  1. Because it's spectacularly boring to churn out the same old shapes over and over again with no innovations or good visual design choices.
  2. I'm sure they're competitive in terms of sound and build quality with numerous other Fender clones in their price range, that wasn't the point at all. I appreciate that Ashdown aren't the best when it comes to visual design and tend to rely on gaudy motifs but surely they could come up with something better than that?
  3. Going off his feedback he's sold one already, offer accepted on the BIN price of £650. Has a website and everything, seems to have sold another on there with a £950 asking price: http://cricketbatguitar.com One born every minute, or in this case two.
  4. In the right hands that could sound very good, granted it would have to be in a piece of music which suits its inherent tone. Obviously in that video it definitely does not sound good!
  5. Used one of these with my old Markbass rig, made it incredibly versatile and great for stages with limited space essentially giving me 3 different configurations of amp. Stored away nicely hanging over the front of the cab with the cover over the top too so you don't have to carry it separately. IIRC they are sold on eBay in case you don't have an IKEA close by.
  6. Expected them to be yellow with black wrappings, disappointed tbh.
  7. Did they throw the three of you out of the shop?
  8. You haven't spent a night in Langney recently have you?
  9. Unless those tuners are worth something? Look like cheap shiny repro ones to me though, a certain connoisseur of vintage basses from faraway lands might know. I actually have a tele style 2 saddle bridge from an old Kay in my parts box but just checked and it's standard Fender spacing. You're welcome to it if you want, it's horrible though.
  10. Yeah it's weird seeing as these are a different design to the old MkI but the first thing I thought when I pressed play on the demo was "hey that sounds like my old Cort B5!". No information on what the preamp bass/treble frequencies are either. More to the point though - what are in house pickups doing on a £1.1k bass?
  11. Crikey, that certainly is something. Not sure what but it is something.
  12. +1 on Corts, I still use an old Korean Cort C5P I picked up for £90 as a backup bass which has seen off more expensive 5 strings. you can also bag a GB54JJ for around £300. A used GB74 should be around that price too.
  13. If weight is an issue (a heavy bass isn't always great for your back if you have existing problems) then that needs to be a consideration too. No reason not to start on a standard scale btw, same with 5 strings and capable amps. Buy what you want without getting into the mindset that you have to get starter kit which will likely be upgraded later anyway. Bass is really easy to pick up and get into, an extra string tuned to the same intervals as the rest isn't complex at all and most adults are well suited to standard scale length.
  14. Depends on your budget and what sort of music you want to be playing really. If it's circa £150 then the Harley Benton basses are well regarded as are used Squiers, Vintage etc. When you move into the £300-£400 price bracket then you're looking at Sire V3 (or a used V7), some of the better Squiers (CV, VM etc), Ibanez, Cort, Yamaha BB, Musicman Sub Ray, Spector Performer etc. Unfortunately you're limited regarding trying basses out at the moment so it all depends on what players or recorded bass sounds you like and what you want to sound like. If you need lower notes then by all means start on a 5 string, keep in mind budget 5 string basses aren't all that great a lot of the time as the B string can sound a bit wet, Cort built basses (Cort, Ibanez among others) and Sires have good low B strings, Yamaha also.
  15. To be fair it would make a great joke present for a Doors fan. Perhaps that's why this is the last one left with 41 sold?
  16. Just thinking what else you can get for the money and that £2k on a passive bolt on Precision clone isn't where my money would go, especially one built by someone not known for making basses. If you want to spend that amount on one then go ahead!
  17. Looks nice enough but for just under £2k (it's sold now) you're in Shuker territory.
  18. That bass looks great, a free gigbag is a bonus too! Is it the Sire one?
  19. Works for me when I use my cr@ppy clip on tuner.
  20. Something like this will be fine - Klotz cable, Neutrik jacks, 3m long and £12.89 delivered: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Klotz-Cable-Guitar-Lead-Neutrik-1-4-Straight-to-Right-Angle-Jack-Plugs-AC106/251907868797?hash=item3aa6e1087d:m:mYdK6M07ONLzFNgWUbOCTIA
  21. Yeah I think he retired a while a ago. I have a few OBBM speaker and instrument cables which are still as new years (and plenty of gigs) down the line.
  22. Also if it didn't come with a gigbag check out the TGI Extreme ones for about £40, seem to be the best affordable gigbag around at the moment.
