  1. I'm sure the future owner will be delighted when their sister-aunt buys them that bass for their birthday.
  2. I've already ordered one of the (presumably knockoff) Fishman Presys ones so I'll try that first, thanks for the offer though. Tbh I'm not sure how much of a knockoff they are - you find them in the Alien Deluxe (and listed on the Warwick site as a 90 Euro part) but then you find them on £200 Harley Bentons.
  3. Or just say nothing about it unless you are part of that community.
  4. Nobody was offended by Gaybar FFS!
  5. Seriously if you are so desperate to use that word just put asterisks in place of a few letters. Facebook will detect certain words and auto ban, that way they can look like they're doing something to combat the far right stuff that's rife on there without actually spending any money or hiring new staff. You can appeal it but there's little point.
  6. Think it was the early ones that had the scooped sections where the neck joins the body, mine had those. Wish I'd kept it tbh!
  7. It was mainly the conventional side mounted pre/eq units I was looking at, I'm assuming the Fishman Presys ones on eBay etc are all fake given the price but honestly they would probably be ok for this particular bass, something like this which was presviously used in Warwick Alien basses: https://www.teknologi.co.uk/product/fishman-presys-blend-301-acoustic-guitar-pickup/ It's for an old fretless Ozark I bought used 23 years ago, it has a ton of battle scars so is basically borderline worthless, I don't gig with it so the preamp is just for convenience. Having had a look at various manufacturers it seems that they all just use generic acoustic units so will probably just order one and see how it goes.
  8. Pretty much everything I'm looking at is designed to work with a piezo, some (Fishman Presys 3) also have a small onboard mic with a blend control. Artec don't seem to have a dedicated acoustic bass unit but they do show frequencies, bass looks to be usable at around 80-120hz. I have their preamps in electric basses and quite like them, also use their bass piezo strip in my travel bass.
  9. Looking to upgrade the guts on my long-suffering acoustic, currently has a passive volume/tone rolloff in there which is fine up to a point, would rather have something which buffers the signal and gives a bit more flexibility though. Been looking for a decent budget option (the bass itself is worth very little) but as you would expect there doesn't seem to be anything bass specific until you're looking at spending nearer £100, has anybody used normal guitar preamps in their acoustic bass? Seen some budget ones on eBay/AliExpress including a Fishman PreSys 2 & 3 (used on some Harley Bentons) and some no name units (EQ 7545 seems to be rebranded a fair bit), I know Ibanez use the AEQ2T in a lot of their acoustic basses. Ideally want something compact with the battery compartment in the same enclosure. Btw for anybody suggesting an external preamp I already have a Fishman Pro Platinum EQ and a QSC K10.2 so am already sorted in that regard, just looking for something that fits in the bass that gives me more options if I'm jamming somewhere and need to plug in for some reason.
  10. Same, most people of African heritage over here that I know would never use it as it isn't part of their culture at all. For African Americans it's totally different so it's for them to decide really, internal discussion has been happening for decades now.
  11. If it's not a slur when they use it to refer to each other (sometimes it's neutral, sometimes a term of endearment) then it isn't offensive. At the end of the day it's for those within that demographic to decide.
  12. When people of African ancestry use that term it is not an ethnic slur. Obviously it has different connotations if a white guy said it, no matter how it's spelt or pronounced there is a metric ton of historical reasons why it is inappropriate. Hopefully 2023 will be the year that the basschat dad brigade no longer need this explaining to them, I ain't counting on it but we can all live in hope.
  13. That bridge isn't for a bass guitar, it's for an electric uke or banjolin. Annoyingly there's tons of them if you're searching eBay or AliExpress for bass bridges.
  14. I get the banjo novelty thing but is there really a market for this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265392824605?hash=item3dcaa5211d:g:c0YAAOSwqJlhhWdD A £210 bass ukulele converted from a cheap child's guitar, you can already buy this sort of thing for less money as a stock instrument.
  15. That seller started off doing the bass uke conversion kits for kids' acoustics, looks like he's grafting headstocks onto other instruments now. Here's the back of the nut on this one:
  16. Harley Benton do a pretty cheap bass focused preamp/DI, loads of great features and only £72 but I think I remember someone on here saying it was too noisy: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_custom_line_bass_di_expander.htm If you need a decent preamp/DI then it's probably best to just grab a used Nux or Fishman, something like that. They're worth their weight in gold, there's a NUX in the Marketplace at the moment:
  17. I used to use a VC3, superb preamps that are going up in price each time I look.
  18. Doubt it would be the same size as the regular Gnome, the 280w i Pro is larger than than the 200w model and that doesn't quite manage to be a true nano head for me. Would be nice if they could pull that off though.
  19. That looks poor IMO, really rough printing and the Future Compact projects in standard metal project boxes look much better. Also they've relocated the footswitches to the side which means you'll need to use MIDI switching live.
  20. Ibanez used to do some small fretless acoustic basses, sub 30" scale and reasonably priced.
  21. One on FB not too far from you, bit rough for £150 though. Could make an offer then flip the hard case to make it nearer a ton: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/953066981945630/?ref=search&referral_code=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A3f7e3325-7518-4b30-9525-c8be098347ba
  22. You've just described every Level 42 album.
  23. There's something cool about those old 80s Arias, definitely of their time. I was given a load of old guitar mags when a music shop closed down and there was loads of cheesy adverts with badly dressed pseudo metal players holding Aria Cats and Night Warriors. EDIT: Like these dudes!
  24. Should have used the neck from one of these:
  25. Is it the IGB 68/5 that was on eBay? I was casually watching that, had been relisted a few times so was hoping the seller would drop the price! They're decent basses, my local music shop had one in back in the day for around £450 and I had the passive 4 string version (IGB 55) a few years ago.
