  1. We originally had a 2.4ghz router for our XR18 but found we had speed issues and disconnects in a lot of places, ended up going with a Huawei 5ghz router which can be picked up for around £20 delivered. Chose that one because it was the most compact one I could find with the least spidery antenna, important for us as it has to fit inside a 3u shallow rack bag with all the other stuff!
  2. Very brave comment to make on public forum but I'm not sure what this has to do with bass tuners 😁
  3. Some manufacturers provide spec sheets, Gotoh list the inner hole diameter as 3mm on Res-O-Lite and GB tuners. Wilkinson seem to provide a datasheet but don't give that measurement which is unfortunate as the WJB750 would be a nice, cost-effective upgrade for these.
  4. Saw this pop up on Facebook before, looks absolutely fantastic.
  5. Thanks that's very helpful, I usually use D'addario EXL165-5 on my main bass . I'm considering swapping out my backup bass for something a bit more like my main bass in terms of pickups and string spacing (JJ and 18mm) so this looks like a good candidate, shame about the neck pickup rout (I hate white scratchplates!) but it isn't a dealbreaker.. Not sure why the P version is passive yet also more expensive though.
  6. Nice one thanks, what's the low B like? Watched Lobster's quick demo and it didn't sound great on his. I like that they do the JJ with a cheap active circuit in there as it gives you an easy upgrade route for a better preamp, I have a spare Artec SE3p knocking around which would turn this into a nice backup bass.
  7. Try both and see which sounds best, also compare the weight as heavy old combos can be an awkward schlep. Worth checking the Ashdown has the original drivers in as well going by the state of it and also worth seeing if either is making farting/rasping sounds.

    Cab Riser

I used the Ikea laptop stand on my old Markbass Club cabs which have a near 45 degree tilt so I wouldn't worry about anything falling off. A lot of the time the angled cab was stacked on top of the other too, still no movement. I did put the rubber grip mat on the underside of the stand too so it gripped the cab tolex and dampened vibrations.
  9. I've heard great sounding players, terrible ones and everything inbetween regardless of amp choices. Last wedding band I saw (they had just a pair of small Turbosound tops, no sub) the bass player was using a bog standard passive Jazz through a MarkBass AC combo plonked on the floor and he filled the room with it, sounded huge with loads of body and definition.
  10. I think that was on eBay a while ago. Seems like all they've added most of the saved length back on to the rear of the bass, that's probably only a few cm shorter than it was before.
  11. Probably the worst thing about a conventional amp setup to what I use now is that on bass amps there's no volume control for the snare or keyboards. Manufacturers should think about adding this feature in.
  12. This all day long, there's no going back. We're using a cheap PA (all Alto stuff) now that the RCF gear has gone and it's doing a great job for the pub/club circuit, so good in fact that it's a bit of a relief we don't have to upgrade in a hurry and it's much lighter as well. Even the single small sub kicks out some decent low end in a big room.
  13. I just use a mini USB mixing desk, this one: https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Soundcraft-Notepad-5-Analog-USB-Mixer/1XK3?origin=product-ads&gclid=CjwKCAjwgr6TBhAGEiwA3aVuIaoFQOp56U4E2tixeCgA8xU_6hMIWa7Sibsru6mEH8HogkqeOoPwsBoCNjEQAvD_BwE No tuner but can play audio over USB and the mic preamp sounds great.
  14. With modern amp repair for micro heads you're probably out of the realm of traditional amp techs and would be better off taking it to someone who does laptop repairs or similar, people who work on far more complex boards (often without schematics) which are many times more delicate and time consuming to disassemble than a bass head. You'll probably find a lot of these guys are a hell of a lot cheaper as well as having the relevant equipment such as microscopes and rework stations needed for board level repair, they will probably have a much quicker turnaround time too. There's a guy near me who will do board level repair on a Nintendo Switch and make it economically viable, he's invested a lot in his setup so I imagine a bass amp PCB would be easy work for him.
  15. Same, both Superfly issues IIRC? Although I would buy Ashdown if I liked the sound of them, almost pulled the trigger on one of the heavily discounted OR110 that were floating around recently before realising I didn't really need it.
  16. The BH250 isn't something I'd pick if I was gigging with amps, I bought it because it was cheap (ended up at £90 used after I sold the accompanying pedal), tiny and feature packed! However one thing it does offer is the ability to get rid of things I don't like due to the smart eq which I don't think the BQ range has. Never been a fan of Ashdown stuff so when using their 4x10 cabs this is very handy for cleaning up the mud, a little bit of Spectracomp via the Toneprint goes a long way as well. I would probably want something with a bit more headroom if I was gigging with it but amps on stage is a thing of the past for me, I still eye up new heads from time to time even though I have no use for them!
  17. Although I don't use amps live any more I do still use them at rehearsals. I usually take a TC BH250 with me but also have the option of playing through numerous Ashdowns as that's what our main rehearsal space spec their rooms with. Got to say I use the TC over the Ashdown heads (through either one or two Ashdown 4x10 cabs) however I will use the old Hartke HA2500 they have knocking around in one of the rooms as that is still an amp I like the core sound of. Never felt I was missing out on anything by using small amps and I get the opportunity to use old school heads/cabs all the time without the burden of having to lug them around. I'd sooner have my old LMII and 2 x Club 121 stack over every rehearsal rig permeation I have access to now, that includes ABM and MAG heads and 4x10 cabs.
  18. Had this from G4M when ordering a rack bag at the end of last year, showed as in stock so clicked away, got an email a couple of days later telling me it would be delivered sometime in March. Actually ended up coming a bit earlier than that but still, not on really is it? If it wasn't the cheapest option by a decent amount I'd have cancelled on principle but being a tightwad always wins out I'm afraid.
  19. Seeing as it has a lot of wear and has already had a different bridge on I would just measure up where the intonation points need to be and stick a better one on, having only two saddles each housing a pair of strings isn't ideal anyway and those grub screws look painful. Allparts do a threaded saddle one so spacing shouldn't be an issue, would be in keeping with the aesthetic too: https://www.thomann.de/gb/allparts_vintage_style_bass_bridge.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwsJ6TBhAIEiwAfl4TWOJ8_5GQBbIalRTgjm9ootYTWyK1LqjzZkaFinu2QAwPB39lW9O7aRoCOyYQAvD_BwE Alternatively look on AliExpress or something for short scale/narrow spacing basses, there's tons of bridges on there and most should have a technical diagram. What spacing do you need?
  20. Another one here, claiming it's a MIJ prototype: https://reverb.com/ca/item/47785065-through-neck-bass-natural-original-mij-japan
  21. The neck is a "7 fly sandwich" apparently. Doesn't sound very appetising.
  22. Eventually went for £195 when relisted which is probably about right. Rather than putting two new drivers in it the seller would have been better off making it look presentable and selling it as an empty cab IMO.
  23. I think logging on to their eBay account and seeing a PCGC creation in their purchases might be the wakeup call a lot of crack addicts need tbh.
