I also use Fishman Platinum Pro and a QSC, the K10.2. Great setup for acoustic basses and also any other basses you might have as well as acoustic guitars!

I actually did have some issues returning mine but that was down to the courier/drop off points rather than Thomann. In fact Thomann ended up arranging for it to be collected from my workplace so they were really good in that respect too.

That looks beautiful, love the massive expanse of bare fretboard.

I sent a bass back and they paid return shipping along with handling all the paperwork, that was for a faulty item rather than me just choosing to return it though. Their staff were really good with solid communications, can't fault 'em and wish all businesses were like that. They were using their 2nd/3rd language and still better than a lot of UK retailers.

Health and safety innit, bloody nanny state.

Upgrading pickups on sire v3 gen 1 bass.

Any J pickup with that voicing will get you there, if your SD is an Antiquity or SJB-1 then you're sorted. -
Hearing yourself on stage - small combo as foldback?
lemmywinks replied to sunfish's topic in Amps and Cabs
Had similar problems - keys player who doesn't know how to eq or fit in a mix coupled with being on top of my amp as I was stood behind him a lot of the time. For a while I used a pair of Markbass Club 121 cabs, on tight stages I would have the top one tilted up at me. After this I moved to a powered wedge which gave me more options regarding placement and I could have vocals through it as well. Eventually I just went full IEM and never thought of using backline live again. -
Before you buy anything try a few and make note of the string spacing at the bridge. Even a 1mm difference will be noticeable and this is one area which is more important when buying a 5 string. Also make sure the bass has a clear low B, a lot of budget 5ers sound like a danger fart gone wrong when you play the extra string. I would be looking at MTD, Sire, Yamaha and Cort/Ibanez. You're also well into used German Warwick terriroty there if you don't need to buy a new bass.

Yeah you can buy Roswell pickups separately, the guys at Thomann/Harley Benton stopped using Wilkinson pickups as there's a lot of fakes on the market and they couldn't guarantee the genuine article. Until I watched this I had no idea there were fake Wilkinson pickups! The Chyla guy always uses cost effective hardware, presumably to keep the final price down which is sensible IMO.

I've watched a few of his basses, they seem to go for the start bid when they sell and a lot of the time the auction ends with no bids. I quite like the look of the Warsaw 30" 5er strung with a high C he had up:

Getting 70s Columbus vibes from that, I wonder how many pieces of wood that £450 bass is made from?
-
The one I had was actually a little bit heavier than my IGB 55 (the passive version of the 68) which was seemingly made of air.
-
I gigged one of those for a bit, Samick built IGB 50 I think. Very lightweight and well built. Passive sound was a bit quiet with the stock pickups.

Harley Benton have the Progressive as previously mentioned as well as a violin bass for £166 and the fancy neck through for £255: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_fl_vs_vintage_series.htm https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbz_2005fl_nt_deluxe_series.htm Gear 4 Music have a cheap starter fretless with an unlined board too.

The filters are just a way to easily get specific sounds that a lot of players are after - VLE for some old school treble rolloff and VLE for the scoop. That's all all they ever claimed to be hence their names, you know what's going to happen when you dial them in. Seeing as the OP is happy with the clean sound when used with DB but wants some grit with EB it seems the eq points and filters aren't the issue, just stick some drive in front of it.

There's a PJB Bass Buddy in the Marketplace for £100, total bargain and will drive a cab at low volume:

"Unbranded Headless Bass Guitar"
lemmywinks replied to Max Normal's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Hohner B2 and Jacks have been selling for £200-£250 recently and Steinberger Sprits for not much more. Someone overpaid big time for this. -
You have to transport the amp for it as well remember.

Budget options worth considering alongside the Behringer are the DemonFX A7K or D7K and Caline WIne Cellar or Press Pass pedals.

I soldered a couple of wires to a female 2.5mm jack so I could just plug the Artec piezo straight in. The bass I have it in isn't an acoustic, rather an Aria Sinsonido which I used with a basic adjustable gain preamp (built from an old Maplins kit) and also an Artec SE2 with the blend control removed so that may not be applicable here. The Sonicore in my new little Ibanez Parlour sounds great and well balanced though so maybe just reseating it will sort any issues. I have no idea why Fishman hardwire them though, they use a connector for the output jack but not one for the piezo.

Tbf that is a country mile better than anything MDP could produce and the rusty penknife headstock removal could be put right without too much trouble. Those Overlord headless bridge units are supposed to be a bit of a chocolate teapot aren't they? Think someone on here said the metal on them was akin to soft cheese. -
The Artec is the PP417 for the 4 string version: http://www.artecsound.com/acou/piezo.htm £11 delivered: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264525530658?epid=22011371650&hash=item3d96f34622:g:hDMAAOSwl8NVbbRd

Artec also make a bass specific piezo strip, I have one and it sounds fine. RE the Sonicore I found them very fiddly to fit, sometimes just reseating the bridge saddle will sort out balance issues, they also need the base of the saddle slot to be super flat.
