Compact/portable amp head recommendations
lemmywinks replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Amps and Cabs
Spotted the TC Bam200 for £106 on Muziker this morning, doesn't get much smaller or cheaper than that: https://www.muziker.co.uk/tc-electronic-bam200?gclid=Cj0KCQiA48j9BRC-ARIsAMQu3WQ-1LfyfJB4NNfFWL8oriB2RzLyqhFsDYc95W9GvY4lQGNSKXtnRJgaAtpmEALw_wcB Also worth looking for a used BH250 if you need compression or drive, can be had for around £100. -
Just spotted it on FB, seller admits it's a copy here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/664034974500426/

Ashdown were repairing Superfly heads for free as recently as 2017 after years of bad press, worth giving them a shout.

Trace Elliot ELF or 300W GP7SM head, which should I get?
lemmywinks replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Amps and Cabs
Those old Traces are rack mountable aren't they? Would be easier to transport in a 2u rack bag, especially if it's currently in a a wooden case. -
The Andy Baxter bass is still up on Reverb, maybe they have marked it sold on their site due to lockdown? Incidentally Reverb list selling estimates for a '58 between £6.5k and £11.5k so the eBay bass is at the lower end of the scale. Tbh if I came into possession of that bass then I'd be looking to milk the ridiculous vintage Fender market for as much as possible too, no point giving a couple of grand away for no reason.
-
Seems quite an honest description to me, can't really fault the seller for listing everything that might put buyers off. It's a 60yr old working instrument at the end of the day and has had some work done to keep it going, could do with more pictures but I assume anybody spending £7k on a bass is going to be checking it out first.

Because the logo is stylised and probably meant to be flipped and read the same as normal (an ambigram as previously described) it could be IM, IML, WI, WL, INI or INL depending on how you interpret it. Not that it make any difference here of course! Any frontal shots?

Can only find IML as Instruments de Musique de Lyon, a French importer of Japanese guitars associated with the Eagle branding so seems like they would use that rather than IML. http://vintagestagg.altervista.org/907/index.html Looks like they did a P Bass copy but no other pictures, probably not linked.

Trace Elliott ELF vs TC Electronic BAM200 opinions?
lemmywinks replied to Dennis1971's topic in Amps and Cabs
I used one of those Ikea stands with a Markbass LMII tilted back about 45 degrees on a Club 121 cab so it shouldn't be a problem. They're 42cm wide though so you may need to trim it for a 1x10. EDIT the Ikea tray is 42cm(W) x 31cm(D) and the Trace 110 is apparently 31cm(W) x 36cm(D) so you would have to trim the width. -
Always loved the sound Adrian Maruszczyk gets here from the Svoboda fretless, some lovely playing too:

IMO acoustic basses are sold with two things that really prevent them from being at their best - bronze strings and frets!
-
This, I switched to black nylons ages ago (an old set I had lying around, not even sure on the brand) and it turned a clanky bass with overbearing string noise into a great sounding instrument that offered something a bit different. The smooth sound it has now suits the music I want to play on it far more than the bronze nasties. I love my acoustic bass, bought it 21 years ago and it's been everywhere with me with plenty of battle scars to show for it. Dunno why they get so much hate really, if you want to play in an acoustic group then they are definitely worth looking into. Personally I've always found mine really useful,

One on eBay for £155 delivered, regular plus not DLX version though: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cort-Action-Bass-V-Plus-electric-bass-guitar-5-string-active-black-used-VGC/164223774061?hash=item263c7fed6d:g:rC4AAOSwT1Re0QOV

Yeah, it was around the time they started recording in Dobly.
-
They did reject her idea to wear stage costumes corresponding to the signs of the zodiac though so at least give them some credit.

Meddle is my favourite PF album whereas Live in Pompeii is my favourite thing they have produced and I'd rather listen to those versions than their album counterparts. I think with PF going through several different style shifts you can pick which era you like best based on personal taste, personally I always found The Wall too dry and predictable and lost interest. I also liked Obscured by Clouds, still have that (and A Saucerful of Secrets) on cassette somewhere.
-
It's hard to go wrong these days if you have £200+ to spend, even at the extreme budget end you can still choose from a selection of Harley Bentons for £80-£110. A pal of mine has just decided to get back into bass and has gone with the Sire V7 and a Zoom B1Four.

He doesn't want to be accepted back, PF are a done deal and aren't an operational band. In fact since Waters left they have been a facsimile of themselves IMO. I suspect that all he wants is for his current work (playing PF songs which he wrote) to be integrated into the website as it's something fans might want to see during lockdown when they are starved of live music. I can't listen to him now (never liked his voice and it's awful these days) but it's obvious a considerable amount of work and effort went into recording that version of Mother and which isn't allowed on the PF website for reasons other than the original intention of the video. Roger has been a petty @rse over the years and at times outright cruel but I think in this instance it isn't him being unreasonable. They're a legacy band FFS, just stick the video on there as fans will probably want to see it. I think a lot of fans who like to take sides tend to forget that without Roger and his drive for consistently excellent output DSotM wouldn't have been anything like the landmark album we have now and the band may well have folded after WYWH, if not before. A big part of what made PF the band they were was Roger's attitude and outlook - despite court victories, expensive session musicians and hired songwriters the post Waters albums bear this out.

Ah but then you do the bass up, turn a small profit and buy another!
-
The need for a spare bass is also a great excuse to snag yourself an eBay/FB bargain beater bass, surprised this hasn't already been mentioned.
-
Always take a spare, had to use one twice, if you're getting paid you should definitely take one just to quickly pull you out of a hole if needed. Currently have an old Cort C5P I got off Facebook for £90 as my spare. Sounds great, weight very little and is cheap enough to live in the van. Also have a Behringer BDDI, a set of pre-used srings and a cable in the same gigbag so all my gigging stuff and spares are catered for in one carry.

This has been cluttering up my local bass searches for a while, the seller sometimes has some decent kit for sale but he's dreaming with this one. Having a look at his other items yields some interesting results: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MENS-TIGHT-RUBBER-LATEX-SHORTS-WITH-DUAL-ZIP-OPENING/254595103952?hash=item3b470cfcd0:g:IRQAAOSwN~deVnsV

I haven't got any experience of the newer C series, I do have an ancient C5P but that was from the MiK Cort days. It is super light though. That one you mentioned has the same Markbass preamp with Bart MkI pickups as the B series, mahogany body instead of ash though so weight might be a bit more. They are super compact basses with short headstocks so even one that isn't as light as the ash bodied basses won't feel heavy or ungainly. Price difference is only £80 or so between that and the B series though.
-
I had a Cort B5 Ash that was between 6 and 7 lbs, stupidly light and felt like nothing on a strap. Get a newer one that doesn't have the Bart MkI preamp though.

You can buy cheap adjustable nuts for about £3 on AliExpress if you don't fancy throwing £20 at a Warwick one.
