An East MMSR 4 knob might be a nice drop in replacement, unfortunately that isn't one of their preamps that has an active/passive switch as an option. There's a Musicman 5 string pickup in the classifieds here for £60 btw
-
I stuck a SD Basslines in my IGB55 and while it was better it wasn't a great deal better, the MM pickups on those basses are absolutely fine on their own. The first port of call for tone improvement on those old Korean Samick builds will be to swap out the preamp for something more capable IMO.

Being able to completely block out Keidis' awful attempts as rapping and singing is a rare and special power you have there, use it wisely.
-
Top tune that. Don't really get the OHM comparisons with that new song though, sounded like generic modern RHCP to me with genuinely terrible vocals. Tried 3 times and not made it to the end of the song, just the standard of monotonous rubbish they churn out these days.

Looks great that, John Deacon on the cheap!

Why would you do this? (Barefaced content)

As a cab of unknown performance it might be worth a punt if someone is interested in tidying it up and rewiring it to 4ohms. Realistically what would a good condition Two 10 be selling for, around £550? A shabby example with tolex peeling all over the show and a knackered handle probably £100 less, then factor in whatever the cost would be to restore it to original spec means there probably isn't got a lot of wiggle room and you might as well just wait for a nicer one to appear. -
Any issues with the Evostik spray? One of the foam pieces on my Gramma isn't as secure as it was (13 years of gigging so fair dos) and I could do with sticking it back down before moving it on. Was a bit worried about regular glue or spray adhesive reacting with the foam.

Which models were they? When we got our old 725 cabs the previous owner told us they'd been sent back to have a revised power amp installed as the original ones had a known issue causing some of them to blow.
-
Had the same issue when I blew the Deltalite in my EA cab, original cost was around £70 and that had doubled by the time I needed the replacement!
-
eBay sold listings are your best bet for accurate market value, if there's a few take the median for a good starting point.
-
I also use Fishman Platinum Pro and a QSC, the K10.2. Great setup for acoustic basses and also any other basses you might have as well as acoustic guitars!
-
I actually did have some issues returning mine but that was down to the courier/drop off points rather than Thomann. In fact Thomann ended up arranging for it to be collected from my workplace so they were really good in that respect too.
-
That looks beautiful, love the massive expanse of bare fretboard.
-
I sent a bass back and they paid return shipping along with handling all the paperwork, that was for a faulty item rather than me just choosing to return it though. Their staff were really good with solid communications, can't fault 'em and wish all businesses were like that. They were using their 2nd/3rd language and still better than a lot of UK retailers.

Health and safety innit, bloody nanny state.

Upgrading pickups on sire v3 gen 1 bass.

Any J pickup with that voicing will get you there, if your SD is an Antiquity or SJB-1 then you're sorted. -
Hearing yourself on stage - small combo as foldback?
lemmywinks replied to sunfish's topic in Amps and Cabs
Had similar problems - keys player who doesn't know how to eq or fit in a mix coupled with being on top of my amp as I was stood behind him a lot of the time. For a while I used a pair of Markbass Club 121 cabs, on tight stages I would have the top one tilted up at me. After this I moved to a powered wedge which gave me more options regarding placement and I could have vocals through it as well. Eventually I just went full IEM and never thought of using backline live again. -
Before you buy anything try a few and make note of the string spacing at the bridge. Even a 1mm difference will be noticeable and this is one area which is more important when buying a 5 string. Also make sure the bass has a clear low B, a lot of budget 5ers sound like a danger fart gone wrong when you play the extra string. I would be looking at MTD, Sire, Yamaha and Cort/Ibanez. You're also well into used German Warwick terriroty there if you don't need to buy a new bass.

Yeah you can buy Roswell pickups separately, the guys at Thomann/Harley Benton stopped using Wilkinson pickups as there's a lot of fakes on the market and they couldn't guarantee the genuine article. Until I watched this I had no idea there were fake Wilkinson pickups! The Chyla guy always uses cost effective hardware, presumably to keep the final price down which is sensible IMO.

I've watched a few of his basses, they seem to go for the start bid when they sell and a lot of the time the auction ends with no bids. I quite like the look of the Warsaw 30" 5er strung with a high C he had up:
-
Getting 70s Columbus vibes from that, I wonder how many pieces of wood that £450 bass is made from?
-
The one I had was actually a little bit heavier than my IGB 55 (the passive version of the 68) which was seemingly made of air.
-
I gigged one of those for a bit, Samick built IGB 50 I think. Very lightweight and well built. Passive sound was a bit quiet with the stock pickups.

Harley Benton have the Progressive as previously mentioned as well as a violin bass for £166 and the fancy neck through for £255: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_fl_vs_vintage_series.htm https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbz_2005fl_nt_deluxe_series.htm Gear 4 Music have a cheap starter fretless with an unlined board too.
