.

Looks tidy enough, I don't get on with the look of Riks at all but quite like 'em headless. -

Would make for a very interesting restoration project. That neck heel though!
