  1. There's nothing wrong with that. Lots of artists crowdfund albums, Marillion were doing this before crowdfunding was even a thing and it's not just old rock acts either - De La Soul did it (the custom thumb drives were great!). I really like the idea as it is an artist interacting with their fan base and involving them with the process, it's removing the leeches from the industry and ensuring we get to enjoy music we would never have otherwise had the opportunity to listen to. In fact I prefer it to the traditional method of bands being signed to a label and paid a relatively tiny wage from their own earnings. That isn't anything like "buy me an expensive bass because I want one", not even in the same universe. Although as I said before if anybody wants to buy me an expensive bass I'm cool with it.
  2. It's not about needs, it's about wants and what they consider to be their duty in upholding the 2nd ammendment/being a patriot/resisting an opressive government/protecting muh freedumz or whatever paranoia based propaganda is doing the rounds this week. They have had the gun fetishism drilled into them from an early age, it's radically different from owning objects which serve a purpose like a kitchen knife or a car.
  3. Also this, they're tiny little peepee men.
  4. America has a dangerously warped view of firearms, it's painful listening to gun nuts evangelise weapons like they are living in some wild west power fantasy where people need to be armed to blast the bad guys. At this stage I don't think stricter gun control would even work over there, they basically need several generations of deprogramming. Interestingly you can legally own the American mass shooters' weapon of choice over here - the AR15 - in 22LR cal, just that nobody really wants one aside from a few enthusiasts and we don't have the irresponsible culture where being seen walking around with a military style firearm is in some way inherently masculine. I held a shotgun license in my youth and used to go shooting with my dad, guns were never something you'd show off or glamorise. In fact it would be seen as childish to do so which is exactly the reaction I have when watching videos like the one above or of the 2nd amendment protesters.
  5. Having said that I also like expensive basses and if there's any free ones going I'm down, Marleaux Consat for me if possible. Cheers.
  6. Time to put your big boy pants on and stroll over to the Job Centre maybe?
  7. I can always remember using a practice room which had a huge but knackered old Trace rig (4x10 and 1x15 which both farted out at low volume), I used to turn up with my mini 1x10 rig and have to shift this behemoth into a different room completely defeating the object of me having lightweight gear in the first place. Incidentally the room we use now has an old TE head plugged into two TC cabs which is a perfectly manageable big rig.
  8. JFC these aren't priceless antiques - they are old, outdated low value amps that some people still like the sound of which can be found everywhere. Stick it in a rack and gig it if you want! The value thing is nonsense as well, the heads go for the same or more than the combos because nobody wants heavy inefficient cabs any more.
  9. There aren't many options for 25" scale electric basses with reduced bodies, this one has a Fender pickup and Wilkinson Ultralite copies which are £30 a set. If you really needed a bass for a young child then it's either this or one of the electric uke basses on AliExpress, out of the two this is probably the better option.
  10. I got the slightly longer one for my daughter, IIRC I paid about £60 or something. The 25" scale ones are more desirable though, might as well just get them a cheap uke bass for that money though.
  11. It isn't pointless at all, he could just rack the head leaving it entirely reversible. It's just old music gear, if you like the sound of it and want to gig it then knock yourself out. It's there to be played.
  12. This is what I do 95% of the time and all my learning is done this way with a USB mini desk plugged into my laptop. OP this is what I use: https://www.thomann.de/gb/soundcraft_notepad_5.htm https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32859161944.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dJuyhv6
  13. You'll get a million different recommendations based on what here people own, probably better stating your budget, what sort of sound you want and how much space you want it to take up. Also do you need things like built in effects, a tuner, aux in for playing along to mp3s etc? All these things are handy for practicing and make life easier, everything in one device with less cables etc. I use a small 1x10 cab with a micro head for ampilified home playing which is handy as I can take the head to rehearsal rooms and use their cabs.
  14. Just make a sleeve for it and leave the combo intact? Could even just rack it.
  15. Used one for years as a DI, boost and drive. Liked combining the drive with other pedals as you can retain a lot of your clean signal with it and end up with some really beefy but still cutting sounds. Was immense when paired with a Mastotron - massive dirty low end with that edge the M80 does so well. Sold it as I just play clean now and wanted a more versatile pre with a tuner.
  16. "I had a transposition pedal hooked up for the bass synth that I could literally hit my low E string and drop it almost three octaves. We were getting down in the area of 6Hz at probably about 130dB. The first time we actually tested it we all threw up and cracked a wall in the warehouse. It was fantastic."

The QC on the new Epiphones is pretty patchy apparently, some pretty bad fretwork and finish issues going off independent reviews.
  18. Should probably pop a working bridge in the post for the OP though which is what I meant.
  19. Rather than fannying about with blowtorches (please don't dop this), squirting it with WD40 (or this) or soaking in a rust removing solution (the actual correct way to do it) why not just send it back to the guy that sold it and get a replacement that works properly? Paying extra to have a bass with knackered parts is nuts, surely you can have the played with sandpaper gloves look while still getting a functional instrument?
  20. Some great (and unexpectedly complex) bass lines in ABBA songs, have fun. I just use a bog standard J bass sound, had far more fun learning/playing ABBA than I thought I would!
  21. My Basslite 2010 has spade connectors, did I get stung? I only paid £24 delivered for it... To the OP: I have that driver in a single compact 1x10 (an EA CXL110) and while it does sound great I wouldn't want to gig with a pair of them, the Deltalite I had in there before was a different story and I've rehearsed with a drummer using just that single cab and a Superfly head. If your shoulders are knackered then I'd personally just get rid of your current cabs and buy Barefaced or something similarly light.
  22. Says it goes down to 47hz. Doesn't look like it tilts upwards much though:
  23. Indeed. The standard LP has been changed to a short neck tenon and back on a regular basis and you can only get the longer "correct" classic era style one if you pay more for a Custom Shop etc. That's something that does affect structural integrity and tone which they changed for the worse to cut costs so they aren't exactly faithful to the original designs. You can get that original feature on a £500 Epi and a £400 Cort but not your £2k Gibson.
