I have one of these, I've modded it over the years and the body is the only original part though as I never liked the pickups or preamp. Not a fan of gold hardware either so I went all black but that veneer is beautiful.

NCD - Ashdown Mibass 10, £20 from Money Traders

Just looked inside, the ports go right to the back then upwards towards the middle of the cabinet in an L shape so I'll give the internal cab volume two separate sets of dimensions, one for above where the port ends and one below. I'll do the same for the port, I also measured each side of the port divider and added the lengths together so that's accounted for. I hope this makes sense! This is what it looks like from the front: And this is what it looke like looking down the port from the inside: There's also a curved handle cutout which I'll give the straight dimensions for, the actual amount of space the handle takes up would be between 1/2 and 3/4 of this. Upper cab (l x w x h) 262mm x 304mm x 133mm Lower cab (l x w x h) 262mmm x 240mm x 152m Horizontal port x 2 (l x w x h) 280mm x 296mm x 25mm Vertical port x 2 (l x w x h) 280mm x 49mm x 191mm Handle (l x w x h) 132mm x 39mm x 39mm -

Nice one I'll have a look when I get chance, hopefully tomorrow. -
The clue is in the name - "double bass". Can only have them in multiples of two.

Also using the BC standard cheapskate starter pack of KZ ZS10 and Behringer P2, although if I was buying it now I'd get the AliExpress P2 copy for £12. The Behringer itself is a clone of a Fischer In Ear Stick. Do a full IEM rehearsal before gigging. Get a few different tips for the KZs to see what fits you best as this makes the experience much better for pocket change, I'm currently using the memory foam ones from AliExpress which come in a pack of 3 different sizes. Have spares in case you lose them or they deteriorate, the memory foam tips don't last forever but I preferred them to the stock tips and also the Spinfit ones, much better fit and seal. The most important thing for me when starting out was having full control over my mix within easy reach, making the jump is much easier if you are confident making appropriate changes in a few seconds during sound check. With our old Mackie desk this meant an iPad but now we're on the XR18 I can use a Surface Go running the full X-Air Edit. I have this on a tablet holder attached to my bass stand so I can just lean over and pull a (virtual) fader down. I also use a little clip on shelf which again attaches to my bass stand, not having an amp to put stuff on means you may need somewhere to store your new gig junk such as your belt pack, IEMS, batteries and spare tips etc. This is the kit I use, looks like the official KZ store no longer carries the old ZS10s, just the Pro model. Don't know if they are different so haven't linked to them: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007937614288.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005830541489.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007463049286.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008077698289.html Getting this sort of monitoring quality and convenience for such a small outlay is pretty incredible.

These were the ME10 I was looking at btw @Phil Starr, the magnets looked similar to my other bass drivers but that's as far as my speaker knowledge goes. The serial number is 67-97320161 so I assumed the 97 part would be the year of manufacture: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335761107672 -

Yeah it did look old old. I'll see what my mate says about the Celestion Pulse, there's one on eBay he can stick a cheeky offer on. I did try the cab again this afternoon loaded with the BN10-300S, moved it into the back room and got a bit more distance between it and myself. It took a 100hz boost from the amp surprisingly well at volume, much better than when I briefly tested it the other day. If my mate doesn't want to chuck money at it I'll either sell it as it is or keep hold of it. -

Spotted an Eminence ME10-1008, anybody know about these? Internet seems to suggest they're an older or OEM Beta or Delta, can't find much about them. -

Thanks. I'll pass the infomation on to my mate at the weekend who is most likely going to end up with this cab as I have no real use for it, see how much he wants to put into it. If he's not interested and I can't find a cheap used driver I'll stick it in the Marketplace for what I paid. -

Thanks, I'll have a chat with my mate at the weekend to see how much he wants to put into it and go from there. Realistically I'll most likely be holding onto it for a while to see if a well priced used driver comes up for sale and if there's no joy I'll just stick it in the classifieds for what I paid for it. Are knackered drivers of use to anybody btw? I have the shredded Kappa from this cab and also a dead Deltalite 10" sat in storage here that will be landfill bound soon. -
Ah if you're in no rush then I'd wait for a bargain!

You'll be taking a gamble on a knockoff neck and after all is said and done the bass will be a less valuable bitsa if that's the sort of thing that bothers you. If you really like the bass and just want to get it playing again then either swap with a like for like CV neck, go for a Mighty Mite, Allparts, MIM Fender etc neck or as said above see if someone can fix it for you. Unfortunately there's no real cheap option that doesn't have potential drawbacks.

Just spotted one on Bass Players Market UK if you're looking to replace it or swap necks:

Well it's temporarily up and running, I have a spare 4ohm Celestion BN10 300S neodimium driver knocking around that I bought ages ago and never found a permanent use for so I stuck that in there. Not heard back from Ashdown yet but they did previously recommend the Eminence Beta as a replacement for these so I'll hunt down a used one in time then give this cab to my mate. Tbh I mainly took the old driver out so it was easier to shift from room to room! The BN10 300S sounds as good in this cab as it has in anything else I've used it in, which is to say it's acceptable and doesn't like much low end. Crazy mid response though. -
I took the piezo bridge out of that bass so it isn't being used, dunno how much they go for. Just done battle with my parts box and can't find it, have a feeling I took it into work as I was going to put it up for sale along with the piezo bridge so will check tomorrow and get the model number. I think it's this one so may not be suitable for your needs: https://bartolini.net/product/mpb2/

I have a dual channel Bartolini buffer preamp knocking around somewhere, I used it in my old fretless to buffer the piezo bridge with the mag pickups. Will dig it out tonight if you're interested?

Just had a look and a recone kit is £85, I'm not able to do the work myself so it probably wouldn't be workable for a £133 driver. These were cheap cabs to begin with (I think my mate paid £110 for his used) so ideally something under £50 would be suitable, I'll wait and see what Ashdown say, hopefully a used Beta or something like that will be ok. -

Won't be a Kappa if I do keep hold of it and find a replacement driver, they're pretty expensive here. No idea if they work in that box anyway. There's a used Pulse 10 on eBay at the moment, I sent Ashdown another email asking for T/S parameters of the original driver and/or the cab volume and port dimensions so maybe there's a cost effective replacement available, driver prices seem to have gone crazy in the last few years. -

The Kappa is goosed, check those pictures above out! Pretty much all of the paper cone is torn and it's covered in miscellaneous goop. I'm guessing the original owner blew the stock driver, found a knackered random 10" driver on eBay, covered it in glue for a genius fix and was surprised his masterplan didn't work. -

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I don't really need it but I have a mate who has one (8ohm version) with a Gnome head and it would be nice to get it working so he can have a mini stack of doom. I actually contacted Ashdown about compatible 8ohm drivers a while ago when I first saw it at £40, they said the following: "The Mi 10 had a twin cone speaker no longer available buut it can be replaced by a dood single cone 10” such as a pulse 10 etc " -

The driver is an Eminence Kappa Pro 10-A, I take it this is a replacement? Anybody got an idea of a compatible driver for this cab? -

Just tested it. It does not work. Sounds like a million wasps after curry night. -
Just nipped out to get some gecko food and passed a Money Traders, had a look in as last time they had this cab advertised at £40 but I left it as it was 4ohms so not much use to me (or my mate who already has one 8ohm version). Anyway I spotted it in a corner with a £19.99 price tag so bought it, can't leave it there for that price! Not even sure if it works yet
